HISTORY
Mars
Mars is a well known company around the world, and I'm pretty sure almost everybody you ask in the UK will have heard of at least five Mars Products. The Mars Headquarters remain in Virginia USA, however the products are sold world wide. The most famous Mars product, is namely the Mars Bar, however there are many other delicious and well known confectionary items produced by Mars, such as Twix, Malteasers, Skittles and the ... ...worlds largest confectioner. Mars was founded in 1911 by a man called Frank Mars. One of Mars' first most popular and well known chocoalte bars was the "Milky Way" in 1923. After the Milky Way was born, the Mars company grew more popular and so it began to grow. The Mars company, since it was born, has remained extremely secretive and literally nobody has been allowed access into the factory. Now almost 100 years since Mars was founded, it is still ...

Preamble/ramble
Having not embarked upon a snack related review for a while, I believe now may be a good time to address this particular deficiency!
I’ve decided to choose the Snickers Bar as the subject for my review as it is a snack that I enjoy on a regular basis. Probably too regular a basis if I admit it, but there we go!
That Name
Snickers. That’s the name of this particular chocolate treat. Now call me old fashioned but I feel that there ... ...I suppose it comes down to the fact that I remember many moons ago when these bars were called Marathon. Now that was a good name, Marathon. It conjured up images of being on a very long run and needing some sort of energy boost. What better thing to do that to gobble down a Marathon Bar and give yourself that sugary energy injection?? Marathon. Splendid name.
Sadly it seems that the Marathon name was no longer deemed suitable for us. I blame it ...

...is the size of a Mars bar (about an inch think and 6 inches long). There is a white panel dominating the front of the packet with the words…….. SNICKERS in blue type across. Wow, doesn’t it just sound fantastic? But on a more serious note, I would be gutted to walk into a newsagents only to find my trusted Snickers has become a plush purple colour with glitzy writing. TASTING YOUR SNICKERS
Open you gob as wide as it will go and prepare your nashers ... ...flavouring, shared by that of Mars bars and Maltesers, you know the lighter milk chocolate taste. The caramel has a light sweet taste, and is not really too heavy. And the peanuts taste as fresh as ………… the day they were roasted?? To be really honest you cant really taste the chocolate that covers this bar, this bar is all about filling, filling, filling and boy does it have plenty of that. THE BAR ITSELF
The Snickers is divided up into layers, ...

Tony, it’s Jack, is Nina there?
No she went out to pick up breakfast, why?
I think the house security is compromised.
Oh shit! why, what makes you think that?
I’ve just come down to make breakfast and there’s a package in the icebox. It wasn’t there last night and it’s not anything I’ve seen before.
OK Jack, first things first, where are Teri and Kim?
In bed
Good, go tell them ... ...me back on the mobile, I want to be able to see what we're dealing with.

Advantages: Nice Taste, Smell, Good Price Disadvantages: Bit of a boring wrapper, amy get beaten by new things on the market
...months it help sell it. Mars and Snickers were one of the first chocolate bars to be sold, and if you didn’t want a box of chocs, these were brill.
Snickers is still very, very appealing to a lot of people, but because of the variety on the market on the market at the moment, sadly old Snickers aren’t having the best of times!
**The Taste?**
Well, at one time Snickers was my favourite chocolate bar. I used to have one every night, ... ...the milky chocolate with the nuts wrapped in caramel!
I often found, though, that the bar was sometime difficult to bite into, and it would take a good bite to get it in your mouth! You really did, and still have to, bite hard, because the nuts can be hard to bite through.
The milky chocolate around it is barely tasted, because unlike other chocolates, Snickers has an awful lot of filling, and doesn’t hold back. The filling entails the nuts ...

Advantages: Better value than Mars Disadvantages: Nuts don't like me ... Awwwwwww !!
...choccy you got on a Mars bar. It was at that point I defected to the Snickers bar even though it is made my the same company, Masterfoods.
Masterfoods as you should all know by now are not my favourite candy company but I have already explained my reasoning there so no need to go over that again.
Anyway onto the wrapping for the bar. Obviously plastic with no hint of foil-type substance whatsoever ( cheap gits !! ) the wrapper is predominantly ... ...pretty much exactly like a Mars bar on the outside but on taking a bite it is easy to taste the difference. There is not as much nougat in a Snickers bar as there is in a Mars bar. It’s about 50 % nougat and 50 % caramel and nuts. I find that the caramel seems to be thicker in a Snickers bar or it could just be me but it does seem that way. There are certainly a lot of peanuts though I will give them that. The chocolate is marginally thick though ...

