As a bit of a nokia fan, I was a bit apprehensive about the purchase of my siemens A55 mobile phone. But at the cheapest on the market (correct 29.03.04) at £49.99 I thought it was a bit of a bargain! ~~~Aesthetics~~~ Lets forget about the unimportant packaging and go straight on to the little red phone inside the box. When I first saw it in O2, I must admit it was the price my eyes were drawn too but on closer inspection the phone seemed pretty small and smooth i.e. no abrasive edges so comfortable to put into your pocket or slide into your tiny handbag for a night out. The exact measurements ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, Lightweight, easy to use

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No Ringtone editor

It was that time to buy a new mobile, but for a change I opted for something different instead of a Nokia, so I chose the Siemens A55 and boy it was worth it. To start the A55 looks similar to the A50 with the exception of a new type of connector in the 55 series, it supports 16 polyphonic ringtones and has a handsfree speaker system built in to the phone. The A55 is really simple to use all the phones navigation is done via three buttons just below the screen, the middle one for up, down and the phone book and the outer buttons for selecting the required options. The phone is a nice size, not ... more

The Siemen’s A55... I first got this phone on a contract through Orange. I was a little gutted really because I wanted the Nokia 3510 but they wouldn’t allow me to have it for some reason. However, when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised to say the least! It is a small, light phone – like most mobiles nowadays. It is simple and very easy to navigate your way around the menus. I found it extremly simple being an avid Nokia lover – so I’m sure a lot of other people could get their heads around it too. This model has changeable face and back panels called "ClipIt", you can easily change your ... more

Wow - review number 50! Finally got there, so I'll write a quick review on my new(ish) work phone, as it is convienently in front of me. When I started my job this year I successfully convinced the committee to get the President a mobile phone, as my predecessor had spent loads of money on his personal mobile on work realted issues, and I wasn't keen to do the same. So I was sent out into the high street with the explicit instructions to 'Keep It Cheap!' Pushing dreams of the latest Nokia out of my head, I got down to the serious business of finding a bargain mobile phone, and in the end I ... more

Advantages Advantages small, light, cheap, easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I know of yet!!!

05.02.04 - I have edited this so you might just want to skip to the bottom. I used to have a nokia that i dropped so many times it was held together by sellotape. I shopped around for a new nokia and decided that I didn't want to pay the £80 for a new one - after all with my track record I am only going to drop it again. I am on Orange Pay as you go and wanted to stay with them, so I went to my local orange shop. The Siemens A55 was on offer there for £39.99 - a bargain I am sure you will agree but thats not all. There are currently doing a deal where they give you £10.00 free air time credit ... more

    Advantages Advantages Easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Buttons are a bit fiddly

I actually got this phone free through an offer with Avon, but normally it costs £39.99 on Orange (which is the network that I got it from) and is the same on most networks (though I think that it might be cheaper on T mobile) (as of may 2004). I was in desperate need of a phone as my last one had broken, and, not being very technically minded, was relieved to find out how easy this phone was to use. The menus are fairly self explanatory. Now for the technical bit. The phone that I got is red and silver (because it is on Orange, but generally the phone is blue). I haven't yet been able to find ... more

I was always a rather big Nokia phone, but everyone i seemed to have was cursed and all my nokia's i have ever had had drowned. So when my 8310 packed in, my dad gave me an MT50 which lasted ages, but then my brother now has that one and i've now got the A55 which my mother received free from an avon promotion. I just thought it would be cheap phone that didnt last long than 5 minutes, but here i am after 6 months and still no problems. Charge it up over night, and it will last for days that consist of constent texting. The only problem is that the buttons makes this horrible clinky noise that ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use; Light; Small; Quick loading times; Performs the basic well and efficiently; Durable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Old; Does not have an in-built camera

"Petite, light and easy to use, the A55 weighs a mere 84 grams." I'll be quick to agree with the statement above. The size and weight of it allows for handy and convenient transportation of the phone. It is particularly useful when carried around in your trouser's pocket - unlike most other phones and gadgets, it doesn't show up on your pants thanks to its petiteness. As for the ease of using it, please pardon my use of a cliché to describe the phone's interface - a "no-brainer". It's simple enough, straightforward, while not loaded with useless and rarely-used programmes one would see in ... more

Advantages Advantages Functional, easy to use, cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fewer features than some of the more gimmicky phones

We better not let the word out or all our mothers will be wanting one..... We wanted a phone simple enough for my mum (rather technologically inept) to use. The task was daunting. However, the A55 is really simple to use. Anyone would be able to master it. Not only that, but it is a very good, solid phone, with some great features. The phone was purchased for about £39.99 on orange. It is one of the cheapest on the market at the moment but also one highly recommended by phone dealers - I was surprised at those who recommended it above more expensive mobiles - which must be saying something ... more
