...because I've never had a Sony Ericsson, and the number pad is really different (with a more QWERTY set up, rather than 1=ABC, 2=DEF etc. Also, as mentioned before, typing on the little keyboard that pops up when texting is quite difficult - as the buttons are too small. I think that the layout of the keys (2 letters per button, pushing the left or right side of the button) is a function that should probably be dropped by the phone, as I think it ... ...you would get used to it - again, with time. Apart from all this, I think it's easy to get used to, and it's well laid out, without too much confusion.

The sound quality of the phone is pretty good. It's really clear to hear other people speaking from the other side of the telephone, and from the other end, the voice is clear too.

...of the P Series from Sony Ericsson. I owned a P910, followed by two P990's. Now I own the P1i.
I've been told that this is not the follow on from the P990, and that another "flip" phone will be joining the P Series shortly. However, since there is no confirmation of that, I feel the need to in parts compare this with the P990.
For those who previously owned, or currently own a P990, I'm sure you would have encountered quite a few problems in regards ... ...with firmware updates, but was still less reliable than it should have been.
The P1i shows massive improvements in this area. I have had this phone for almost 3 weeks now, and have only experienced one instance in which my phone was restarted to improve performance. ...It is very similar to Sony Ericssons previous offering (P990i) in many ways but has a much more sleek and stylish loiok about it. Below are the features that it includes that I personally have used and are able to comment on, please bear in mind that it includes other features also but if I have not used them, or have used them little then I will not comment on them as I cannot tell you of the full benefit they offer.
Screen - The P1i offers a large ... ...with all of the best Sony Ericsson walkman phones the P1i comes with the top of the range music player including the equaliser setting to adjust bass boost or treble etc, and it also has an artwork area so if you load the album artwork onto the phone for your albums this will be displayed while the album is playing. The earphones that are supplied with the phone are not the best and can be quite loose but you can always upgrade and buy another pair ...

...a long time fan of Sony Ericsson phones and a user of a variety of models, I was admittedly apprehensve about taking the plunge into "smart phone" territory. These fears were soon put to rest however, as the P1 really is a phone that, once you get used to, does everything you could want. As a sucessor to the highly innovative P900 series, it is well aimed at the business user rather than the casual user, I recall the looks of astonishment and curiosity ... ...of time. Features wise, Sony really have crammed in a lot to the P1. Some are good and some are not so good. The big bonus for me was the built in wifi, which meant i could connect to my work or home wireless and have full speed internet on the move. This was however when i worked out that it will only connect to an unsecured connection or one with a 64bit WEP key. It wont support higher securirty protocols so bear that in mind. SonyEricsson has launched new P-series smartphone P1i.
At the moment this SE smartphone is a leader and a simple flgman,combining style,features and quality.
After unsuccessful SE M600, P1i will be frustrating for most of the users,who hate M600.
Nevertheless, SE P1i is much better and easier to operate.
Of course, P1i`s QWERTY keyboard is shoking at the beginning(my suggestion - try and test hard your P1i before purchase!),but couple of hours ... ...a serious buisness phone - nothing extra here,on first view,but take a look again,and you`ll see magnificend job of designer!Everything combines as it should!
Even the size of the phone doesn`t feels!It was a nice surprise to me.
All the features are right for buisiness and a bit of relax/leisure.
This Symbian OS 9 UIQ3 phone has just EVERYTHING!

...thing to note on the Sony Ericsson P1i is the large 2.6" 240x320 pixel TFT display - this is now a transflective panel which means that it can be read more easily outdoors.
The Sony Ericsson P1 is a 3G Symbian smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard which can be regarded as a replacement for the troubled Sony Ericsson P990i
On the back it has a 3.2 megapixel (yes a 3.2) with auto focus and flash. it has a 160mb internal memory and can be replaced with ... ...the Sony Ericsson P1i doesn't support HSDPA, and also the tri-band GSM/single band UMTS network support is a little limiting.
The Sony Ericsson P1i is only a little larger and heavier than the M600 at 106 x 55 x 17mm and 124 grams. Battery life is quoted as 10 hours talk/18 days standby on GSM, 3.5 hours talk/14 days standby on 3G. ...

The phones got more than expected. I always wanted a phone that is smart enough to me.
Hardware: Good quality, nice silverish metal casing combined with black color, big screen and nice attention to details.
Software: Nice bundled software included such as the ability to open and edit word document, excel document, open PDF document, synchronization software works with windows, adobe photo manager, hassle free setup, 3G connection setup, backup ... ...Never again you store the business card in which you will throw it away somewhere or just misplaced it.
It is come with a price you can resist, but the price it self worthy the usage of the phone. If you are a regular user of internet, checks email, editing file and send them in the go, and browsing websites is just a click away! ...

...famous brand, I reverted to Sony Ericsson P1i and am extremely happy about it.
Difficult to enumerate all the features...too many. It is a smartphone that perfectly balances work and leisure.
Its touchscreen and hand writing recognition and the wide range of office applications makes it as powerful as a pda. In general the interface is very easy, intuitive and cool.
Its messaging editing is very smart and allows to write messages with word recognition ... ...and compared to its competitors, it never crashes ( I tried hard, but IT NEVER CRASHES!). Very good is the Sony Ericsson PC SUite, containing sync and useful applications to make the mobile a mobile office.
Also, its alluminium shell is quite solid.
I guess I found the best mobile. ...

The P series from SE has always been the latest in innovative and wow factor technology and this phone is no different.
Being a fan and owner of each P series device since the P800 i can safely say that this is a great step forward from the P990 and in many ways is a more stable and more mobile device.
I use this phone on a daily basis using most functions including Wifi, GPRS, CAMERA, Touchscreen, Bluetooth and card reader and the battery life is amazing if charged when needed and used properly.
There are many competitors in the market and hiding away in this gadget is the same processing power as the n95, how ever, its much older?!

The P1i is a smarthphone packed with features. It operates on 3G and uses a touch screen.
Right from the off this phone caters to business heads. With Wifi, it lets you connect directly to wireless networks and the twin cameras let you make the most of 3G video calling. The camera is impressive and is 3.2megapixel with a great flash. One interesting feature is the business card scanner, which lets you take a picture of a business card and it grabs ... ...new contact.
The downside to this phone is that it is difficult to use. setting up Wifi can be quite time-consuming and doing fairly simple things can take longer than expected even though the phone is quite fast.
Another downside is that the battery life does not last that long, probably because of all its connectivity features and the giant screen.
All in all, there probably are better smart phones out which are easier to use with the same features. ...
