...Back in the late 90s Siemens decided to produce a new ‘designer’ kettle – and who better to get to design it than F.A. Porsche. The plan that Porsche came up with was a modern jug-kettle design in brushed stainless steel and navy blue plastic. But whilst the design is stylish, it does not loose out on functionality. The base unit is a short, dumpy cylinder in stainless steel the same diameter as the kettle, which itself stands on dumpy feet. The ... ...I got mine through the Siemens employees discount scheme which brought it down to nearer seventy quid including delivery. I would thoroughly recommend this kettle, although only buy it if you want something eye-catching and a bit special for your kitchen – no kettle should cost this much simply for the purpose of boiling water in my opinion. And if you’ve got plenty of cash, they also produce a coffee maker, toaster and blender in the same style. ...

...Only one. Porsche and Siemens have expanded the range to offer a toaster, coffee-machine and juicer on the same theme. All crushingly beautiful and disgustingly expensive for what they do. I’m beginning to fear for the health of our coffee-machine and after nearly 20 years of marriage it really is time we got an electric juicer! ...

I finally succumbed to the pressure and bought a silver porsche for the kitchen, although I shopped around on the internet quite a bit. Prices ranged from £100+ to about £67 (cheaper too if you didn't mind waiting five days for free delivery). It's quite definitely a stylish work of art, sitting on the work surface in the kitchen. It looks sleek and simple, aesthetically very pleasing. However, still very expensive for a kettle. It only boils the ... ...the cups.
Yes, it has a hidden element which is ideal for boiling very small amounts of water. It holds a nice lot of water and boils it reasonably quickly. However, whilst we do live in a reasonably hard water area, we only use filtered water in it. It's furred up a lot in just a few months so I'm going to have to try someone else's vinegar trick suggestion.