...is similar to that in Mars bars, although in this case it is somewhat overshadowed by the peanuts and you may not notice it very much. Nevertheless, due to it being light and fluffy, it will prolong the enjoyment of your taste buds before you swallow.
Although this is very sweet, it is guaranteed to give you an energy boost due to all of the sugar involved. No nutritional information was available on the packet, but I can tell you that it has plenty ... ...you a lift without making you feel sick. The only disadvantages that I can think of are the price and please remember: it is not suitable for nut allergy sufferers. Go ahead, buy one and think of how much you need it!

Advantages: Great if you like salted peanuts Disadvantages: Just tastes of salted peanuts
...bascially the same as a Mars Bars except with peanuts. Well, it's supposed to be; I'll give you the taste vedict in a moment to see how it compares (to the good old Mars Bar, not the new version). This product is suitable for vegetarians but guess what - It contains nuts! Per 58g bar there are 296kcal and 16.5g of fat so it's a good job I don't think I like these! Compare that to a Mars Topic Bar (which is basically the same I think but with Almonds) ... ...size of 47g. A Mars Bar, despite the bigger size of 58g, has less fat at 10.1g and less calories at 259kcal.
Ok I've opened the wrapper...I can instantly smell the salty peanuts before even taking the bar out! Holding it closer to my nose, the faint sweet smell of milk chocolate is just able to make itself known. Pulling it out, it looks exactly like a Mars Bar. Same rectangular bar with that slightly rippled top. Nibbling an end of the chocolate ...

THE WRAPPER
The Snickers comes in a brown wrapper. Across the centre is written "Snickers" in bold, blue letters on a white background with a red border. The logo has a retro feel to it, sort of early to mid 1970s. I felt that I'd bought a snack that was not just aimed at youngsters, but also for adults who had enjoyed a Snickers (nee Marathon) in their childhood. I liked this feeling of familiarity.
Beneath the logo is a picture of a Snickers ... ...peanuts. I was pleased with this as it made me feel I'd bought a snack that would be full of peanuts, and that I should prepare for the nutty onslaught.
THE SMELL
The Snickers doesn't smell strong. The chocolate smell is barely detectable. You can smell the peanuts, but beneath that is an underlying aroma of sugar. This disappointed me. I prefer the sharp smell of chocolate to the sickly sweet smell of sugar. I didn't find the smell that appetising. ...

We follow America's footsteps in everything and its a crux to bear especially when we rename the well known, well loved Marathon bar to Snickers. Or was that just a marketing ploy by Mars?? I remember the old tune. M A R A T H O N peanuts and chocolate... Oops showing my age there

...that was owned by the Mars Family!...If you don't ask you will never know!
As well as the normal sized chocolate bar Snickers is available in King size, Fun size and miniatures.
There is the milk chocolate version which is my favourite but there is also a dark chocolate Snickers bar and an Almond snickers bar.
As expected the Snickers bar is calorie laden, in fact it has 266 calories in every bar.
It also seems that the bar was originally introduced ... ...bit more cheerful! But then Mars have sold millions of the bars...so they know exactly what they are doing.
Open the end of the packet and let the Snickers see the light of day. The bar is about five inches long and an inch wide. On the top of the bar the chocolate is thickly rippled, the sides and bottom also have an ample covering. Bite into the bar and you see that the bottom layer consists of thick creamy nougat, sitting on top of the layer ...

...and is part of the Mars range. This is very evident by the striking similarities that Snickers has with Mars minus the peanuts.
Before I start if you are allergic or do not like peanuts or nuts in general, then this product is certainly not for you. Snickers is predominantly a nut based chocolate and every bite that you take emphasizes this emphatically. Snickers comes in a healthy bar size of 64.5gms. I doubt that many chocolates of this size would ... ...goes to prove this is one big chocolate bar. The bar has a thick chocolate coating and the interior is full of peanut butter nougat, a thick and sticky caramel center and an abundance of roasted peanuts.
The wrapper is in the unmistakable chocolate brown colour with the word “Snickers” occupying most of the front and in its familiar blue colour. Two large peanuts complete the scenario on the front of the wrapper.
As with most milk chocolates ...

...produce many other favourites like Mars Bars, Bountys and Malteasers. Once called 'Marathon', they eventually were subjected to a name change: Snickers. Depending on where you are situated, you can purchase these for around 32 pence - 45 pence each. I saw them at ASDA today for 32 pence. If you want to have a Snickers but don't fancy having one of these large bars, you could buy a pack of ' Miniature Snickers'.
Or you could go the the other end ... ...roughly the same as a mars bar does, width wise. As you will probably see - it is a chunky looking bar.
Now, shall we sample the taste? You don't want to? Ohh you do? Well okay then. Imagine the Snickers' bar as a cross section diagram, the inside would look like this - starting from the top: Layer of chocolate caramel, peanut butter with the roasted peanuts in it and then at the bottom the white nougat.
As you place this bar inbetween your teeth ...
