...fought here and now between Sony and Microsoft to be the undisputed king in the eyes of the joypad waggling generation with their Playstation 2 and Xbox consoles. When faced with the choice of buying one or t`other I came to the conclusion that although the Xbox was superior in graphics and potential exclusive games the PS2 was the only choice for the shear size of the back catalogue of games and strong support from third party games developers. ... ...simply have to load the Sony network access disk and link your PS2 to a router to enjoy fun and games with other like minded folk. But why Sony have not included the network access disk in the box is beyond me, perhaps it is to ensure you register your PS2 as you cannot get the disk without doing so. Sony Sony Sony... these guys have some history with Nintendo. Back in the day when the Super Nintendo was the dominant video game console, Nintendo thought "We know! Let's make a CD add-on drive for our amazing Super Nintendo!" The executives of Nintendo all agreed since their rival at the time, Sega, had a CD add-on device for their Mega Drive. Nintendo drafted in Sony, a massive and well respected worldwide electronics manufacturer, to design the ... ...more 'original and better' add-on. Sony was left with a CD device that would go to waste, but not being the ones to waste good technology they decided to add their own little touches to compensate for the missing Super Nintendo. Thus the Sony Playstation was born! (Nintendo's Optical Cartridge Drive was only released in Japan and it was a huge flop, not unlike an impotent goldfish. Advantages: it's got it all Disadvantages: The cost is ever rising
...is really an example of Sony breaking taboos and going against console convention! Ever the perfectionists, Sony have also made it so that the PS2 logo can spin, depending on the position of the console. To enable the machine to stand up, you will need a stand, which annoyingly is not supplied in the silver Playstation package. Though it is a great gimmick, I found the games more difficult to load into the tray when it was vertical, and so prefer ... ...not loose your old classics. Sony even claims that the new console can even improve the gameplay of these old games, which I have yet to notice. Of course owners of GameCubes say "our games are best" and likewise with X-BOX owners, but I don't want to get drawn into that heated debate. All I can say is that Sony has invested a lot of money into ensuring some of the most spectacular games released on the PS2. Here are a few examples;

In September 2004, Sony released the Slimline PS2. The main differences between the Slimline PS2 and the original Playstation 2 is that the Slimline PS2 is smaller, thinner and quieter!

Well, the looks are much better than what the original Playstation 2 was. The main visual difference is that it is much, much thinner!!! And when I say much, much thinner, I really mean a lot. I'm talking about comparing Johnny Vegas to Victoria Beckham!

With the Slimline PS2, when you switch on the console, there is a quiet whirring noise that lasts for about four seconds, and then, (unless you are sitting with your ear touching the console), there is just total silence. Advantages: Slim Design & Good Service Disadvantages: Non Multi Region
...AC Adaptor. After checking it, Sony had suggested me not to use my current AC Adaptor due to some problem of over heating of the adaptor (that I already suspected). Next week I received the new adaptor and I had returned the old adaptor to them for free. They also provide the new adaptor for free as well. I am really impressed with their good service (no wonder Sony is well known as a great electronic manufacture) ++++++++++

... ...format and this is different from the NTSC format and you only can use PAL DVD games and Movies for this console. o The solution is you can do some adjustment (cheat) with some of the IC Chip inside the console or using a special CD to enable the console to play the DVD/CD from different format. Advantages: Loads of games, doubles up as a DvD player, plays PS1 games. Disadvantages: Needs a mulitap for 3 players or more, Games should be cheaper.

...but by reducing the size, Sony have removed the motorized draw, so I suppose this is the only option to go with, but come on guys, it could of been a bit stronger/tougher.
The PSTWO now has a built-in IR receiver so now you don’t need an adapter plugged into the port with the paddle to use a remote control for DVDs as now this is built in.
One of the things I picked up on the PS2 was the fan, after a while you would hear the fan blowing away to ... ...It’s a shame that Sony hasn’t made it multi-region for DVDs as most DVD players these days are.
If you haven’t got a Playstation 2 then I highly recommend the new design, but, if you’ve already got the old design, don’t upgrade, it’s only the design that has changed not the power of the machine. But with gossip of the Playstation 3 on it’s way, do you wait for the new machine or buy this model, then again, do you wait for the Playstation 3 to be ...

