Advantages: Screen, maps, voice directions, gesture commands, speed cameras, dashboard attachment Disadvantages: Slightly slow processor, not mac compatible, no future support
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Sony no longer make sat navs for the European market and are thus slowly stopping support for the current line-up. So it looks as if there will be no further map updates for Sony sat navs. A real shame, i think, as i believe they could have gone on to produce some great products.
After much consideration, and research, I decided that the Sony was exactly what I wanted - a basic system that would replace the hassle of map reading ... ...as with screens on all Sony products, is superb. Whether you use it day or night it won't disappoint, and it automatically changes its brightness so you don't have to. Having the large wide screen also means you can see lots of the surrounding area including nearby villages/towns etc, which are clearly labelled. You would be looking at paying at least £30 more for the equivalent screen size on other makes.

Quick review of Sony NVU 53 G
Disappointing.
Mapping is not up to date compared with my previous 3 year old. Sat Nav, although this used Navteq mapping!
Touch screen has poor response, is jumpy, not accurate and difficult to control, in spite of trying resetting several times.
Have difficulty linking to Windows Vista. Message keeps saying USB on sat nav has failed, although the recommended download " Windows Mobile Device Centre says it is connected and the Sat Nav has a continuous message of "connecting" but never says it is connected.
The upside is its easy to programme.
Conclusion: Reasonable price, easy to use, but operation leaves a lot to be desired. ...

Quick review of Sony NVU 53 G
I purchased one of these in May 2008. After 4 months occasional use, it developed a software fault and had to be reset. I returned it to Sony but they refused to repair under the warranty insisting it was accidental damage or due to misuse.
The customer service team were very unhelpful and were absolutely determined that it would not be repaired or returned to me without a hefty charge.
Its not only cost me the price of the product but the expense of returning it and several follow up phone-calls. ...

On First switch on, it takes a good five minutes to access the available satellites but no sooner is it set up and your on your way.
It's Touch screen is very responsive but u can't go wrong. ... ...the wrong corner it easily redirects you back on track. With it comes a suction cap for easily placing it anywhere in your car for good viewing.
