I currently subscribe to sky tv and I noticed in the magazine a advertisement for sky telephone service. Sky has done a telephone service before but is only provided 20% off phone calls. The current service provides upto 40% off your phone bills. I have been using this service for sometime and have seen discounts on local calls upto 50% off at some times. When I receive my bill it is now only half what I use to pay under BT. To use the facility you have to be a sky digital television subscriber and connected to BT. If youve got Sky Digital you should have Sky Talk. Thats it. Even if you havent got Sky Digital you should still consider it just for the call savings- thats how good it is! OK so your monthly phone bill with BT is £100. We'll assume that thats all calls and forget about line rental (you dont get discount on that). So you save 40%, leaving you with £60 per month. Out of that take your Sky Digital subscription (I think it starts at £13) and your left with £47 saving per month! I thought I would share my very unsatisfactory with one of the best known names in the UK. Last November we were due to move house and obviously wanted to take our Sky package with us. We had signed up in the previous May for a Sky TV package, Sky Talk and Sky broadband. So I telephoned their home movers line and informed them of our moving date and our new address - straight forward you would think. I have been subscibed to skytalk for about six months now and have saved in excess of £75.00 compared to using BT. after signing up which took a little time and a couple of phone calls. All you do is ring 140 before you dial the full std and number. This service is particulally useful as it the only one that does a discount on premium numbers , that I know of, saving 40% on all calls. I enter quite a few phone competitions . making the average cost about 45p instead of over 70p with BT. I have had my telephone service disconnected 4 times by Sky through no fault of my own. I pay by invoice which takes a few days to get to me but they have cut me off before i get the invoice stating late payment. As if this wasnt bad enough the last time they disconnected me they requested 2 months in advance to reconnect it. This was the last straw and I'm now changing telephone providers. If it wasnt for Sky being the only satellite provider in the UK I would have changed that also.
