Advantages Advantages Great adhesion, easy to mix, great range

Disadvantages Disadvantages Need to keep away from children and pets

I quite enjoy a bit of DIY and one of the things I like to do is hang wallpaper - it is great way to get a new finish to a room and the results don't take too long to achieve. I live in a house where the walls are not perfectly finished so wallpapering is useful to cover up the odd imperfection. Whenever I am wallpapering I usually make a bee-line for the Solvite Wallpaper Adhesive because I have been really pleased with this product whenever I have used it. Many years ago they ran a series of TV adverts where they pasted a bloke on to a board using Solvite and then flew him over the ... more

I have lived in France for a long time now, and have done many wallpapering jobs, and was disappointed with the pastes that are available. Now, I keep a stock of Solvite because I know that it does what it is supposed to do, and in damp houses such as we have in Brittany, this is a superior glue that inhibits mould, and one that is simple to use. Many people make the mistake of not reading instructions for mixing and end up with a lumpy consistency. You know, mixing wallpaper paste is very simple. Measure the water, stir it til it is going around in circles, and then add the paste flakes ... more

    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages Paper looks good when dry and painted - it is extra strong - fungicide

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't mix well - doesn't allow slide etc

Solvite Extra Strong All Purpose Wallpaper Adhesive: I recently decorated my Mum's bedroom and despite being on a budget I thought it best to pay a little extra for the basics so that the finish would be good and it would last longer. When choosing a wallpaper paste (or adhesive if you want the search function on B&Q to find it) I went for Solvite as it was a brand I knew of that I believed to be quality. I purchased the extra strong adhesive for a couple of reasons, firstly it was (obviously) billed as extra strong and secondly it has a fungicide in it which was excellent as the room I was ... more

    Advantages Advantages good bonding

    Disadvantages Disadvantages I hate wallpapering.

We have not yet even chosen the wallpaper for the sitting room yet (badly needs redecorating after the building work has completely finished). But if we do it ourselves (probably will as little cash left) we will use solvite wallpaper paste made by Henkel adhesives.. This paste is available in my favourite store (B&Q) as well as many other D I Y shops. I expect we will use the extra strong all purpose solvite. It comes in a bright yellow bag or box enough for 5, 20 or 30 rolls of wallpaper costing £2.18, £4.48p or £4.98p respectively. This powder paste is mixed with water quickly and is ready ... more

Advantages Advantages It does what it says on the box

    Disadvantages Disadvantages usual mess

When deciding to decorate our front room my partner and I went to the local hard ware store to look for some wallpaper paste, looking around there is a wide range of them. Seeing solvite I remembered the adverts with the man attached to a board by his overalls whilst swinging from a helicopter and thought this was the stuff for me. Not only did solvite do standard wallpaper adhesive but it also came in a number of different forms such as: ***** SOLVITE Extra Strong All Purpose ***** Ideal for all wallpapers. Extra strong for reliable, long lasting results. Smooth consistency for easy use ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good adhesive

Disadvantages Disadvantages not for all papers

I am a professional wallpaper hanger and I have used this solvate paste for some of the most expensive wallpapers, however, it can be used for all different types of papers as well. You can buy it ready mixed in a tub or in powder form. I usually use this by applying the paste with a thin pile roller and tray as it makes the paste so much quicker to put on and evenly spreads out over the wallpaper. I also find that some papers will recommend that you us a ready mixed paste like solvate as It allows the paper to slide nicely across the wall, it will also give you a really good adhesion onto the ... more
