Secret ingredient needed for laundry

Advantages: cheap, softens clothes, stain removing ability
Disadvantages: none

...my sister recommended I try soda crystals. Soda crystals have been around for years and have been used for cleaning before the creation of modern cleaning products. I found a bag in Asda for 75p for 1kg. I thought this was a great bargain and was hopeful it would help my clothes. I have only been using this for a couple of weeks and I wished I had discovered this sooner. I put a small amount (about 2 tablespoons) in with my washing powder and wash ...
...would need fabric conditioner but soda crystals soften the water used to wash clothes and therefore reduces the need for this and I also found out that soda crystals are great for removing stains and act as a stain remover so your whites really do come out whiter! I was really pleased with the results of my white wash and wished someone had told me sooner. Soda crystals have other advantages to using them in your laundry. As they soften water it ...

Little Cleaning Crystals of Wonderment

Advantages: Cheap, Environmentally friendly, Versatile...they're just great, ok?
Disadvantages: You wouldn't want to sprinkle them on your cornflakes!

...save. My latest discovery is Soda Crystals and for this I need to thank Kim and Aggie and my other half being late home, causing me to watch their programme on BBCAmerica (Their show is on 4 times a day in America, can you believe it?). My shopping bill seems to get bigger and bigger and I often find new products I want to try out, or 'need' as they claim to 'better than the rest'. My biggest expense always seem to come from cleaning products, be ...
...looking, salt like stuff, called Soda Crystals (sometimes known as 'washing soda'). I had heard of them before but didn't really know what they did. It turns out they have been around for over 200 years as a recognised cleaning product. Not only are they a traditional cleaning product, but they are highly versatile, cheap and most importantly, environmentally friendly. They are biodegradable and don't contain any phosphates, enzymes or bleach. Two ...

I got married recently and had to clean my house for 50 guests. I searched my cuboard for something to clean with. I pulled out a bag of soda crystals!!! Superb stain remover.

Advantages: cheap; safe and removes stains like no other
Disadvantages: not safe on aluminium

I first read about soda crystals (aka washing soda) in a book on environmentally friendly cleaning product alternatives. I vaguely remembered then my mum using them to unblock the sink when I was young in the 80s. I read on ciao of one lady using them to whiten her tea towels; well I have 3 boys under the age of 4 and I must have thrown away 10s if not 100s of vests; socks and other white badly stained items. i have also had to throw away coloured ...
...with a drawer full of soda crystals and a bit of washing powder; it worked so well even old banana stains came out! When I added fabric conditioner the next time the items turned out lovely and soft and as new. Even coloured items were not damaged by the process; although do be warned that that plasticky printed writing or pictures you get on kids item will disintegrate if you wash those items with soda crystals. While the constant use of 95 degree ...

I recently used the power of the soda crystal solution to rid my patio area of moss and leaf residue. It was an amazing result. I left soda crystals over the effected area overnight and then rinsed all away the next day with a hose. Result = patio worthy of a new lounger!! ...

The Force Is Strong

Advantages: Cheap and versatile, environmentally friendly
Disadvantages: Can't use to clean aluminium, irritant

...they have never heard of soda crystals, or "washing soda", as it is sometimes called. Almost none of my friends use it. Yet soda crystals have been around a long, long time - in fact, at the beginning of the century they were virtually the only cleaning product available except for soap. And this is probably why they are not in demand today, as they are seen as old-fashioned, and too general in their action. It seems that consumers today want specialised ...
...I have always bought soda crystals as a 1kg pack of crystals from the laundry aisle in the supermarket. They come in a light and dark blue plastic bag with "soda crystals" emblazoned across the front in white letters. As the name suggests, the pack contains tiny, free-flowing white crystals. However, I believe that they are also available in a liquid "spray" form, or mixed with an anti-bacterial agent or orange oil. They can be used in virtually ...

Soda Crystals - One Multi Purpose cleaner!

Advantages: Very cheap, versatile...and environmentally friendly!
Disadvantages: I can't find any!

...I had never heard of Soda Crystals, until my mum recommend that I use them on a stubborn blocked drain. I bought a 1kg pack from Sainsbury's for about 85p and I've been converted ever since! It worked a treat on my drain, just by pouring the crystals down, and flushing through with boiling water. I do it every month or so now, to prevent it getting that bad again! The beauty of Soda Crystals is their versatility! They can be used all around the ...
...company I've found that produce Soda Crystals is Dri-Pak. They also manufacture other traditional cleaning products like Bicarb and White Vinegar and Borax Dri-Pak also manufactures Liquid Soda Crystals, which are available in a spray bottle. This is a lot handier, as you don't need to make up a solution first - I think I paid about £1.50 for a 500ml bottle. I've found that Liquid Soda Crystals are great for cleaning my bathroom tiles and strangely ...

I'm Not A Scrubber

Advantages: Clean your whole house for just 99p
Disadvantages: Just aluminium but even that can be used as an advantage.

Soda Crystals: Cheap and Chips and still going strong after over 150 years of use! It's nearing the anniversary of my grandma's death. She was a wonderful lady, strong and even though grandparents shouldn't have favourites, she made it quite clear to everyone that I was hers. Sadly she died from cancer after a long battle. It is in her memory that I'd like to review soda crystals. A bizarre thing to dedicate to her but I know she'd appreciate it. ...
...~~~What did Grandma Do?~~~ Soda crystals have been in use for just over 150 years and they're still going strong. While not as popular as newer household cleaning products, they are just as effective. These newer products containing detergent, bleach or enzymes have taken over but soda crystals are still used by farmers, commerce and industry despite their popularity for the home dwindling. At the beginning of the 20th century there was much less ...

OUT DAMN SPOT OUT

Advantages: Cheap and Versatile
Disadvantages: IRRITANT

I started to use soda crystals when my bathroom sink blocked. My mother bless her soul suspected grease and suggested an old fashion approach SODA CRYSTALS. That was sometime ago. After a while I got bored with the time it took to work and used other types of cleaners ie Mr Muscle. Unfortunately these can be rather caustic and expensive. So I searched through my cupboards and pulled out my bag of SODA CRYSTALS. My packet manufactured by Dri Pak comes ...

Advantages: Good on greasy deposits
Disadvantages: Leaves a residue and dries hands

...that I should try using Soda Crystals. The next time I was shopping, I saw the said Soda Crystals and purchased them at the small cost of 62p, (I’ve found them even cheaper since then). The Crystals come in two formats, Soda Crystals, (small rocks about the size of petit pois) and Fine Soda Crystals, (a sugar like consistency) If you can get them, the Fine Soda Crystals are easier to use but both work equally as well. I get my Soda Crystals home and put a desert spoon of the crystals into each cup fill them with hot water and make up a sink full of a weaker solution to stand the cups in.
