I remember when I first purchased the Nokia 3210, it was new then and not everyone had it. It was state of the art, it was small, light and it turned heads. Now it seems it’s as common as muck. Well not that far. A few months ago, after having my Nokia for just over a year I decided to get a new phone. The 3310 put me off, it seemed as if too many people were getting it and I wanted something a bit more unique. Not that I’m vain like that, I just wanted something a little different. I went to the contract phones, which offered a lot more variety in terms of quality and features ... more

1st Phone I would consider getting again.. never have i had a phone that I liked so much.. it is small, light, sexy, and has every feature that you could ever want on a phone. * It holds in the region of 500 numbers. * The display is a great size. * It is small * sms * predictive txt * It is Light * It goes un-noticed on the inside pocket of a suit (no bulges) * Excellent Battery Life * Roller Navigation (Only sony could think of that on a phone) * I have dropped it, sat on it etc etc and it is still in very good condition * 20 second memo voice recorder (I have a message from fergie the DJ on ... more

Advantages Advantages Stylish, unique features, easy to use jog-dial functionality, in-built answerphone, WAP and POP e-mail access

Disadvantages Disadvantages No Infra-red capability to link to a PDA or PC.

Occasionally I am surprised by a new product. The Sony Z5 didn't surprise me. It simply lived up to my high expectations. It is one unique, powerful little phone. Initially you are drawn in by the sheer style of the handset - it's the sort of phone you want to put on the table in front of you when you go down the pub. But underneath the polished chrome exterior lies probably the most user friendly interface Ive come across. The jog dial is a revelation allowing you to access all of the menu features easily using one hand. Once you've discovered that the dial can be pushed back as well as in ... more

My friend has the Sony CMD-Z5 -a sleek well designed phone and I couldn't wait to check it out. I swapped with him for a week as an experiment. I like Nokia phones they're reliable and look good. However I want something different to everyone, hate to follow the crowd you know... The Sony CMD-Z5 is the most well thought out, feature packed phones I've ever used. It is compact, with a flip design covering the keys and half of the screen. The flip is active, meaning it starts and ends calls when you open it. The phone weighs about the same as a Nokia 8210 (a phone that I'm thinking of getting ... more

I have had my Sony CMD-Z5 for about a month or so now, and I love it! The sleek design and anti-scratch, anti-mark silver finish make it an eye catching accessory, as well as a powerful communications device. I'd had my eye on the Z5 for a while and decided to upgrade on my existing One2One tariff. If you are thinking of upgrading, it's well worth having an open chat with someone from your existing network's customer service team. Competition in the mobile market is fierce, and you may be able to get an incentive to stay with your network if you have already completed your minimum contract ... more

At the time of writing, the Sony Z5 is listed as being the top rated mobile phone here at Ciao. I've recently sent mine back, very disappointed, wondering how anyone can bear to use it. Let me explain. For the first half an hour or so of usage, I was thinking 'this is the best mobile phone ever made!', I was taken in by the size of the thing, the lovely silver coating, the beautiful greyscale screen, and the intuitive navigation that the advanced jog dial provides. In general, the hardware, although beautiful (and tiny) leaves a lot to be desired. The way the plastic creaks as you change the ... more

My Mitsubishi Astral was in dire need of replacement so I decided to start looking for a new handset. After much wandering around the multitude of phone shops I decided to plump for the Sony CMD-Z5 at £49.99 with the Vodafone Leisure 200 tariff (14.99 amonth with 200 off peak minutes free). What I didn’t realise was though just how impressed I was going to be with this tiny little powerhouse. Weighing in at about 84 grams this phone has plenty of features to enjoy. The actual phone is only the size of a credit card and has a good strong hinge for the flip cover. This cover serves an ... more

Nokia are well known for making world class mobile phones. Time after time they churn out another model that supersedes all other mobile phones. They become fashion icons that everyone must have , even 10 year olds splash out the sometimes hundreds of pounds on these phones. But what is it that makes them so successful? Well Sony seem to of discovered just that. And provide a solution to tackle the Nokia mobiles. It's known as the CMD-Z5, Sony's latest run off of the product line. To start with, it's a very small phone, lightweight, and easy to hold. It is around 90mm in size and it weighs in ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor ringtones, easy to lose!

This statement has never held more truth! Being an avid user of Nokia products, I was finally torn from my ailing 3210 after, what has to be said, was a wholly satisfying period of use. Normally a sceptic of phones with a flip (I am a little too exuberant with my handsets!) I was drawn to the Z5 by its wide range of features, ultra-compact size, and the reputation of Sony as a quality manufacturer of electronic goods. Initially, the phone took some getting used to, as the explanation for the use of the jog dial was somewhat insufficient. The on-screen reminders of where to find different ... more

What can I say it’s a mobile phone and its made by Sony. The first thing you will notice is its look. Its very ickle at 82g, second only to the Nokia 8210. The Sony CMD-Z5 is the best designed and cool looking phones...ever. It is about the same size as a credit card, although it won't quite fit into your wallet! So apart from the fact that it looks cool it is packed with many features: vibration, a clock, calendar, voice memos, T9 predictive text input, 2 games (fishing and clay pigeon shooting), a stylish charger, Microsoft Mobile Explorer, a 6 line display, 3 and a half hours of talk ... more
