The PS2 is capable of much more than this

Advantages: Fast and fun while it lasts, impressive in places (though not many) and makes a great frisbee.
Disadvantages: Too short by a long way. Frantic, often to the point of frustration. Not particularly new or innovative.

...that totally miss the point. Silpheed: The Lost Planet is one such game. The PS2 is supposed to be a "Next Generation" console, so why is a game that is several years old being released. I took it home and put the disc in and was greeted with visuals that would not have looked out of place on a Playstation 1 rather than a PS2. The gameplay was okay for a couple of shots but the lack of a real continue or save feature hampers you and after a couple of shots you feel like flinging it out the window rather than going ...
...The bizarre concept I couldnt get over is the ability to save all your settings to the memory card yet you cant save your game progress to the memory card. The visuals within the game are poor but even more so is the collision detection during cut scenes where the game just looks like it is an initial beta copy rather than a fully fledged game. ...
