Sony Cybershot DSC S40

Advantages: User Friendly
Disadvantages: Small internal memory

...a memory card from a sony shop. It is only 128mb, but that is enough for me since I don't even use up this amount of space. It holds around 73 photographs, which to alot of people probably wouldn't be enough space, but fortunately memory cards are cheaper now. At the time it cost me about £15 but now you can buy a 2gb card for that, which is alot more reasonable. The camera is fairly "sturdy" in size, weighing about 0.1kg and measuring 5.1*9.7*3.4cm ...
...newer cameras. I like to see these as positive attributes, as it means that it is less likely to break but on the other hand can be quite cumbersome to carry around. Overall, a good buy for someone who wants a camera with reasonable features and is not too complicated! ...

Disadvantages: Not much control for the true photographer

...WIth this in mind, this Sony fares well - the price I piad of £139.99 is now easy to beat both online and in high street stores. Second though for digital cameras I look for a trusted name. Some might argue that this represents an unnecessary brand loyalty that will cost me in the long run ... I argue the opposite. Having been stung frquently by the 'unknowns' I now stick to the knowns. Again, this Sony inspires a trust - Sony produce quality goods ...
...purchase of this camera. So, what do you get for your money. Surprisingly you get a well equipped point and click machine. There is little need to play with settings or think about anything other than the composition here - just point and click and enjoy the great results in a variety of lighting conditions. The camera is small and lightweight which makes it great for holidays and those occasions when you want to take a camera but don't want to ...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S40

Advantages: Compact design; fast response times; two continuous-shooting modes; strong battery life.
Disadvantages: Small LCD screen; limited manual settings; photos exhibit a slight softness; wrist-strap hook gets in the way.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S40 has an impressive range of features, including a 4.1-megapixel sensor, a Carl Zeiss 3X zoom lens, two burst modes, 640x480 video capture at 30fps, strong battery life, and fast response times. Shaped like a bar of soap, the Cyber Shot DSC-S40 is thicker than many other point-and-shoot models. The case allows a secure grip, which is especially important when you need to concentrate on your next photo. Measuring 3.9 by ...

You can toggle between multipoint and center-spot autofocus, which gives you some flexibility in composing shots. This model offers the same continuous-shooting modes as the Cyber Shot DSC-S90. Wow!!

Advantages: A small, stylish camera, easy to use even for beginners that takes good quality pictures
Disadvantages: LCD screen could be made bigger so you don't have to zoom in on images

...There has been warnings from Sony that there is a problem with some of the LCD sceens which makes them go blank and although this camera isn't on the list for this occuring, there has been incidents. I think if this does happen everything will still work by pressing buttons alongside the user manual so you know which mode you're changing etc... Contact Sony before you buy incase you're worried of this happening to you. Hope this helps! ...

What a shot!

Advantages: Easy to use, 32MB internal RAM, 3 x Optical Zoom,Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens
Disadvantages: LCD display is only 1.5", Batteries don't last very long

...camera and with it being Sony it is really good quality too. I bought this as a present for my partner after spending several hours searching the internet for the best product at a price i could afford. I must say i tend to use it more than he does. The camera is packed full of features, including 4.1 Megapixels, 3x Optical Zoom, up to 10x Smart Zoom, 6x Precision Digital Zoom. The camera also has Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens and MPEG video mode ...
...are anything like me, when you first get something new you use it quite a lot and they didnt last very long at all. I would recommend investing in some rechargable batteries or at least several spares. The picture quality is good. Ample for what an amature photographer would require. There is also the option to switch between different effects, such as black & white, negative, sepia etc. There are many options enabling you to change the settings ...

It's a movie camera

Advantages: movie mode
Disadvantages: memory stick are relatively expensive

I was pleasantly surprised when I read the manual and discovered it could take movies complete with sound. It may not have the quality of a camcorder but for recording those special moments it's great. For ordinary photos the resolution is perfectly adequate and you can fill the monitor screen with a quarter of the frame and still have perfectly good resolution. I've never generally had any problem with exposure but even with a dark shot it can ...

Cybershot, good for the beginner

Advantages: Size and 4 megapixel camera
Disadvantages: Image quality, zoom, screen size, settings

This camera would be good for someone that doesnt know much about using digital cameras, or cant afford a top of the range one. I got this camera about a year ago after thinking it was the best one in the catalogue where i purchased it from. Boy was i wrong. Im not that impressed to be fairly honest. The images dont come out very well, and the zoom is terrible. Also it doesnt have auto-focus, so if your taking photos of something thats likely to ...

Sony Cyber-Shot

Advantages: Great pictures and compact
Disadvantages: None

This camera is ideal for someone who wants a high quality digital camera, that's small enough to carry around without worrying about losing or breaking it. It's big enough so you don't feel like you're in danger of accidentaly snapping it and feels sturdy and reliable. It has fantastic settings to help you get the most out of your surroundings, the snow/bright white settings and night portraits options are particulary handy for ensuring perfect photos. ...
...as you change the setting of the picture you can see the setting take change when viewing through the screen, if you are unsure which setting to choose. There's also an auto-setting for those who can't be bothered to change this each time. The battery life is also impressive, it takes two AA batteries which have lasted me over Christmas and a long weekend away without needing replaced. ...

Great Value for Performance

Advantages: Great Value, high definition picture quality
Disadvantages: Cannot be hooked up to TV

...ideal buy. Like most of sony products, it is easy to use and is of great quality. You can snap photographs in seconds. There is also a great movie mode. So you can make some good movies at 30 fps. This means the movies are full motion and do not seem jerky .... However, if you do not have the camera mounted on a stand your hands motions may create dizzying pictures. So be careful :-) 90% of the time, you would want to take pictures at 1Mega Pixel ...
...500k. So essentially, the internal memory can take upto 64 images if not more. However, if you get a Memory stick card of atleast 256Mega bytes, you can store over 500 images in the camera. One point of caution. I did not see a direct interface to connect to TV. Nor was any cable provided except USB for PC communications. So if you wanna hook it upto a TV, look for some other camera. ...
