3 Stars The New Sixaxis! Review with images 13/02/2008
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Familiar layout, stylish, motion sensor

Disadvantages Disadvantages No rumble, feels cheap, battery non replacable, triggers badly designed

Refinement: The Sony Sixaxis controller is a refined version of the DualShock 2 which in turn was a refinement of the original DualShock which in turn was a refinement of the original PlayStation controller! Over the years not much has changed, if you were to take a Sixaxis back in time to 1995 the year of the original PlayStation, anyone familiar with the brand would be able to recognise its layout and looks. Look & Feel The Sixaxis is a stylish black colour, similar to the charcoal black of the later DualShock 2 controllers. The face of the controller has been cleaned up a bit, gone is the ... more

Advantages Advantages Battery Life / Charge Times ; Nice Size

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Squeaking / Sticking

I don't think there's that much that can be said about this specific product...it's a controller. However, I'll give an account of my experiences of this controller over the past two years. I got two of these sixaxis controllers free with my PS3 so was able to rotate between using one and charging the other, hopefully allowing me to prolong the usability of the contollers. Unfortunately, after about a year and a half ( and many hours of use, 200+ ) the left analogue stick on both controllers began to squeak and stick. I'm pretty sure the analogue bashing involved in Beijing Olympics ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliable, lightweight, chargeable by USB. Will fall in price with introduction of DUALSHOCK 3.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No rumble. DUALSHOCK 3 is a more complete controller.

The SIXAXIS is a wireless, lightweight controller for the PS3. However, it crucially lacks the rumble facility that has since been included in the newly released DUALSHOCK 3 controller. For me, the SIXAXIS appears to have been a temporary controller bundled in with the initial batches of PS3s and available only until the technology was perfected to install rumble into the controller. Now that this has been done, the DUALSHOCK 3 is the way forward. It is exactly the same as the SIXAXIS, but feels slightly heavier (in a good way) and has rumble. The SIXAXIS has been discontinued from production ... more

    Advantages Advantages Six-axis, light, wireless

    Disadvantages Disadvantages no rumble pack

When you think of a games console you think heavy, uncomfortable and always getting tangled in wires. Well not the PS3 sixaxis controller. The first point of interest is the wireless cabability of the controller. The controller uses bluetooth which allows a constant stream of information from the controller to the PS3 with no lag time. The second is because it is bluetooth the range of the controller is about 20m, you will never need this much length but it means there will be no-where in the room that you can't use it. The last point about bluetooth is that it does not need a direct ... more

4 Stars so many axis so little time? Review with images 07/08/2007
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Better design improved buttons

Disadvantages Disadvantages Herhaps too light for aggressive gamers

Background The sixaxis oh dear wii now ps3 can do the interactive thing too not looking good is it! The original ps3 controller was much different to the one released with the beastie machine itself know only as ps3 unless you call it anything else? Anyhow the first controller design as pictured at the bottom of the screen is boomerang shaped and silver. This odd design was subject to yet more criticism from ps3 on lookers Sony later stated that the original controller "was very clearly designed as a design concept, and was never intended to be the final controller, despite what everybody said ... more

    User recommends the product

    Advantages Advantages +Lightweight +Great battery life +Motion-sensing

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -No rumble

The SixAxis controller is the standard controller for the PS3 at the moment. In the east (and possibly America) a new version has been released which has a rumble feature. This product will be out in the UK around about springtime. The current model lacks rumble capabilities. This may seem a bad thing, but you really do get used to it, I don't miss rumble at all now although I might buy the dualshock3 (the rumble version) when it comes out in the spring, as it's bound to add a bit to the experience of playing a game, but its nothing major. The lack of rumble is the ONLY possible negative I can ... more

Advantages Advantages Great design very easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Keep on loosing it beacuse it doesnt need a cable

At present this is the standard controller for the PS3. It follows the sucessful layout of the Dual shock two controller that was used on the PS2. The controller uses the same traditional dual analogue stick, direction buttions and four action buttons (triangle, square, circle and cross) which are all pressure sensative as well as the 4 shoulder buttons (L1 L2 R1 R2) and when depressed the analogue stick also act a buttons. Main Differences The first thing you will notice is the lack of a cable. The controller is wireless using bluetooth technology. In my experience it has worked perfectly ... more

Advantages Advantages lightweight, good battery & no wires in sight

Disadvantages Disadvantages there is no rumble

The Sony Official PS3 SIXAXIS Wireleass Controller was my first standard controller for my PS3 and I have been well pleased with it though I have also gone on to purchase others. This is a standard sized though lightweight controller which is simple and easy to use in my opinion and it helps undoubtedly for some that it also comes with a really helpful instruction manual. In my opinion, what I especially love about the Sony Official PS3 SIXAXIS Wireleass Controller is the fact that it is completely wireless and therefore there is no longer any worry about your wires getting all tangled up ... more

    Advantages Advantages Ergonomics, Comfort, Wireless

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little light, No rumble! 7 pad max not 8

I briefly mentioned this pad in my review of the PS3. When a friend of mine played the PS3 for the first time he said, "Its been how many years since the PS2 and the pad looks exactly the same!?" To me its no surprise at all, and i explained. Doesnt it prove everything about the pad is right? Sony have had so many years to think about improving it, they have trialled other designs in the run up to the release of the PS3 but in the end they new the had to stick with this design. Ergonomically its perfect! 'If it aint broke, dont fix it!' This pad is without doubt the most comfortable to use and ... more

Advantages Advantages Long-lasting RECHARGEABLE Battery life, familiar user-interface and tilt-sensivity

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of rumble feedback and build quality could be much better.

Sine buying the Playstation 3, I have had and own three six-axis controllers. The first of which came with the games console itself. First impressions of the controller, were that it was both light, comfortable and stylish. The controller itself, is not as opaquely black as it appears in the many images provided on online shopping websites. It is, in fact, semi-translucent, which I myself, think is a nice effect, rather then the solid black colour of the previous Playstation 2's controller. In terms of build quality, the six-axis isn't the most amazing product. The buttons located on the ... more