...must have accessory. Sony have pulled through and changed things, now the must have console is the PSone of course. Though as technology progresses and time moves on it was only a matter of time before the brother of the PSone made an appearance and here it is, the PS2.
The PS2 was on the shelves two years back just before the Christmas of 2000. Sony had an excellent Christmas that year, not only was there so many orders placed, each one was going ... ...to come from only the Sony range. I have came across some good games found on other consoles but with the PS2 you have a much wider range and variety of games for you to choose.
There are so many games out for the PS2 which like I say, gives you that extra easy choice to find a game that suits you. The Getaway (RRP £44.99) has just only came out and the orders placed for that was enormous. It’s games like this that get people more attracted ...

The Playstation 2 has many functions to it, you can get it in Jet Black, which I have it in, or you can get it in Silver, which looks way much better, but it is very rare to find. I have many games for this console, over 30. My newest ones are, Dynasty Warriors 3, Timesplitters 2, Enter the Matrix and Shadow Memories. They all are great games, but out of them, I have enjoyed Enter The Matrix or Dynasty Warriors 3 more. I have written a review on ... ...it out after this review. Dynasty Warriors 3 is about, you’re a general, of an army, and you send them into battle, while other generals speak to you, and help you out with their armies, there are 3 main clans, which when together are called the HAN. Enter The Matrix is about, you are going along the story of Niobe and Ghost, how do they get into this etc etc, and you get to have fun in the Matrix itself. In comparison with other consoles, Play 2 has a classic architecture. Polygons calculations and transformations are done with the new processor Emotion Engine (300Mhz). All graphic effects as fog, transparency ( etc..) are created by the powerful exclusive Sony Graphic Synthetiser.
Emotion Engine (weird name :) ) is a big plus for Play 2 comparing to its competitors (Xbox by Microsoft ... ...the image is not harmonized. Sony preferred its Emotion Engine.
Therefore, this console is powerful; nevertheless, this new technology seems not being at the top. I mean the programming for the Play 2 is very hard; programmers must work harder than never to get the huge capacities of this console

Living in a house that has always been Nintendo orientated, I was a bit shocked when my son announced that he now wanted to try play station. Not knowing much about it I agree to ‘scour’ the Internet to find the best deal! Unfortunately they were all about the same price - £199.99. This price was without any games! I eventually decided to order a deal from electronic boutique with an extra control pad and two games for £249.00. Un luckily ... ...town centre and entered Argos. They were selling the game for £199.99 (it was in the shop window). When I browsed the book I saw a deal for the console and two games for £254.00. I picked two games and made my purchase.

The Playstation 2 my friends is not only a games console, it is a fine quality DVD Player and Audio CD Player. A brilliant future investment, well until the next Playstation comes out anyway. It is already beating Microsoft's X-BOX by far as well as the Nintendo GameCube to a lesser extent in the console wars. The information about the DVD ... ...the console to its competitors. Sony have proved perviously with the PS1 that they can produce a console that can beat competiton, it was more succesful than the technologically advanced SEGA Dreamcast. Microsoft have proved themselves in the PC industry but does their X-BOX look more like an 80's video player than a console, should Microsoft stick to what their good at. Certain popular games on the PS2 are not availiable on the X-BOX or the GAMECUBE ...

...console, it was inevitable that Sony would capitalise on its success and produce a successor to take the gaming community into the next generation of consoles. The likes of Sega pulling out of the race, with their failed Dreamcast machine, and with Nintendo's 64 console restricting their market to a cartridge based box meant that the Playstation 2 and it's DVD based setup looked to be a certain hit from the outset. All this may be well and good but ... ...as aliasing. With most other Sony DVD players, this 'characteristic' is not present. This is yet another excuse for you to buy that widescreen TV you have always wanted.
Overall
At its release, the PS2 had a hefty £300 price point attached to it (I paid that much!!), putting it into the reach of only the true die-hard gaming junkies. When Christmas approached fast and the GT3 phenomenon driving sales through the roof, it was inevitable for the ...
