3 Stars As The Sunsets A New Adventure Begins! Review with images 09/12/2011

Advantages Advantages The inclusion of the Werehog, variety in the gameplay and some decent sound effects!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Weak graphics, far too easy and no multiplayer!

SONIC UNLEASHED Sonic Unleashed is yet another game in the series of Sonic games that seem to have been around for a very long time. Sonic Unleashed is a platforming action game and is the 11th installment in the Sonic series. The game was developed by Sonic Team and published by SEGA. This is one of the first Sonic games to feature two different types of gameplay events which include daytime and nighttime. This is one of my favourite Sonic games but on the Xbox 360 and PS3 and this Wii version of the game isn't as good but I feel neither of them can compete with the older classic games. The ... more

Advantages Advantages Day levels are fast paced, well-designed and have excellent controls, great graphics

Disadvantages Disadvantages Werehog levels slow and frustrating, average story, Wii version missing some levels

Sonic Team haven't had the best of luck with the Sonic 3D games in the past decade, ranging from the apparently decent 'Sonic Adventure' on the Dreamcast to the abysmal 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2006'. Fortunately, the 2008 release Sonic Unleashed is a slight return to form after the latter disaster. We have the fast blue hedgehog with attitude zooming through 3D stages as Sonic fans have always begged for, but now interspersed with beat-em-up, action-based levels implemented. I'm a fan of both Sonic and beat-em-ups and decided the game was worth a shot. What I found is that there are few glimmers ... more

Advantages Advantages Day levels are lots of fun, easy to use controls (usually),

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some annoying sound effects, training misses out some needed controls, werehog levels are too long

Sega's new Sonic game, Sonic Unleashed, boasts both two dimensional and three dimensional game play as well as a brand new 'were-hog' style of level to have a go at. The game opens with a cut-scene aboard Eggman's ship in space, though I won't write what happens in it to avoid spoiling it for anyone. The graphics in the opening cut-scene were rather brilliant, and the animation was smooth and fluent too. The end of the cut-scene lands Sonic near a city called Apotos, and the game will proceed to present you with about five training levels, all of which are nice and short allowing you to speed ... more

Advantages Advantages High adrenaline, good story

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor gameplay, slow moving for a Sonic game

It has to be said, I’m a bit annoyed at Sega for this game. Don’t get me wrong, I think 30% of it is really worthwhile gaming, really reminiscent of the older Sonic Adventure games on Dreamcast and GameCube, but I feel the rest of it is utterly rubbish. I’m going to start with writing about the story. The story is really quite good, it’s a proper Sonic story: Dr. Robotnik trying to take over the world through some ancient power he has found by ripping the world apart, and Sonic’s job it to get the Earth back together again. The gameplay is an unfortunate downside. A curse put on Sonic means he ... more

Advantages Advantages sidescrolling bits and nice graphics

    Disadvantages Disadvantages everythign else

right...again we find sonic coming out of the dark to throw another attempt at fame in our faces only for us to shake it off and shun him for again falling overi n the dark drunk with delusions of grandure. Gameplay the sonic unleashed gameplay is split into to two sections, one being the normal speedy levels mixed in with side scrolling action, not to mention a few well placed loop de loops for flavour. The second being somethign similar to god of war only your a hairy werehog thing which in all honesty the game could just do without. story i'm really sorry but on a whole if your not seven ... more
