    Advantages Advantages faster, cheaper

Disadvantages Disadvantages poor support, headless chickens in call centres, poor procedures,

I don't know whether my experience is unique (I doubt it) but all I can say is if I really had a choice, Sky wouldn't be my ISP. Last November (2006) I decided that my 2mb ADSL link was inadequate and, faster being shunned by TalkTalk (I was a OneTel customer, part of their group, and they wouldn't upgrade me), I went for the Sky Max Package. Not difficult to sign up, the website said. Huh! I checked the availability in my area and it was there, so I called them up as an existing Sky customer. I have the premium channels, so going for the Talk Unlimited would have been £5pm and the 16Mb ... more

Advantages Advantages Very fast download speeds, brilliant technical support.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Regular need to reboot router.

Sky Broadband is the broadband service offered by BSkyB. Sky currently offer an ADSL broadband service which - in simple terms - means it comes down your telephone line. Sky offer three different broadband packages with their own advantages and disadvantages. The Packages Base The Base package is free to all Sky TV subscribers. The connection speed is quite slow, and there is a download limit of 2GB per month. As with all Sky Broadband packages, the router is included for free. Key Features *Up to 2Mb download speed *2GB/Month Download Limit * One-off £60 setup fee All in all, the base package ... more

It is not be be confused with dial-up, as you can still use your telephone at the same time, and there will be no interferance, as your connection is split using an ADSL filter. Advantages Advantages Affordable, reliable, fast

Disadvantages Disadvantages Mine drops the connection every night at roughly the same time.

We were with another broadband provider and I became seriously disgruntled with their customer service (or lack of it) so decided to switch to Sky Broadband. My old provider had been charging me for the 8MB service for 8 months but we were only getting the 2MB service which was £10 a month cheaper. Well... Switching was simple, first we told Sky Broadband we were interested in joining them, the chap on the other end of the phone said we needed to get a MAC code from our current provider and when we got it, we were to phone back on a different number that he gave us. I asked the chap if Sky ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap if your a sky tv subsriber

Disadvantages Disadvantages customer service/ email outages/web portal

Having been a BT subsciber for internet services since i started using the web at home way back in 1994 I was always happy with the service they provided upgrading from dail up to ISDN homehighway and ultimately Broadband when it became available in my area. Then had a few problems with 8Mb service from them and thanks to their Asian Call centre set up finally decided to switch to Sky. I had seen their offering via the various mailshots/adverts being a Sky tv subscriber you were hit with a deluge of promo offers from them, but decided yeah ok it is cheap £10.00 a month for their MAX service ... more

    Advantages Advantages FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only free with SkyTalk - still cheap without though!

I practically grew up with Sky. We have had it ever since I was about 7 when it first came out. I have only gone without it for a couple of years when I was 16. This was only because I had just moved out and couldn't afford to get it installed (it was a really hard time for me, lol!). Seriously, I can't imagine ever going back to only 4 channels. Yes, I know there is Channel 5 but hardly anyone can get the signal for it around here. Anyway, when Sky first informed me that they were starting to supply Broadband, I signed up immediately. I had been having major problems with TalkTalk (the most ... more

Advantages Advantages A cheap broadband solution for basic Internet access if you have Sky TV

Disadvantages Disadvantages A very low quality Internet service (too poor for gaming) with atrocious call centre technical support

Sky seduced me away from Telewest (now VirginMedia) with a tempting offer of TV, telephone and broadband for a very competitive price. I admit that I didnt' realise that I would also have to pay BT£11 per month for a telephone line, but that was probably my fault for not reading the smallprint. The Broadband was switched on after a couple of weeks and worked well. I paid extra for the mid speed service. I made sure that I didn't start to use the Sky email addresses allocated to ensure future portability if I needed to change Broadband provider in the future. After a few months, download speeds ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none for me

Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin. Hopefully this will be an informative and enjoyable read for you. When I got my own house we got Sky TV. My parents only had the terrestial channels, and I love tv (i've since converted them and now they have Sky!) Sky Launched their Broadband service about 3 years ago and we have had it for about 2 years and apart from the initial teething problems, I would highly recommend it. Now I will try to cover it as best I can. There are 3 Broadband packages from Sky, well 4 really, but we will get to the strange 4th option shortly. BASE PACK - This ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliable; no line-drops; very good router.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None at all!

I've been a Sky Broadband customer for 11 months now and I can honestly say that they've been the best ISP I've ever had! I was with Virgin for years, from the first days of horrendously slow dial-up to the modern days of wondrous Broadband. However, I had frequent line-drops with Virgin, even on only a 1MB connection. They eventually decided I was too far from the exchange to receive that speed, and I was downgraded to a 512KB connection. That did improve things, but I still experienced line-drops - I'd say a few times a month. I just assumed that was how it was with all ISP's. How wrong I ... more

Advantages Advantages Speed, price, ease of set up, free McAfee suite

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dependant on your exchange being unbundled, lack of ports, high demand

I was with Orange Broadband on the "up to" 8mb service for £5 a month as I am a mobile customer. I decided to move as my service with them was dire to say the least. You can only get the cheaper Sky broadband if you are a TV subscriber and your exchange has been unbundled via LLU - Local Loop Unbundling. This means Sky put their own equipment in BTs exchanges resulting in faster speeds as Sky do not have to buy space from BT. Sky have currently unbundled nearly 21% of exchanges mainly in areas of high population like the South East, Manchester/Liverpool, Newcastle, Birmingham, Edinburgh ... more
