Soda Crystals: Cheap and Chips and still going strong after over 150 years of use! It's nearing the anniversary of my grandma's death. She was a wonderful lady, strong and even though grandparents shouldn't have favourites, she made it quite clear to everyone that I was hers. Sadly she died from...

In my eternal quest to try and save money, and allow me to spend more on the finer things in life (nice holidays etc), I've reading up a lot on different ways to shop and save. My latest discovery is Soda Crystals and for this I need to thank Kim and Aggie and my other half being late home...

Cheap and versatile, environmentally friendly

Can't use to clean aluminium, irritant

I am always amazed when people say to me that they have never heard of soda crystals, or "washing soda", as it is sometimes called. Almost none of my friends use it. Yet soda crystals have been around a long, long time - in fact, at the beginning of the century they were virtually the only...

I realised my washing machine was not taking the fabric conditioner and my clothes came out rough to touch and a little stiff. The machine itself was fine and was taking the washing powder so rather than incur the additional expense of calling out a plumber or buying a new washing machine my...

Good on greasy deposits

Leaves a residue and dries hands

I live in a hard water area, and one of the problems I have (apart from all water appliances scaling up), is my tea cups seem to soak up stains like a sponge. The only dishwasher I have in the house is called “John” who insists the washing up is his job in his pursuit of becoming a “new age man”...

One of the most effective and cheapest all round cleaning agents is Soda crystals. It can be used to clean almost everything except aluminium. It comes in 1kg packs and the price varies between 52p and 59p. These prices relate to my area and could differ around the country. The product does not...

I first read about soda crystals (aka washing soda) in a book on environmentally friendly cleaning product alternatives. I vaguely remembered then my mum using them to unblock the sink when I was young in the 80s. I read on ciao of one lady using them to whiten her tea towels; well I have 3 boys...

IRRITANT

I started to use soda crystals when my bathroom sink blocked. My mother bless her soul suspected grease and suggested an old fashion approach SODA CRYSTALS. That was sometime ago. After a while I got bored with the time it took to work and used other types of cleaners ie Mr Muscle. Unfortunately...

I recently used the power of the soda crystal solution to rid my patio area of moss and leaf residue. It was an amazing result. I left soda crystals over the effected area overnight and then rinsed all away the next day with a hose. Result = patio worthy of a new lounger!!

I can't find any!

To be honest, I had never heard of Soda Crystals, until my mum recommend that I use them on a stubborn blocked drain. I bought a 1kg pack from Sainsbury's for about 85p and I've been converted ever since! It worked a treat on my drain, just by pouring the crystals down, and flushing through with...

I got married recently and had to clean my house for 50 guests. I searched my cuboard for something to clean with. I pulled out a bag of soda crystals!!! Don't know how they got there ( think my mum must have bought them) Well they are like magic in a bag. I cleaned all my dooors, conservatory upvc, kitchen cuboards just everywhere. They are amazing. So now I have a husband and a trusted faithful friend.I will spread the word.

Question

Are dry soda crystals good for getting smells out of ski boots? I read that baking soda is but pkt is small. I tried freezing the inner boot outside for 2 nights, but that didn't work! I don't fancy soaking in Detto...

The best thing I find is to soak a cloth in Febreeze fabric spray liquid for clothing and line it against the sole. Spray the sides of the boot with Febreeze. Bicarb powder actually works better if it is put in contact with the offending area - and it wouldn't do you any harm for the powder to remain in the boot to work in tandem with Febreeze. If you want vacuum out the boot if you feel the white powder will stain dark socks w/general wear.
