Advantages: Great performance, adequate zoom, good quality lens and resolution, good colour balance, nice design, compact package, easy controls. Disadvantages: Not the best battery life(carry a spare), flash seemed weedy+vulnerable, Memory Stick slow and expensive, auto white balance not always right
~~~~~~Intro~~~~~~
Sony has got quite a reputation for quality when it comes to its digital camera range. Their DV recorders are always of the highest quality (TRV 60E and above IMO) and their still cameras keep up the brand strength. The F717 was a very good camera too, and whilst sony can't quite beat canon overall, this camera was still very good and competitive. Sadly, it was huge! So, enter the V1. With the V1, Sony has acknowledged the needs ... ...still not sold on the sony styling of this camera. I liked the G5's stocky build quality, but fortunately the sony still has much of the same quality. Where it is really lacking however is the lack of the 5400s nice hand grip. Sadly, there really is not enough room for it given the viewfinder (the sony label barely fits!). Hence we just have the compact ridge to hold onto. Pictures of this camera make it look far more cheaper and made of plastic ...
...use), Mains Charger.
The Sony DSC-V1 Cyber-shot is compact, light, extremely fast, and gives great results, which is a perfect combination for discreet street photography. It looks and handles like a professional camera should, is targeted to demanding serious amateur photographers and occasional photographers who want greater quality and control from their camera, and features the full set of flexible exposure controls and shutter settings. Though ... ...as is typical of a Sony product, its controls are very user-friendly. The only two things you may have to get used to is to avoid putting your left finger on the pop-up flash, if you choose to operate with two hands and get properly oriented with the up-down (instead of left-right) zoom lever. For flexible exposure control, you can switch to one of the scene modes, Aperture-Priority, Shutter-Priority or full Manual mode. However, it's easy to get ...
...note that there is a Sony guarantee for two years.
This camera is very snazzy! It is made from a magnesium alloy with a plasticy bottom, which doesn't look tacky at all. The plastic part looks good and also it is scratch resistant. You can still scratch the magnesium, so please be careful! The camera is very light (200g) and it can fit in your pockets. It can zoom in X4 optical, which isn't too good for a camera like this, but it is fine. If you ... ...this camera, you need a Sony memory stick, which you can buy in places like Argos and Amazon.co.uk. The sticks used to be overpriced, but now they are a lot less. If you would like more memory and you aren't a serious photographer, I recommend you get a 64MB or a 128MB stick, as these can hold up to 100 good quality pictures.
This is a lame-man's professional camera. I really recommend this. It will last you for a long time and the quality never ...
Advantages: Excellent image quality, small size compared to competition, 4x zoom, decent video mode. Disadvantages: Photo quality not quite as good as "big lens" cameras.
...scratches), the sort of material Sony use for their top MD/CD players, and it's extremely durable, as well as giving the unit a smart, smudge-proof look.
Post-processing of images inside the camera (before they're saved and you view them etc) is minimal - which gives the photos a rather plain look compared to the bright bursty sort of photos you might get with a Canon using the same CCD. This could either be a good or bad thing, depending on how ... ...- it tends to retain more sharpness in images and I can always do the post processing myself once the photos are on my PC!
Loads of manual options, as you'd expect in this price range! I think this camera fills a nice sweet spot in the market at £450 - shopping around you'll see that anything cheaper's not really in the professional realm quality-wise, and anything more expensive is *quite* a bit more expensive and a lot bigger! ...
Advantages: automatic, manual settings,built in flash,zoom,5 mega pixels. Disadvantages: Battery life short,slow warm up and shut down.
...the manual settings on the Sony give you plenty of scope being able to change shutter and aperture settings. Having said that the automatic settings are excellent and cope with most conditions from snow to night scenes.
Picture quality is excellent which you would expect from the Carl Zeiss lens.
The movie setting gives reasonable quality moving clips with sound although not the best i've seen when filming fast action such as sport, as the focus ... ...sensing when to fire and can also be manually controlled and provides really good fill in flash for scenes where shadows are a problem. The results are very natural.
The zoom provides a wide angle which makes landscapes more dramatic. The zoom is adequate for portraits but is limited if you are thinking of wildlife or bird photography.
Downloading images is easy with USB lead just plug in and away you go. Memory sticks are getting cheaper. Well ...
Advantages: Small, capable, excellent pictures Disadvantages: A bit too clever!
...I have to say Sony have done a good job with this
- It's easy to take very good pictures
- It's got a big viewing screen to view & zoom in on images
- It's very eay to get the images off the camera
- Great flash, red eye reduction, time delay features.
If anything, it's just a bit too much for me being a novice- the more sophisticated features require you to read a manual- if you don't use the camera very often this is a pain. It's just not ...
I bought mine over a year ago and I'm very pleased. I took already thousands of pictures and it's still in great shape! I like mostly the fine pictures I can take with it in the auto mode, though we can try different exposures and all stuff! It has most of what pro cameras have, but in a very compact set!
The only disadvantages I see are the small zoom, and the time that sometimes the flash takes to recharge!
The nighframing is very usefull, so ...
