3 Stars Icy Hedgehog vs the Snow Plumber Review with images 08/01/2010

Advantages Advantages Decent graphics and good presentation

Disadvantages Disadvantages Controls are average, and some events are a bit dull

Let the games begin In the past, Mario the plumber and Sonic the Hedgehog wouldn't have been seen dead together - the iconic figureheads of Nintendo and Sega battled it out over many years in an attempt to become the world's favourite video game character. In the end it was Mario (or at least Nintendo) who came out trumps, consigning Sega to a fate of dropping out of the home console market altogether. Nowadays, Sega and Nintendo seem to get on just fine - so much so in fact that Mario and Sonic have appeared in a series of games together, the latest of which being 'Mario and Sonic at the ... more

The Mario and Sonic winter Olympic Games follows on from the 2008 summer game version but as always we seem to be backwards as we bought this game first, buying the summer version after all the enjoyment we got out of this one. I bought it for Christmas two years ago and what a fantastic time it gave us. We had a house full that year with a large range of ages and every one of us had so much fun with this game. We even managed to get my mum up and she gave it a go which is a miracle! The game has a large range of games to play and you will find something everyone will enjoy. There is to cut ... more

4 Stars This Winter Wii Are Going To Vancouver Review with images 28/10/2009
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Some great events and a chance to dress your Mii up for winter.

Disadvantages Disadvantages This game will hold your attention, but for how long is a different matter.

With the Winter Olympics fast approaching it’s time for the old rival companies Nintendo and Sega to reunite for their third game outing together to feature characters from the two respective gaming series’ in the form of Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics. The game is the first in the range of various games that are being released to coincide with the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver and will be exclusive to the Wii and Nintendo DS, well after all Nintendo aren’t going to let Sony and Microsoft get their grubby little hands on their prize characters now are they. For those of you who ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dream events are a bit rubbish

Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games. Nintendo Wii ** Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games ** I received Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games for Christmas in 2009. Throughout my gaming life I have always enjoyed games based around the Olympics and being a big fan of winter sports in general made this a great gift to receive and also a nice surprise as I had somehow missed out on hearing about this one being released. Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games comes in a normal white Wii box, the size of a DVD case, contained inside the box is a game disc along with an ... more

Advantages Advantages lots of great sporting events, new players, fun multiplayer games

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none for me!

The Past As I have mentioned in past reviews, I grew up playing games on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), most of my favourite games when I was younger included my favourite plumbers Mario and Luigi and their dinosaur friend Yoshi, and of course Princess Peach, who always seems to be running into bad luck and getting captured by the villain in this game King Bowser. I spent hours trying to rescue the Princess in games such as Super Mario Bros 1, 2 and 3, Super Mario World 1 and 2, The Lost Levels and of course Mario 64 when Mario became for 'advanced' on the Nintendo 64 console ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of sports, can play with balance board, ability to play with a mii, dream events are fun.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No real story, Balance Board controls poorly on most mini-games, might get boring quickly.

First off, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is yet another mini-game collection. The Wii has seen a large amount of these types of games lately, so if yet another one is going to appear on the Wii then it had better be a good one. And that's the problem with this particular game. In no way is this game terrible, but it isn't that remarkable either. If it released on another console I might have been a bit more forgiving, however, on a console with such a large number of mini-game collections already there are probably quite a few collections out there already that surpass this game ... more

Advantages Advantages Great for kids and adults alike. Good multiplayer options.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Difficult to get the kids off it!

My six year old son and my five year old daughter love the new Mario & Sonic Olympic Winter Games. Already fans of the normal Olympic Games they were very keen to try this out. You can play individual winter sport games like Ski Jumping, Ski Cross, Speed Skating, Ice Skating etc. or you can take part in a Festival whereby you play all events from Opening to Closing Ceremonies to try to become the overall champion. There are also dream events which I find harder to see what is going on it but my children prefer and excel at!! Only dream ski cross and dream snowboard cross are available when you ... more
