Advantages: Aesthetically gorgeous Disadvantages: Remote is just SILLY!
...assistant told me that the Sony brand still made the best portable audio devices and that the sounds quality was excellent, so I bought it!
It comes with a leatherette (yes, I know, it should be leather) case to protect your gorgeous case frmo scratches, the lead and earphones (in-ear,no foam), the remote, the charging base, the software and a small emergency battery attachment (incase your charge runs out).
Firstly, the sofware was really easy ... ...had to figure out how to transfer the music from my hard drive to the device (also very easy) and lastly with a bit of fiddling, I had set the sound on the Walkman and charged it. That was pretty much that!
The sound quality is fantastic and the choice of sounds is amazing...the surround souns is the best though! The 'hold' buttons on both the remote and the main player are very handy and prevent accidental button pressing from movement, etc. The ...

Advantages: Editing of tracks, compact, sound quality, battery life, build quality, Sony's bundled software, transfer MP3 from PC, overall design Disadvantages: Remote control less than robust, can't transfer from player to PC
...A friend showed me a Sony MD player he owned a few years ago and I was suitably impressed but never considered buying one due to the cost.
You'd be forgiven for thinking that Mini Disc players are a niche product for the truly hardened music fanatic. There is certainly some truth in that. Most people are quite happy with a portable CD player but try connecting it to your car stereo, or using it on a bus. The MD players are much more discreet.
Not ... ...CDs for recording) gives the Sony MDs a distinct advantage over the CD format. The Net MD allows you to edit and mix the tracks pretty much at will. However, I have yet to use that facility and it's doubtful I ever will.
As mentioned earlier, the 710 is mostly metal and is reasuringly heavy for its size. The design of the device oozes quality but the attached remote control lets things down a little. It can take time to figure out how to use it ...

Looks
This is an attactive MD. It has the screen at a jaunty 45 degree angle, which I find pleasing, and the buttons are all easy to use. It comes with a remote control, which is also useful, and has it's own screen, so you can still see the track titles etc when the main player is in a case.
Cost
I was given this MD as a present a year ago, but I believe they are currently about £60. I think this is great value for money, as you get a good range ... ...with software (PC and MAC compatible) to put downloads onto mini discs, which is especially helpful, and can also be used as a medium to play music on your computer. I find the software itself easy to use when I am recording and transfering things. You can use it to record from CDs as well as from downloads, and it is pretty quick. It makes naming tracks a lot less fiddly as you canjust type all the information in on the computer rather than using ...

the style of this player practicly invites you to use it and wont embarass you in front of other people. it is small and thin and will fit into your pocket with enough room to fit your mobile phone (if you wish). the screen itself shows you all the information you need to know and shows each function clearly so you wont get lost trying to work it out. Advantages: Simple to transfer media from pC to Disc via USB Disadvantages: no backlight on remote nor main player
I bought this after Christmas with my Christmas money. I was looking to buy a more ergonomic and sleek audio device after previously having a very bulky CD walkman and previously a Cassette walkman. A friend of mine already owned a minidisc, but this was one of the ones where music could only be recorded onto minidisk from a hi-fi. I had heard about NET-MDs from TV ads and thought that it would be a good gadget to get with my other option being an ... ...MP3.
The unit was well packaged and included USB and optical connecting leads. The LCD remote control which was what attracted me to buying this MD instead of its predecessor model which has a remote that Is not LCD. The unit also included Sony's SonicStage software which allowed me to transfer music rapidly from my PC to MD via USB cable or optical lead. The very nice leather carry case could also double as a place to store the disks. A rechargeable ...

Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: Not as loud as my other one
I used to have a sony MZ501 Type R (or something like that) and decided to buy a new one so i chose this as it was such a good price, brand name and is a NET MD.
I haven't found any major problems yet other than the remote can be a bit annoying if you don't have anything to clip it on but that isn't the worse thing in the world. It isn't as loud as my other one, this isn't bad but i would still like the option to lose my hearing.
The NET function ... ...the tracks is easy to type in where as on standard MD players labling tracks takes ages as you have to scroll through the alphabet starting from 'A' everytime.
It also has a pretty smart 6 band graphic equaliser (how posh) so you can set the sound you like (i like plenty of base while playing my collection of Feeder).
Erm... what else??? The one I got was blue, nice colour. Erm... ahhh... Oh yeah, regargable battery, very handy and is square so ...

