...had always wanted a pink smeg fridge, so was overjoyed when my mother-in-law offered to buy us one as a wedding present. To be honest, I didn't research it, I knew it came in pink, it was bigger than my last fridge and that was as far as I looked.
After ordering it we were asked to specify which side we would like the handle on as the door is not reversible. This wasn't a hard choice for us at this stage, but I guess if we move and want it somewhere ... ...was going to have a smeg it would be silly not to get it on pink).
Compared to my previous fridge it is very spacious. I used to have to pack my other fridge in a "krypton-factor" style after we had been shopping whereas this one has plenty of space. It really came into it's own at a party when we could not only fit all the food in, but everyone's drinks too, and we could lay the wine down in the included wine rack.

...is the whole point about SMEG fridges. You are buying the look as much as, if not more than anything else. They are classic 1950's retro style fridges. Other companys do pale imitations, but the point is they are not SMEG. This actually is a kitchen appliance for the brand conscious!
That's the waffle out of the way, now I'll give you the spec.
Size
This is the mini version of the SMEG refridgeration line. If you don't have a seperate freezer, ... ...bigger brothers! The SMEG FAB28 is a very generous fridge with an ice box on the top that we use for nothing other than making ice cubes. You could fit a couple of bits in the ice box, but nothing much.
The fridge itself is a great size, much bigger than a standard fridge or the fridge section of a fridge freezer and perfect for a large family to fit all their requirements into. Even at Christmas there was plenty of room for the Christmas food shop!

Although my pink Smeg fridge is one of the most beautiful things I have bought for my house, I would recommend caution to anyone considering it. The main drawback from the word Go is that, unlike most fridges, it has to be specified as left-hand or right-hand hinged. Maybe not a problem if you are designing your kitchen and know you will never need to move the fridge anywhere else -- but involving deep breaths and crossed fingers for me.
Then I ... ...it is happening again.
Smeg customer service in the UK has been very helpful. (Actually, the first problem I had is that the fridge arrived with a continental plug! The only solution to this has been a rather bulky and unattractive adapter that was sent to me. ) But I have not been impressed with the quality of the appliance. As a fridge, there is a good amount of room inside, and some good compartment arrangements, including a built-in wine rack. ...

I have had a FAB28 for almost 2 years, it is a great looking fridge but is now showing signs of wear and tear, one of the shelves has broken beyond repair and I have been told by Smeg that I have overloaded it (will have to stop buying such heavy butter and yogurts in future!) and also one of the shelf supports in the door has broken off (must buy heavy milk in our house too?). Having spent almost £1000 on a fridge I would have expected it to last a lot longer. I have read other comments regarding the freezer door, luckily for us we only use the freezer for ice so ours hasn't broken ..... yet! ...

We bought this fridge because we never had enough room inour standard fridge. It was expensive (around £800) but we are delighted with it.
Firstly, it looks good which is very important in a free standing appliance. We looked at cheaper copies, but none of them were up to the same build quality. The door is solid and chunky, handle easy to use.
We chose the silver finish at it looks sleek and trendy, but timeless. It polishes up beautifully with ... ...fittings are of excellent quality and there is just stacks of room.
There are lots of door compartments for milk, butter eggs, drinks cans and other such items. There is a stainless steel bottle rack along the top to store large bottles horizontally, and we find that useful.
There is a nice big salad drawer and another plastic drawer with a lid that we use for veg.
Lastly on the interior,loads of shelf space. We planned a meal for 22 with puddings ...

I do not own this fridge myself, but we have got one at work and my god, it is amazing!
Where I work we have a pretty posh kitchen and the Smeg fridge just completely finishes off the look. It is absolutely gorgeous, which, lets face it is the main reason anyone would buy one. The space in the fridge is great too, it is nice to have a big space to put everything, it is great for drinks, great for sticking in shopping bags, infact, ... ...you feel confident you have closed it, the seal on the fridge is lovely too, strange thing to say but it just feels really sturdy. Despite all this the best thing about it is its looks, it gets ums and arrs every day and I have not got sick of looking at it. It feels like a bit of artwork in the kitchen. Is that a slightly sad thing to say about a fridge?! ...

Advantages: Stylish, good choice of colours. Very good customer service. Disadvantages: Expensive, poor-performing fridge, dressed up nicely. It doesn't keep stuff cold!
If you have a FAB28, I advise you to check the temperature: thermometers are cheap compared with spoilt food and the risk of poisoning. My first one was quite variable (rather than controllable) and didn't get below about 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. It was re-gassed, which didn't help. It sprang a gas leak soon afterwards, aged about 2 months, and was unserviceable. The replacement performed just as badly but I persevered with it. After a while I had ... ...'repair' involved padding the seal out with plumber's mate (putty). Still no good but I persevered a while longer. Then it completely failed aged about 1 year. The compressor was replaced but it's not the same as the original and it's unacceptably noisy - whistling and buzzing. It ran a bit cooler for a few days but inconsistently again. 8 degrees Celsius this morning, and the buzz is terrible. I'll call them out again. The service guys warn to make ...

I have had problems ever since we bought our FAB 28 fridge. The Freezer door gave way after about 1 year. I think everyone that has one of these has replaced the door. But my biggest issue at present is that the plastic insert on the back of the main door is very cheap. The lugs which hold the bottle carriers perish after 3 years and now I cannot use them. The repair solution from smeg is to order a whole new door at a cost of £266.40. Outrageous! Don't buy this Italian rubbish. Nice piece of furniture but not much of a fridge. ...

I contacted Smeg who told me that the freezer door will break with heavy use and they directed me to their website where replacements can be bought for an extortionate price - is it me? Take my advice DO NOT BUY THIS FRIDGE. Please check out other reviews, they all seem to say the same thing. My experience doesn't appear to be a one- off.

We have had a Smeg Fab28 in the house for nearly 3 years now. It looks very nice from the outside.
It does keep the food chilled.
However the build quality is awful.
We have the following faults :
1 ) new door seal and door.
2 ) the Smeg logo on the door keeps falling off.
3 ) the drinks holder in the door is broken.
4 ) all the bits of plastic that hold the shelves in place are broken.
5 ) the hinge for the freezer door is broken.
6 ) the ... ...this the complete dismissive way Smeg treat old customers.
Dont touch it with a barge pole - if it hadn't cost so much in the first place it would be on its way to the tip.
For those that want the details :
FAB28 range is the 50's style rounded Fridge.
Colours - various pastels blue, green
Size about 5 foot high , 2 foot wide. Features : fridge with small freezer section - nothing else special.
Price when bought £900.00

...food fresh and with my smeg fridge thats what I can have. I find that it keeps things fresher than any other fridge I have ever had. There is lots of space in this fridge with wonderfull door compartments and crisping boxes. I am a person who likes to keep money not spend it and with this fridge thats definately what I do, I save over twice the amount of money on running costs and food going bad this is a truly ten out of ten fridge and a must have ...
