Advantages Advantages Sony Quality, Carl Zeiss lens, 12x optical zoom, BIG screen!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Battery life, large if you're used to compacts,

Firstly, the camera pictured top left on this page, comes in black and silver. I bought this camera as an upgrade to the trusty and superb Canon A75. I'd still have the old camera were it not for the fact that I popped into Jessops (superb camera shop) one Sunday afternoon a few weeks back… "Just for a look" definitely wasn't going to buy anything, but you know how the story goes! Looking in the brightly lit display cabinets a couple of cameras caught my eye, so had to have a closer look. The friendly shop assistant grabbed Sony's H2 & H5 for me to look at and get the feel of, the H2 is ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, good clear pictures.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Eats batteries, long time between flash photos.

I got this as a replacement for a DSC-H1 that was stolen, and the H1 was a 5 megapixel which I thought was good but this is 7 megapixels. You probably would not notice the difference, unless you print very large pictures. I picked the H1 originally because I wanted one with a good steady shot and was adivsed that the Sony was about the best on the market. I have not been disappointed with either the H1 or the H5. The controls are easy to use. The zoom is great, although it can try to be too clever and focus when you just want to take a quick shot - I have not managed to figure out all the ... more

Advantages Advantages Huge LCD Screen, impressive lens and zoom, great value for money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Battery Life not as long as i would have liked

The DSC-H5 is a wonderfully smart piece of technology from Sony, that in my opinion is leading in the 'value for money' category of digital cameras to date. Its sleek and stylish appearance only emphasises the photographic potential this clever little camera has. Initially whilst shopping for a new camera, the DSC-H5 was the only camera that stood out significantly in terms of class and design. Being able to use and test the camera out in the store was very helpful in reassuring my first impressions, and i fell in love with it, spending up to half an hour just fiddling about with all of its ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Size, Fantastic Zoom, Tons of Storage, Easy to Use, Big LCD

Disadvantages Disadvantages Uses up batteries fast, but uses standard AAA so easy to replace and charge

I love using this camera, it's fun and easy to use. Nice big LCD makes its easy to review your shots. The zoom is great, it's amazing how close up you can get to things that are far, far away. It's autofocus kicks in sometimes when you don't need it, but otherwise it's great. You can use different lenses, and it tells you when you have the lense cap on. You can zoom in really close and you can capture moving objects with it's rapid shutter, if your batteries are fully charged, the shutter gets sluggish when your batteries get low, but using regular AAA batteries you can easily find in just ... more

Advantages Advantages Zoom, quality of picture

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Shutter speed

This is an excellent product for the peson who is keen to get high quality shots for a minimum amount of effort as it is so simple to use. But also I imagine that it is feature packed enough to satisfy the more experienced photographer. The software that comes with it is not the best I have used but is useable and the calendar function is fantastic. My only criticism would be that the delay between hitting the button and the photio actually taking is sometimes a bit too long and that great shot can be missed. I would recommend this camera to all who need a good quality easy to use model at an ... more

Advantages Advantages one of the best ultra zoom camera

Disadvantages Disadvantages Downsides are few, they include a so-so continuous shooting mode.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 was released as the flagship of the ultra-zoom line. Along with the H2, it succeeds the H1, which had a solo release. The H5 has specifications worthy of its role: 7.1 megapixels on a 1/2.5-inch Super HAD CCD, a Carl Zeiss-branded 12x optical zoom lens with image stabilization, and 32 MB of internal memory. Aiming for the enthusiast market or consumers growing out of their automatic point-and-shoot models, it provides full manual control in a chunky SLR-shaped body. The camera can also accept conversion lenses and other accessories. The H5 also retains ... more
