I have owned this mp3/cd for a few years now and I have to say I like the general idea, but after using an mp3 player I rued my purchase. Sony's latest offering is solid and durable, the idea is that you put 30 cd's onto one disk using the software. The software is awful! It took me a whole day to do 24 albums before realizing i had no CDRs left and had to start again the next day as there is no save feature. On the plus side though the player itself ...

The missing word in that sentence is ONLY...these compressed CD's can only be played through sony walkmans with ATRAC recording technology which makes it hard if you want to share your newly created mixes with friends. The same software also lets you make CD's containing loads of mp3 files ...

...the full software from the sony site (not just the simpleburn software) and it was fine - it lets you store your atrac music in a database of your tracks, and you can even play them on the pc which is a definite plus over the included simpleburn software. Also, the included earphones are a tad weak - I only know this as I had some expensive sony ones and when I tried those the sound was much more punchy - I didn't need the megabass on with the new ...

As for people complaining about volume, I think it's fine - they need to make sure they don't have the AVLS on (which limits the volume to a ridiculously low level to prevent hearing damage!) When i seen this player in the shop the first impression i got was Round, saucer like and easy to hold. I found it had Good sound especially with good head phones. The battery life is very strong compared to other players i have come accross. Line out for connecting to speakers. mp3 or atrac playback includes the folder system, easier to navigate through 100-200 songs on each cd.
