...to test and prove that Sony DSC W55 has the "x-factor" - topping the digital chart. The model hit the market in the early of 2007 and I bought it in April of that year. My brother influenced me to buy this unit after I have used his W70 model when I forgot to bring the battery charger of my old Olympus IR500 during my short visit to the Philippines. There are no major differences in the functionality between these two models (W70 and W55), except ... ...features and minor inconveniences of Sony DSC W55?===
1. Accident happens and I dropped this unit several times. Due to its compactness and exterior finishing metal casing, it does not really make a mark from the hard fall. Even the wide screen, only slight scratches are noticeable and not affecting the quality of the photos. Because of its lightness, weighing 116 grams, the unit can easily carry inside the pocket or in small compartments of a backpack. ...

Sleek and sexy the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 will not leave you scratching around looking for ways to pay the rent, it only cost me £131 and as soon as I pulled it from its box I knew I had stumbled on an absolute gem of a camera. The picture above does actually do the camera a lot of justice if you look closely. It is onbviously silver, but it has more of a stainless steel finish and coupled witht he light weight and relatively small dimensions it ... ...is.
Like most cameras, the cyber-shot has an screen rather thana treditional viewfinder. I think this feature as it means I can take pictures from greater heights or different angles without having to bend or stretch. Pictures are taken using 7.2 mega pixels and this results in unrivalled quality with perfect images every time. Even in the darkest of settings the flash light sthe scene up like a christmas tree.
Not only is the cyber-shot a digital ...

...much cheaper (but still decent) Sony S40. This is streets ahead; the screen is great. 2.5 inches sounds small but the quality is second to none. The external finish is silky smooth and the size and shape feels right.
There are many settings that you can adjust but for me (something of a photography 'n00b') the real strength of this camera is the many presets (e.g. twilight, portrait, landscape etc.) Flash is more than adequate and very easy to change ... ...battery. I've always found Sony batteries to be very good. the one in my laptop is still strong after nearly 4 years and my (analogue!) camcorder battery is as good now as the day I bought it - 6 years ago. Strange thing with this is that you have to take the battery out of the camera and use a small external charger (provided). I may get a spare, although if I do it is more likely that I will use Amazon than Sony . . .
Overall I am very pleased ...

Advantages: good battery life, excellent picture quality, big screen Disadvantages: --
A very good camera, well worth the money:
Chose this camera based on reviews from this sight, and they were all correct. The performance is good, the battery life is excellent (around 360 shots) and with 7.2 megapixels, the picture quality is almost perfect. The internal memory is adequate, but for holidays i did find an extra memory card came in handy.
The camera is lightweight and easily portable, fitting into most pockets. The screen is a brilliant ... ...easy to see.
There are different settings, each coming in handy at some point.
Twilight - shoots low light scene without a flash
Portrai t- shoots portraits in high detail
Beach - shoots water side scene with rich blue colour
Snow - shoots whitish scenes brightly Soft snap - shoot subject with soft background
Landscape - shoots landscapes
Movie - shoots movies with audio
There is also an automatic setting which adjusts automatically to the ...

Advantages: reasonable price, good megapixels, looks hot, sturdy and reliable, bright flash, easy to use Disadvantages: poor internal memory, no really unusual features
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 is a testament to how far digital cameras have gone. At well under £150, the camera makes a wide range of features available for a very reasonable price.
It's true that the megapixel isn't the highest you can get without an SLR camera, but the 8 megapixel or more market really isn't necessary for all but the most professional photographers (who will probably want an SLR camera anyway).
The screen is a generous 2.5 inches, ... ...(don't be misled by reviews to the contrary). Colour and clarity on the LCD screen are particularly good. The 3x zoom is standard, but - and I know this is a very geeky comment - the controls are a joy to use. Even the buttons are smooth. Further specification includes anti-blur ISO technology, and I was also pleased by the brightness of the flash, and the capacity to record MPEG films. They're only short, and the reduced quality means that you'll ...

Advantages: Cheap, small and light, bright pictures Disadvantages: small LCD, no microphone built-in, get a better camera for just £50
...is time to give a Sony a new opportunity
Is this a good camera or what?, well, its a cheap, light and small camera, but it can't get 5 out of 5.
Playing around with the camera I realize it doesn't have a microphone built-in, so there is no way to record sound in video mode, don't try to use these feature if you are serious about video, but why do they put this options if you can't hear anything?
The LCD display is 2.5" with a display format of ... ...a 3" LCD and 230,000 pixels, I know it is a cheap camera, but after a while you'll be thinking about the 3", believe me!

I bought this product about two weeks ago and i have found that the picture quality is very clear and good picture quality for the amount spent.

Quick review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55
Excellent camera well worth it's price range and fabulous value for money, excellent picture quality shots taken on 7.2 pixels and also the litherium battery has fantastic stamina for even the most happiest of snappers, even on zooming in, the detail on pic quality is amazing which is very good for when you want to capture distant snaps, only draw backs was on the night vision mode and poor lighting shots taken with bright coloured lighting in poor light came up very shaky and blurry. I would also advised you to get at least 2GB memory card which will give you 500 to 1000 shots and 20mins approx clip footage. All in all this camera is definately worth buying. ...
