Advantages Advantages Easy to eat, brightly coloured

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too much fat and those E numbers

Many years ago when I was a schoolgirl and Rowntrees was still a company in its own right I lived in York. In the city of York there were certain smells which were strong and one of them was Chocolate. The smell of chocolate came from Rowntrees. I had the opportunity to go and visit Rowntrees factory in York. I can not remember much about the visit but one thing I do remember were the Smarties. As we went round the factory floor we passed and area where small circles of milk chocolate were moving, and cooling. Our tour guide, though not supposed to, gave us a few discs of chocolate. This was ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very Tasty

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The Dodgy Brown!

Well, Ciao is surprisingly efficient today and I was given category approval for Smarties practically instantly, so here it is – I am now voicing my opinion on this product throughout the land. Now, now Daniel, enough jabbering and get on with the opinion… Okay, okay! I went to my aunt and uncle’s house for Christmas and we played many a fascinating game. And guess what? For a change, Mr Etheridge here decided to win one. And he was presented with a wrapped tube, which rattled at the shake. He was mystified… He was feeling devilish and decided that the hour had come for ... more

Advantages Advantages Taste, you get loads in a tube

Disadvantages Disadvantages None I can think of - the kids nick them!

These are the best! You can either tip the tube into your mouth and suck (or chew) loads of them together or you can eat them one at a time and make a tube last for AGES! Whichever way you deide, they're just ace. :o) What am I waffling about, the sweet of your youth of course, Nestle Smarties. oOoOo THE TUBE oOoOo The Smarties tube is cardboard and around 5 inches long and is predominantly dark blue in colour. Nearly covering the front of the tube is the word SMARTIES in huge white letters bordered in brown. Above the 'S' you've got a red oval with the word Nestle in white. Surrounding the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Chocolate!!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many mate your teeth hurt!

The answer to what is something I've often pondered, the meaning of life, the existence of God, are there really aliens, did man, indeed, walk on the moon? Can these little sweeties contain the answer? Let us probe deeper. Seems to me that these little sweeties have been around for ever, I can remember getting them as a kid and my kids love them as well (God I sound old!) So just in case you've surfed on by from Mongolia, the Outer Hebrides, even Aberystwyth, you'll need to know what they are. They are little disc-shaped chocolates (not unlike UFO's!) Covered in a sugar shell, not plain sugar ... more

Advantages Advantages very tasty, lots of different colours enjoyed by children (and adults aswell)

Disadvantages Disadvantages too few in a pack - once I get eating them, there's soon none left!

Whenever I go to the newsagents for a paper, I end up coming out with a lot more than I'd planned! I always get seduced by the vivid colours of the appetising packets, and the strong sugary smells. It's really no wonder I'm fat, but having a large knowledge of most chocolate and sweets, I will be able to give you a clear, unbiased opinion on smarties, which for me have to be one of the nicest products in shops. ------------------------------------------------------ To begin, I'll describe the packaging: Ah yes, the traditional British smartie tube, which cannot be changed due to its well known ... more

Advantages Advantages fun to eat, good value for money

    Disadvantages Disadvantages make children hyper

When I was at school a boy in my year once wrote in an exam “only Smarties have the answer” instead of answering the question. Needless to say the teachers were not overly impressed. The year before a whole group of them had written “I am a chicken” on another exam paper. They were not chickens and the school was not impressed by that either. But I digress. The other day I found myself pondering the many wonders of the universe and the Smarties’ slogan just popped into my head. That is the power of suggestion for you. It dawned on me that it had been a few weeks since I had had some Smarties ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages that i don't have a never ending tube living in my cupboard - for my daughter OFCOURSE!

“Red and yellow and pink and green, orange and purple and bluuuuuue, I can sing the rainbow, sing the rainbow, sing the rainbow………and EAT ‘EM TOO!!!!” Ah the songs we sing as youngsters…. or not so youngsters as this case is, my young daughter looking on at me, her face contorted into a look of disgust and disbelief as I stuff the little blighters in me gub and giggle whole heartedly to myself that life really can’t get any better! Yes, at the ripe old age of nineteen I have rediscovered the joys and wonders of Nestles ‘Smarties’-and ... more

I was in my local bar and one day the conversation turned, as it was inevitably bound to do, to Smarties. "Of course I like the orange Smarties best, because they are the only ones with a different taste", I proclaimed to the regulars. Looks passed between them and then back to me and I was put in mind of walking into a pub in the middle of nowhere and everything goes deathly quiet and they all turn and stare at you. "What are you talking about, taste different?" "Er... Well, they taste of orange.", I offered to the puzzled looks. I was then greeted with a chorus of "Don't be stupid" and "Get ... more

    Advantages Advantages great for children

    Disadvantages Disadvantages made by nestle

Smarties I was looking in the sweet category for inspiration and discovered Smarties. Now I have not eaten a Smartie for many a year. Why? Partly because I am grown up but mostly because they are made by Nestle. As a child in the 50’s I was given Smarties as a treat. There were not such a wide variety of sweets available then When they were originally marketed Rowntrees produced them in 1937.They sold in bags for 2d that’s about 1p. In 1988 they were bought out by nestle. A small smarties tube costs 30p in tesco’s . It is possible to by other makes of small coloured sweets ... more

Advantages Advantages Sugar shelled chocolately treats, cool colours

Disadvantages Disadvantages calories, and there are never enough in a pack!

Nestle chocolate in a crisp coloured sugar shell. I have been eating these for years and the little letter you get underneath the cap has always been somehing nestle decided not to change, even though the packaging colour, design and logo has undergone some alteration since my generation were buying these as kids. Also despite my many years of munching away and putting each of these little caps into a draw, I am still un able to spell an entire alphabet. So, if my spelling is a bit dodgey - blame the smarties! (as a child I was deprived a complete alphabet!) PLACE OF PURCHASE: Asda COST: £0 ... more
