...about the purchase of my siemens A55 mobile phone. But at the cheapest on the market (correct 29.03.04) at £49.99 I thought it was a bit of a bargain!
~~~Aesthetics~~~
Lets forget about the unimportant packaging and go straight on to the little red phone inside the box. When I first saw it in O2, I must admit it was the price my eyes were drawn too but on closer inspection the phone seemed pretty small and smooth i.e. no abrasive edges so comfortable ... ...tiny handbag for a night out. The exact measurements are 103 x 46 x 21.5 mm which is about 4 x 2" .
The phone comes in two colours red and blue with stoney grey sides. You can get exchangeable covers but I havent been able to find any since I bought the phone! All there seems to be are Nokia covers on the market... this can be a bit annoying but the bright red of my phone looks good so Im happy to keep it.
As for the buttons, they are fairly small ...
...Nokia, so I chose the Siemens A55 and boy it was worth it.
To start the A55 looks similar to the A50 with the exception of a new type of connector in the 55 series, it supports 16 polyphonic ringtones and has a handsfree speaker system built in to the phone.
The A55 is really simple to use all the phones navigation is done via three buttons just below the screen, the middle one for up, down and the phone book and the outer buttons for selecting ... ...not to big and not to small (45mm x 100mm) and weighs a mere 84g.
The screen on the A55 has a good resolution of 101 x 64 pixels and hold 4 lines of text with up to 16 characters per line, and an orange or blue back-light depending on the phone colour.
The sound quality is very good and the speaker on the A55 is quite loud on full volume, but when you have the built in handsfree speaker phone turned on it does get a bit crackly, but it is extremely ...
The Siemen’s A55...
I first got this phone on a contract through Orange. I was a little gutted really because I wanted the Nokia 3510 but they wouldn’t allow me to have it for some reason. However, when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised to say the least! It is a small, light phone – like most mobiles nowadays. It is simple and very easy to navigate your way around the menus. I found it extremly simple being an avid Nokia lover – so I’m sure ... ...it too.
This model has changeable face and back panels called "ClipIt", you can easily change your phones look by using them. Sometimes the phone squeaks when you are holding it due to the panels, but it could be because I am a little heave handed.
I did manage to drop mine – at a drunken party – and the cover went everywhere…it protected my phone though and didn’t scratch anything.
They keyboard is convenient by the arrangement and also by the ...
...end I settled on the Siemens A55.
It's quite an old phone, which explains how I got it for £30 in Dixons. You can pick it up for about £20 these days, but to be honest there aren't many left. However, it does everything one would want it to. A quick list of features should give you a good idea:
~Sends/receives text messages, has T9 dictionary, preset messages and so on.
~Records received/missed/dialled calls
~Alarm Clock
~Surf & fun - this includes ... ...a bit baffled that the Siemens uses the '1' button for a space rather than the '0' button, but you soon get used to it. There is also the option of buying different coloured fascias, for those who get a high doing that sort of thing.
My personal mobile is with O2, but with the T Mobile Siemens I've actually got better recpetion 98% of the time. Battery life is good for the most part, with me usually only needing to charge it every week. However, ...
...local orange shop. The Siemens A55 was on offer there for £39.99 - a bargain I am sure you will agree but thats not all. There are currently doing a deal where they give you £10.00 free air time credit and they give this to existing Orange customers to thank you for staying loyal to them and also to new orange customers to thank you for joining with them. This then in theory put the price the phone down to £29.99 as I would have needed to get credit ... ...I simply inserted my SIM and I was ready to go. The phone is really easy to use and is incredibly light weight. It measures aout 3 inches by 1 inch and is lighter than my old nokia and i didn't think they got much lighter than that. It has all the usual features that you would expect, Text Messaging, Conferece Calls, WAP, Games, Alarm Clock, Games, Currency Convertor, Hundreds of Ring tones and text tones, Predictive text, Text delivery reports, ...
Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: Buttons are a bit fiddly
I actually got this phone free through an offer with Avon, but normally it costs £39.99 on Orange (which is the network that I got it from) and is the same on most networks (though I think that it might be cheaper on T mobile) (as of may 2004). I was in desperate need of a phone as my last one had broken, and, not being very technically minded, was relieved to find out how easy this phone was to use. The menus are fairly self explanatory.
Now for ... ...and silver (because it is on Orange, but generally the phone is blue). I haven't yet been able to find changeable covers in the shops, but there is quite a wide selection on ebay. The screen isn't in colour. The phone is about 13cm long, 6cm wide and 2cm deep. It is quite lightweight and the screen is a reasonable size compared to the phone, about 4cm by 2cm. The battery charged quite quickly (about an hour and a half), and, three days later, I haven't ...
