Advantages: Durability, good looks, GPRS Disadvantages: firmware bugs
...their replacements. In contrast, the Siemens M35i which replaced the StarTAC was only four months with me and still in excellent health when I treated myself to the ME45.
To be fair, it wasn't mainly the ME45's fault -- my provider Globe Telecom (I'm in the Philippines) was offering free GPRS activation and access till the end of the year (2001). I was hesitant at first because, GPRS being new technology, handsets were bound to be expensive -- I ... ...the ME45 is the legendary Siemens durability. I'd had four months with my M35i and expected about the same from the ME45. I must say that the former even *feels* more solid, and I was apprehensive about the ME45's durability. I no longer have doubts -- I banged the ME45 hard on a table in a fit of frustration (more on that later), and no scratches or dents. I've since tried harder to control my temper because the warranty doesn't cover revenge on ...

Advantages: Bursting with features, nice screen, nice keyboard Disadvantages: Not all features are useful, questionable build quality
...ago. I'd opted for the Siemens because it had an abundance of useful sounding features: calendar, calculator, voice-activation, vibrate, GPRS and WAP, addressbook, serial cable synchonisation with PCs and an IR port. I found though that until I uploaded a firmware update recently, the synchronisation tool was an abject failure and the calendar function was simply too fiddly to work with. The ring tones are plentiful but they all grate awfully. There ... ...managed to get some from Siemens UK. The base gasket acts like a cushion for whenever I drop the phone - it is to be highly recommended that it is used when out and about! The seal around the battery compartment and the rubber keypad all serve to seal the handset from moisture ingress, which is a good thing. I've subjected my device to all sorts of abuse, involving both deliberate tests and inadvertent accidents. It's come back for more each time, ...

Advantages: Solid phone, easy to repair, simple to use Disadvantages: Old features
The Siemens ME45 was released in early 2001 as a hard wearing a durable mobile phone, and has had some staring roles, such as being the handset used by Jason Bourne, in the film, The Bourne Supremacy.
It was the James Bond of phones, and as testiment to its ability to bare knuckle fight off any damage, they can still be found for sale here and there, reaching high prices in comparison to other phones of its age.
As a Mobile phone, it boasted several ... ...modelled on the S45 model, the internal bits are more or less the same, and can be cross polinated in most cases for repair and so on.
The technical side is as follows for those who demand it, but the best stuff in my eyes is below it:

o Battery type: Li-Ion 840 mAh
Autonomy:
Standby time: 60-170 hours
Talk time: up to 60-240 minutes
Re-charging time: about 2 hour

Advantages: It is a very robust phone, infrared, wap Disadvantages: It is only a black and white. monophonic ringtones
i have had this phone for two years now, and i still currently use it, i personally think its one of the best, robust phones in the market. I purchased this phone from an 02 dealer in my local area.
This compact device combines high level functionality and a comprehensive range of flexible business tools with a robust but chic design that means that keeping in touch and in control, both in and out of the office, is simple and enjoyable. For anyone ... ...both their business and leisure time, the ME45 is the perfect companion.
Flexibility is central to the ME45, in design and functionality and as a result each user is able to manage and enhance their own personal experience and call time. The flexible memory option allows capacity to be allocated across the range of organizational tools, for example an additional 500 names can be added to the address book or additional SMS messages can be stored ...

Advantages: Strongest phone ever used - most reliable Disadvantages: none really, just a bit old!
Old, but strong!
No really decent features in comparison to the newer phones, but when new, it came with plugs to keep moisture out of the charging / accesory port and antenna port respectively, as well as a ring for the battery compartment.
It can be dropped on concrete and in water, this phone is almost indestructable. It is also certified as intrinsically safe, one of very few phones to be so - meaning it is safe to use in areas of explosive ... ...the phone still reaches higher prices on the second hand market.
It is of course compatible with a whole range of accesories, including the fitted handsfree kit, which simply works wonderfully with this little baby.
Its ability to be used for data transfer with a cable or infra red connections was most useful when this sort of this was in its infancy, and I believe 56k was easily obtainable.
At altitude and in extreme temperatures the device works ...

Advantages: waterproof, dustproof and shockproof Disadvantages: watch you don't swallow it!
Recently got this one, and naturally didn't read the instructions - it comes with it's own cd.
As phones go it's a bit on the small side for me - not one i would have gone for other than all the waterproof stuff - it was the only one I could get for work.
When I text people - not very often - I need to press the button with the 1 and the binoculars on it, this not only gives me a space, but appearantly turns off the ringing tone.
This can be both ... ...my work phone.
It has some rubber plugs which go into holes - thus rendering it waterproof, I am not convinced, however, with a two year warranty I am going to give it some serious testing - I hope it likes salt water.
I have been dragged into the mobile age via Nokia's, I like their logic and have no problems finding the stuff I want on them - this one, I need to give it time, to be fair, but I am not very comfortable with it. I mean - just because ...
