Advantages: Small and portable Disadvantages: No LCD and difficult to find a permant home for
The Sony 'PICOT' as it's is called is a small stylish DVD player. It is very small in size as you can see from the picture which allows you to pick it up and plug it into any TV in the house or somebody elses.
It's silver in colour and for those who like nokia phones you can change the front facia insert. ( 3 supplied and you can D/L from the net)
The unit can play back DVD, CD, VCD, SVCD and MP3 (Menu scroll function on telly). It supports disks ... ...moving from room to room. Sony have saved money by using the clunky toilet lid disc opening rather than a silky smooth drawer and there is no LCD screen which is a bit of a problem when playing a CD. The design does not allow you to place it TV cabinets very easily either.
I bought this player as a second DVD player for the household and this little baby cost. a staggering £39.99 from Amazon. RRP is 109.99 i belive.
It's a excellent litlle player ...

...Setting up the Sony player should prove simple, even to a newcomer to the DVD market, the power supply is clearly marked and connects to a standard wall power outlet, and despite the numerous visual/audio inputs, the wires on the scart lead are colour coded. I did find however with my unit, that the scart lead supplied was not very durable, as the connectors to the television broke after a couple of months use, and did require the purchase of a specific ... ...so unless you have a Sony television dont throw out the old remote! On the unit itself only play, stop and previous/next scene buttons are present, along with the power button, but remote control supplied with the unit is simple and easy to use, with only the necessary buttons, all nicely sized, so that no-one should be intimidated by the controls.
The price of the unit, as of writing this review, is typically in the region of £99.99 from many highstreet ...

Advantages: Small and compact Disadvantages: Not as stylish as most DVD players
This is what to expect from such a well know company, with such a good reputation. I bought this a few months ago to use as a DVD player in my room, so that i didnt have to keep transporting the one from downstairs all the time. If you're like me and dont have the space to keep a big box next to the TV then this is great instead of a standard size one. The size is the main reason i bought it, because my room is cluttered and if I had anything else ... ...wondeful. I have taken it round a few friends houses that don't have a DVD player so that we could watch some movies. It is easy to transport, all you need to do is unplug it from the TV and pop it in your pocket. Just joking it's not that small. The quality that the player produces is brilliant considering the size of it. The quality is just as good as my Hyundai one downstairs. You can make your own fascias for it but I dont do that, but it would ...

...Overall, in my opinion, the Sony DVPPQ2 brings a fresh look and style to the compact DVD player market, offering ease of use, customisable , and a high quality of picture and sound. Full support of MP3, CD and CD-R/RW playback for music is also offered, as well as the standard DVD playback, helping to make the price a competitive one in todays market. ...

...and pictures recorded on a Sony camcorder. Though on a few occasion it stopped working after extensive use. Leaving it to cool down for a while seems to fix the problem.
On the installation side, I did not bother reading the instruction the remote is self-explanatory and simple to use. The machine is what could be discribed as plug'n'play. I recomend it for people not keen on overly complicated technology.
It is nicely designed and I had visitors ...