I was always a rather big Nokia phone, but everyone i seemed to have was cursed and all my nokia's i have ever had had drowned. So when my 8310 packed in, my dad gave me an MT50 which lasted ages, but then my brother now has that one and i've now got the A55 which my mother received free from an avon promotion. I just thought it would be cheap phone that didnt last long than 5 minutes, but here i am after 6 months and still no problems.
The only problem is that the buttons makes this horrible clinky noise that drives my parents and myself insane. the plastic buttons fit in a certain way to the front of the phone so you cant help the clicking. My MT50 had rubber buttons, so you got no sound for them what so ever.
So ok many people might look at this phone and think, well its got no camera no special features, whats so good about! well for starters it ...
...You can register at the Siemens site www.my-siemens.com and they credit you automatically with £2.00 on which you can use to download ringtones and logos etc.
The Siemens A55 also has interchangable covers, CLIPit covers, at the moment they can be very hard to come by. I know that Carphone Warehouse doesn't stock them, but Ebay does and has hundreds at low prices from as little as £3.99.
I've found this phone has lots of character. The ring tones, ...
We better not let the word out or all our mothers will be wanting one.....
We wanted a phone simple enough for my mum (rather technologically inept) to use. The task was daunting. However, the A55 is really simple to use. Anyone would be able to master it. Not only that, but it is a very good, solid phone, with some great features.
The phone was purchased for about £39.99 on orange. It is one of the cheapest on the market at the moment but also ... ...at those who recommended it above more expensive mobiles - which must be saying something!
It's a reasonable size and rather attractive - we have the fun red coloured phone. The screen has an orange backlight and is very clear.
The phone has an easy to use speakerphone. Reception is very good. It's better than my current phone and cost half the price.
The phone comes with polyphonic ring tones,composer, WAP, cool little logos, some fantastic games ...
Advantages: Can be bumped, dropped, scratched, chipped, moaned at and run non-stop... Disadvantages: A little boring perhaps with its dreary display, but who needs colour really?
...early mobile phone era, the siemens A55 is sleak, pretty stylish, small, and only brick-like in its incredible durable-ness..if that isn't a word, then the A55 has made it one. As far as cheap-end phones go i would say this is undoubtably the best. Its rivals, mostly Nokia mobiles lack any interest and are a hark back to the days of heavy, square gadgetry. It's a phone for those people who are not bothered by gimicks such as a camera, video messaging, ... ...plain and simple, with the sole purpose of calling people and recieving SMS. This it does very well, and with some style. It comes with polyphonic ringtones, and a number of others. The display is clear and easy to follow and may be customized in terms of size, images, etc. With a lighted background that fades out nicely it did strike me initially as a very impressive little phone. Compared to a number of others it remains highly robust and lacks ...
...that I hadn't bought this Siemens A55 phone, especially after hearing that people could get them free for buying some anti-wrinkle cream from Avon!
I have the red model.
I bought mine from the Orange shop on the Orange website. It cost me £29.99 with £10 of credit. At that price, as long as it could ring and I could speak to people with it, I wasn't really that bothered about any features. The phone is a nice size and is very nice to hold.
After having this phone for six months, I am still struggling to change the settings on it. It isn't very user friendly.
...money I decided on a siemens and I found the A55.
I found from all my other previous phones that this had to be 1 of the best I had. I am not saying it is better or worse than other phones but for me it was better. When the new ones came out I got them. Wap, colour, ringtone editors and camera. But I decided that they could get expensive and very distractive, wap cost, sending pictures taken on the camera wasnt cheap and I started thinking why do ... ...internet?
I picked the siemens a55 because it was small and light and EASY to use. It even has predictive texting. It is WAP enables and does have a few games. I quite enjoy the games on though they are not always to everyones liking. And the handsfree facility is brilliant which id actually never had until this phone.
If you want a proper phone, to use as a phone and not a home pc or a games console then I'd recommend the siemens A55. ...
Siemens A55 on Orange Pay as You Go
I bought this phone a couple of years ago. All I wanted was a cheap handset on Pay as You Go for "emergency use" and this was the cheapest one that I could find. At £29.99 (plus a £10 trade in for my old phone and a £10 credit voucher) it actually only worked out at £10 for the handset - what a bargain. I have to say it's the best phone I have ever had and I doubt that I will change it until it breaks. My experience ... ...could not explain why this was happening and suggested I speak to Siemens direct. This was never solved.
I would recommend buying this phone if you want a cheap phone just for emergency use. It's definitely not one for the more fashion conscious of you out there. ...