Advantages: Smart, Stylish, Quick music download, joystick on remote to skip tracks and pause. Disadvantages: Remote is a bit fiddley and doesnt light up.
I was luck to receive this mini disc through my local education authority. Had I had not received it free, I would have purchased a mini disc myself and this would most likely have been the model I would have got. The MZN 710 has many plus points, for a start it looks great! it has a full aluminium case, it comes with a nifty desktop charging cradle which allows for very easy charging (you just plonk the minidisk on it and it charges).
The net MD ... ...from a CD and put it onto your minidisc, so that you can listen to it in seconds. However if recordings are made onto the minidisc its self i.e. by using it as a microphone recorder, you are unable to transfer this onto the computer which is a pain if you want to use it as a Dictaphone.
It’s small enough to take with you running and won’t skip a beat no matter what you do to it, plus its robust shell means it doesn’t get damaged.

...It would be excellent if Sony came up with minidisc to CD burning option downloadable upgrade for SoundStage as it would be useful for burning copies of your recordings for those who have not fully embraced the digital age.
To save on battery life, I would advise you to make frequent use of the 'hold' facility on the remote control.
Some have complained about the lack of volume from the unit. As I said before, RTMF. If you opt for a CUSTOM EQ and ... ...with a significant boost in volume levels. So do a bit of delving.
The other excellent facility offered is the choice of recording length modes. In LP2 mode, you can double the disc recording length and in LP4 mode, you can QUADRUPLE your recording time (excellent for recording the complete works of your favourite artistes). So for an 80 minute disc, you can record for 5 hours and 20 minutes! I love it.
I must admit that I cannot give an opinion ...

Advantages: Easy to use, great battery life, looks good, light! Disadvantages: Lack of backlight in displays and poor earphones!
I have to admit I only bought this player on a whim when I had some cash to spare. The player itself is well constructed and doesn't feel cheap. It was easy to use but as a MiniDisc virgin it took a half an hour or so to get used to the format. I found the Sonic Stage program included to be stable and easy to use. Just don't try to transfer more than 3 songs to a disc at a time as the program always crashes. The cradle is useful for charging because ... ...life is in my opinion extremely good. I have never run out of battery although I am not a heavy user. The main problems are that it almost impossible to use the player in poor lighting as you cannot read the displays due to a lack of backlighting. (Some of the more expensive players have this feature). The other main problem is that the earphones fall out of my ears constantly although they do have a good quality of sound when in place and do not ...

Advantages: compact, easy to use, stylish Disadvantages: no bass boost
I had been wanting to buy a mini disk for a long time but was always put off by the 'technical side' of it.
After some searching around the shops and the net, this mini disk caught my eye and i am very pleased with it. There are a lot of plus points to this MD. It looks very stylish with its aluminium shell both front and back where there are alot that spoil the look with a black plastic back panal.
Technicaly it is super as it can play all formats ... ...one mini disk! also its remote is simple to use without beeing bulky although it does not have a light. Its net mini disk facility removes the tedious task of typing the names of the songs in.
The optical output is a great advantage and this was one of the major reasons i bought it. this allows the recordings to be done in digital so the sound quality improves.
A draw back is its volume control. it does not posess a bass boast and also the volume ...

Advantages: Cheap, remote control, lots of features Disadvantages: Case can get cracked, headphones
I've had my MZ-N710 for nearly a year now and it's been great, i bought it for about £130 which was a great price at the time.
Over the past year i have had no problems with my minidisc player except for a few tiny cracks in the sae at the side and bottom but they have no effect on the player itself.
The USB transfer is great, its much faster than non USB models and it allows you to compress the files if you need to. The software is a little slow ... ...import songs from my player. Also when you play a song from the minidisc via the software it plays the song through the headphones on the minidisc player instead of through the PC speakers.
The headphones are of poor quality and should be replaced if you want to take advantage of the superb sound quality of the player. I would recomend using a custom sound settings (the player has a graphic equaliser) as it makes the music sound just how you want ...

...that it is made by sony and it is a NET. Net meaning it can connect to the computer. I have to admit the battery on this is OK but thak goodness it is rechargeable! if it wanst then you could say you might want your own power station! so If your the type of person that is dedicated only to Mini disks then this is the one for you, but if your not and not afraid of change then i'd go for an MP3 player. they might be slightly more expensive but they are definatly worth it!

Advantages: Great for carrying around Disadvantages: is delicate and is easily broken
This minidisc player is great. I got one for christmas. You get in the box, the player, some fontopia headphones, a case, a crarging cradle, a battery, a USB connection lead and software called sonicstage.
I put my music onto it via the USB port. It is fast and simple. Also when you put music on via USB it takes up less memory therefore you can fit more on a disc. Discs are around £10 for five. They hold about 80 mins on each. The TDK ones are colour ... ...a bonus. Battery life depends on how loud you have the volume. If it is quiet then it will last longer and vice versa.
My favourite thing about it is probaly the equaliser settings. They really work. If you adjust them right then you can end up with a really good bass sound, or treble, or both!
The only down side, i would say is that it's delicate. As it costs around £150 you want to be careful not to damage it, however it is delicate and gets ...
