    4 Stars Evil snowmen! 11/11/2007
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Gallops along at a cracking pace

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many characters

When Detectives Gino and Magozzi attend a snowman-making competition in wintry Minnesota, the last thing they are expecting to find is a dead body. Yet this is precisely what they do find - inside one of the snowmen. And not just one body, but two! Even worse, the bodies are soon identified as cops. Then a probation officer goes missing. By the time his body has been found, also in a snowman, his killer is loose and heading for his ex-wife, whom he used to beat on a regular basis. The ex-wife is apparently safe - living in a secure compound where all visitors, especially men, are carefully ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent story and great characters

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not so much of Monkeewrench

Detectives Magozzi and Rolseth are back in their fight against Minneapolis crime. This time they have a couple of dead policemen, stacked inside snowmen to contend with. The county is experiencing its worst blizzard for many years and the detectives are called out to a remote part of the country - Dundas County - by the brand new sheriff, Iris Rikker. She has another snowman and they want to explore the links but things turn up that no one expected or particularly wanted to come to light. Sometimes secrets are better off buried in snowmen! I was so pleased to finally be able to read this book ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice follow on from the other books

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many leads to follow

I have been addicted to PJ Tracy since the first novel came out. I love the characters who all have their quirks. They are all disturbed to a certain degree and it makes someof them very believable and others less so. I always enjoy the fact that a lot of the characters (Roadrunner, Annie, Grace, etc...) are determined by what they wear. The colours and fabrics bring them to life. I enjoyed this book but not as much as the previous ones. The plot started off as fantastic, a kind of wonderland gone horribly wrong but then twisted and turned too much for any of the leads to get anywhere and I ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy read, compelling enough to keep you going to the end

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough about the characters they have made us love

PJ Tracy, what have you done? I have been addicted to the writing of this mother-and-daugher team ever since I read Want to Play? and was looking forward to reading this book. Sadly, it didn't live up to my expectations. Previous books by them have been witty, thrilling and impossible to put down. The time spent building up the four Monkeewrench characters has been ignored in this novel, as the crew make only token appearances. Having said all that, I did find it hard to put down, and read it in three days. Ruth is possibly their new star character, and comes across rather like Tempe Brennan ... more

Advantages Advantages A new ending for the serial killer type books!

Disadvantages Disadvantages I was scared to build a snowman this year!

What a journey these characters have been on. Grace and her monkeywrench crew, the computer geeks who can break down any security programme there is and have invented everything from school programmes, games, and even police crime linkage programmes. And Detectives Magozzi and Rolselth from the Minneapolis Homicide Dept, the two old fashioned comedy duo, that always seem to come up trumps. All have a bond for life that only they will ever understand, and Magozzi is still holding a special place for Grace in his heart, which he has been working on throughout the 3 previous books, their ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent storyline yet again

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not long enough

This is another brilliant book by PJ Tracy. Has the two detectives Rolseth and MAgozzi back in again with a little mention of the Computer expert gang (monkeewrench). Leo is still in love with Grace but no developments there. Snowmen are being built with bodies in them. There appears to be links with them all. A safehouse full of women becomes the centre of attraction for the two detectives. Excellent story where you imagination runs wild. I found myself reading faster and faster just to get to the end and discover who dunnit! Has a very ironic end and almost just deserts for women. I would ... more
