Advantages Advantages Takes You to Another Reality

Disadvantages Disadvantages You Might Not Like Science Fiction

Within the science fiction world, Andromeda tends to be the unloved child. It is constantly mocked and ridiculed. In fact, I used to mock it myself. Then I actually sat down and watched it properly. It turns out that Andromeda is actually great. Gene Rodenberry, who most people recognise as the creator of Star Trek, devised it. His wife, Majel, produced Andromeda after Gene's death, so he never got to see his idea come to fruition. I think he would have been pleased with the result. In the opening two episodes Andromeda starts of in a universe that has known peace for quite some time. The ... more

Advantages Advantages all the right stuff, plus in series 2 a strong plot

Disadvantages Disadvantages the feeling that you've seen/read something like it before

As always with American programmes the first series was a set of mainly unrelated episodes (with a number of double episodes) that had a faint link/theme to carry the series. The purpose of these episodes is to give us all an idea of the background behind the series and familiarise ourselves with the characters and the players (the large factions who are normally the bad guys or good guys). Andromeda does this really quite well. We are given tantalising glimpses of what the Systems Commonwealth was before the collapse and the reverence with which it and the High Guard who protected it are held ... more

Advantages Advantages It is good enough. It is not a cheesy romp.

Disadvantages Disadvantages There is the danger of it succumbing to a StarTrek style

Kevin Sorbo, of Hercules: The Legendary Journey, stars as Captain Hunt in Andromeda. Now wait, if you are thinking “Uh-ooh. It’s going to be a cheesy space opera” then… well, I suppose I thought the same, but I was wrong. Andromeda is put together by the better producers and writers from shows such as Deep Space Nine and the Relic Hunter. The actors in Andromeda, even the more obscure ones, have a very good pedigree. Tyr, the warrior like human-alien is, in fact, a Shakespearean actor! The Andromeda Ascendant was one of the mighty Commonwealth of Planets’ battleships but, at the very start of ... more

    Advantages Advantages good story lines

Disadvantages Disadvantages not as good as star trek

As I am a massive star trek fan I decided to watch this when it first came out on sky 1 a few years ago. Gene Roddenbery's scripts vary massivily. I thought Star trek was brilliant but I didn't enjoy Earth Final Contact as much so I was wondering how this one would turn out. Andromada is very good. I didn't like it as much as Star Trek but I still think it is very good. How can you compare the two? (I'll just stop going on about Star Trek now and carry on with my opinion). Captain Dillan Hunt (kevin sorbo making up for the herculese series) was stuck in time after the nitchiens (baddies) ... more
