Sony - The Best Flat Screen

Advantages: Free to air Digital programmes. Excellent picture
Disadvantages: B*****y heavy!! (62kg) Be careful what you sit it on.

...that way too. The Sony has several picture formats that you can "scroll" through, from normal 4:3 to the interim 14:9 (useful for all those programmes with a thin stripe top and bottom, 16:9, "Smart", which almost lives up to its name, although it doesn't always get it right, and zoom. This last option allows even 4:3 programmes to be "best-fitted" to your precious new screen - after all, who wants to buy a wide set, and look at black stripes down ...
...Sound is of limited use to me, as I am in the throes of upgrading my hi-fi to AC3 for the digital output from my DVD player, and my TV sits dead-centre between my speakers, but not SO close as to encounter the screen distortions mentioned by Dave. Even if the smart card for ON Digital can now be put in the machine, I shan't be ditching my set-top box, because this gives me two tuners, so that I can overcome the "you can't watch another channel when ...

Flawed masterpiece

Advantages: Excellent picture, packed with high quality capabilities.
Disadvantages: Unreliable software, poor reception of free-to-air digital broadcasts. Very slow switching between digital and analogue sources.

...December 1999 I purchased a Sony KV32DS60 TV to replace my older Sony TV. I wanted a larger widescreen TV with integrated digital receiver (I have too many tv/hifi boxes already). I no longer have this TV and am hesitant about replacing it with any Sony IDTV. Hooking up to a Sony DVD and Sony VCR was straightforward using Scart. The smartlink feature works well. The hookup advice in the VCR manual conflicts slightly with the TV manual (TV manual ...
...this time both OnDigital ad Sony repeatedly said it would be available in a month or so. A contacter came to upgrade the software and was unsure how to do so because his instructions required a digital signal (e.g. via digibox?). I never found out if the software had been succesfully upgraded. A few weeks ago, the colours in the picture became very bad. green and red blotches appearing on people's faces. The set went back to the retailer's nominated ...

Absolutely Stunning...

Advantages: Just The Best Picture on this Earth.
Disadvantages: Expensive, no digi-teletext/de-scrambler on board.

...expensive. So, just get a Sony WEGA! They are awesome. The picture detail and colour rendition on these TVs just beats the competition hands down... Sony invented them, so they should know how to make the best of them. I got my 32-DS60 the day it came out, and although many people said the early models had geometry problems, I've never had a problem with mine. The Digital Decoder in it is also superb. It brings a whole new experience to watching ...
...bright colours and no noise. Although the PCMCIA card to fit in the back of the TV has been announced, so that scrambled programs and teletext can be viewed (they're not available without the extra), Ondigital seemed to know nothing about it. Doh! The sound of the TV isn't bad, although it's not great. It has two stereo speakers, a centre speaker, a bass on top of the TV, and comes with two satellite speakers. Unless placed in a corner, I find it ...
