Recently I got back into one of my all-time favourite hobbies ; reading. I always read as a child ; I was never seen without a book , and it is something that I still love several years on. I don't have a particular favourite author ; I like a few ; Paige Toon , Katie Price (if you can call her an author?!) and Sophie Kinsella to name a few. My favourite genre is the 'chick lit' catergory , and I also love reading celebrity autobiographies. The book I am going to review today is called Shopaholic and Sister and is part of the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. First of all , let me tell you ... more

    Advantages Advantages Characterisation, entertaining plot

Disadvantages Disadvantages Becky and Luke sometimes irritating

Although I love Sophie Kinsella, I don't think the Shopaholic series as a whole is her best work. This is mainly because I find the character of Becky Bloomwood (Brandon, by this book) slightly irritating, though likeable. You can guess what the series is about from the title. Becky Bloomwood is a financial journalist who also has something of an addiction to shopping. Bit of a contradiction, you could say. In fact, in Shopaholic and Sister Becky is married to Luke Brandon, and is no longer working as a financial journalist. She discovers that she has a long-lost half sister- the result of a ... more

Advantages Advantages More emotion, new character

Disadvantages Disadvantages not everyones cup of tea

Shopaholic and Sister is a Modern Fiction (Chic Lit) book written by Author Sophie Kinsella - who has also written other books using the name Madeline Wickham. Kinsella is probably better known for her Shopaholic Series of books; one of which was made into a film over a year ago, the film named Confessions of a Shopaholic. In all there are 5 books in the Shopaholic Series the first of them being Confessions of a Shopaholic which was also known as Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic. Having already reviewed the previous Shopaholic books in the series I thought I had best continue with the theme ... more

Advantages Advantages Extremely Entertaining and Gripping

Disadvantages Disadvantages Just a tad less fluffy than the others

My Fav Book in the Series! Shopaholic and Sister is actually my favourite book in the series- and one that I must have read about fifty times so far. Thing is, it presents a delightful blend of fluffiness, shallowness, albeit some more profound thematic features- especially in comparison with the previous books. Those who have been reading the books in order will be quite acquainted with Becky by now and I have to say that the construction of this character was quite nicely done indeed: Becky is definitely the sort of character that automatically draws you to her, and you care about her quite ... more

Advantages Advantages The next installment of the shopoholic range.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

I have finally finished the fourth instalment of the “shopoholic” series of books from Sophie Kinsellas, and have found that this is one of the funniest books so far. The book I will now review is “Shopoholic and sister”. The book starts with Becky and her now husband of 8 months Luke surrounded with beauty and tropical settings and 8 months into her travelling honeymoon. Married life is bliss and her honeymoon has been incredible but both are getting a little too ready to get back to normality, so when they finally get home Becky is gob smacked to see how much everyone else has moved on with ... more

    Advantages Advantages Funny

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some parts resolved a little quickly

This book is the next in the series of Shopaholic and Sister (after Shopaholic Gets Hitched). The beginning of the book sees Luke and Becky finishing their round the world honeymoon. They have been away for 10 months and judging by the things that Becky has bought on honeymoon, you realise that marriage hasn't stopped her spending habits. When she returns from honeymoon (in time for best friend Suze's twins' Christening), she feels she has lost Suze a bit as Suze seem to have a new best friends. During this book, Becky finds out she has a sister and she is so excited about all the girly things ... more

    Advantages Advantages readable

Disadvantages Disadvantages not the best in the Shopaholic series

This book continues the story of Becky Bloomwood in the Shopaholic series. Becky is now married to Luke Brandon, so will she have calmed down her spending - in a word, No. This book gets to the story quite quickly. Becky knows that her parents are acting funny and keeping something from her, but she isn't prepared for the secret that the know. Becky has a half sister. This is from before her mum and dad got together and is her dad's daughter. Becky is happy at this prospect. Although being an only child was good, she now has a real life sister to share things with. In Becky's mind things will ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic Read, Could Not Put It Down!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Gripping Story, You Will Forget Everything Else Around You

Rebecca Bloomwood is back and this time she has a sister (Jess). The only thing is Rebecca and Jess are like chalk and cheese. I thought this book was well written and easy to read (which is what I like in a book). Sophie Kinsella's writing was fantastic and I would have to say I thought this is the best book by far. At first I was a bit unsure how Kinsella was going to write in a sister, but the introduction to Jess was written very well. When Rebecca finds out she has a sister she thinks they will have the same interests….shopping! Rebecca plans shopping trips, having girly chat over ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Shopaholic and Sister - Sophie Kinsella by homework5 07/08/2008
Another great book in this series. Becky is up to her usual antics and although the book starts with her blissful honeymoon, it's not long before her life is upside-down again and spiralling out of control. She loses a best friend and loses her dignity and has to manage on a budget. There is an unexpected sister, tears, tantrums and danger . All the ingredients for a good story. I took this book on holiday and it was a great read on the beach.
