...older version and has had Sony Erricsons before so I knew from him that Sony Erricson phones are a reliable brand. Something which is essential for me as I have had bad experiences with Motorola and LG phones in the past. The W850i is one of their walkman phones and so amongst other features it has a pretty good walkman. I'm a big on my music so getting this phone saved me from replacing my broken MP3 player, bargain!!!
According to the Sony Ericsson ... ...Well I've never had a Sony Ericsson before so I can tell you from a newbie's point of view that this phone is simple and self explanatory. With the exceptions of typing you can access and use most features by using the soft keys without opening the phone. Some of the features like the video DJ take a bit of getting used to but it's not really all that difficult.

Basically what the SE W850i tries to be is a decent MP3 player combined with a mobile phone and something approaching a digital camera. Well it also has an attempt at being a video iPod too - strange but true. SE know though that the main competition at the moment is in the MP3 and music market so that's where they've aimed.
The phone looks ... ...want to buy an official Sony one. It will set you back around £22 in the right places for a Sandisk version.

...phone were; 1. It's a Sony Ericsson (I'm a bit of a fan) 2. The MP3 player - after owning the W800i which has a great MP3 player I wasn't prepared to have another phone without one. Well what can I say, Sony have done it again, with this magnificant mobile phone.
I upgraded my mobile phone just recently, as my old phone was a little dated, but when I received this phone I thought wow, what a looker of a phone.
There are so many features on the phone, I still have not used all of them, the 2 megapixel camera is brilliant for taking pictures, I no longer have to carry a camera around with me if I want to take pictures, and I ... ...itself is very slimline for the features it has, considering how large mobile phones used to be, the size of a brick in some cases, you wouldnt' think that all those features could be in one little mobile phone.
I love the music and radio function it has on it, I have got loads of albums on my phone, and I have not used up all my memory yet, no where near, so I dont know for certain how much music it can hold, but I can listen to all my favourite ...

I got this phone about two months ago now and I have found it to be excellent. It is on contract with 3, and I get 1200 minutes a month for the first 6 months with 800 texts and then 600 minutes and 400 texts a month there after for only £22.50 a month. I have found this contract so far is working well...Anyways, back to the actual phone itself...
I currently have the phone in black, however if you happen to take out a contract with vodafone you ... ...think looks much nicer! The phone is described as a slide phone, which has its good and its bad points, the good thing is, you are less likely to press buttons when the phone is in your pocket, and the bad thing is, its easy to hang up on someone by mistake when you are on the phone to them! The Sony Ericsson W850i is easily the best phone I have ever owned - but that is not saying much. Until recently I was the ashamed owner of some weird Motorola brick from Superdrug which I had bought to replace it's broken, uninsured predecessor, the even more embarrassing Nokia 9600. Finally my contract with the abonimation that is the "3" network expired and I was free to choose any phone I wanted. So I ended up with this amazing phone on O2 and ... ...than all the other new Sony Ericssons in my opinion). I won't go on about that though as you can see a picture of it on this page and you can go into any shop and have a look at the real thing if you want to. So from here on I'll describe all the functions that I have discovered so far.

The Sony Ericsson W850i was the first mobile phone that I have ever opted to buy for the quality of the features rather than just on how well it coped as a mobile phone, and for this I paid £29.99 from the Carphone Warehouse on a contract with Orange. Bear with me as I explain why. I don't have an I-pod of any other MP3 players and I find it embarrassing sitting on trains with a huge CD walkman so this was ideal. The fact that it also incorporates ... ...was also a major factor when it came to parting with my pennies.
The W850i is very small and fits in the palm of my hand without any trouble at all which makes carrying it around not too cumbersome. Tehnical details: it has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels offering you a clear wide image , it has 256 000 colors . th eringphones can be : mp3, aac or polyphonic (40 channels ) . The camera resolution is 2mb .it has gprs class 10 , bluetooth v2.0,infrared, and 3G. The phone adressbook can handle up to 1000 entries. you can add a memory card: Memory Stick ... ...right corner there is the sony ericsson logo. on the lower part of the back there are four little circles that give a round and modern aspect to he back of the phone . You can do most things with the phoned unslided , but if you want to dial a number that is not in your agenda or play a game that requires more than 6 buttons you will have to slide it .

...who are not used to Sony Ericssons the battery display dosn't just have 3 or 4 bars to tell you the state of the battery it gives a much more accurate reading than that. The menu has 12 icons laid out in 3 rows of 8 with good icons which tell you which icon does what (this will change with different themes as long as you have a phone provider that allows it). The slide action on this phone is very smooth, especially after using it for a few weeks ... ...two sliding halfs, i am afraid to say though i have tried a few of the Samsung slide phones and they are better but what do you expect, after all this is Sony's first slide phone where as samsung have been doing slide phones for years.
The camera is a bit of a let down, its lost the auto focus function from some of the older walkman phones and the quality isnt as good, this is comparing it to the fist walkman phone the W800.

...no auto focus as on Sony Ericsson's previous models however. The video recorder is also very good quality and there is software included so you can view the videos on your computer. The images and videos are very easy to organise. You can make and name new folders and move songs, videos and pictures into them making it easy to find the picture or video you are looking for.
Screen & Keypads
The screen is very good. 2 inch 262,144 colour TFT 240x320 ... ...it sounds, lol. It is very crisp and clear and the colours are very strong. Apparently it has a light sensor that adjusts to the lighting conditions of where you are. Pictures and videos can be viewed landscape which looks very good as the screen is bigger than most other phones. Games can be played in landscape but this is awkward due to the fiddly keypad. ...long as expected from other Sony Ericssons although still quite good. You can only lock the phone while the slider is closed by pressing (not holding) the turn off button and selecting lock. It does not have a 'automatic lock function'- the keypad locks after a certain amount of time.

I got this as an upgrade from my W810i. It seemed like the logical progression, ... ...more. I put my memory card in it to see what it was like playing tracks. The walkman isn't as easy to navigate as my W810, but it sounds great and it does this really cool thing where the front lights up bright orange and pulsates in time to the music. I then went to change the theme because the colours and icons looked kind of ugly. I had hoped that the walkman theme would be the nice sunny orange one with the cool little icons that are on the w800 ...
