...a tough act to follow. Sony are clearly not worried as according to their marketing the PS3 is a "supercomputer" and is capable of "4D" graphics, with such bold claims I had to pick one up for myself and see if it was true!
Unboxing
The first thing you will notice about the PlayStation 3 box is that it's huge! The Xbox 360 had a rather large box but this is incredible being about 1.5x as big. The box design itself is worth a mention as it is pretty ...

The launches did not turn out great for Sony as initial figures were low, here are the figures below:

The launch was initially supposed to be as follows:
November 11th for Japan and November 17th for North America and Europe

...the set date. And then Sony delivered the devastating news. The Playstation 3 would not arrive in Europe until March 2007. Oh yeah sure it was still going to be November 17th for America and Japan, but what about us all here in Europe!!!!!!!!
The reason why the date had been put back for another four months was "the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components ...

...can also fail miserably. Sony have tried to go completely wireless with this console and I must admit that having a wireless controller is a massive bonus, but the downside is they're so expensive at around £35 a shot. On the plus side, you don't have to pay for batteries as there is a USB cable that attaches to the controller and PS3 which charges the controller if it starts to run down. Also, if you'd rather stick with your old PS2 controllers, ...

Sony Playstation 3 (60 GB)
At last the pinnacle of next generation gaming is finally upon us. Or is it? Maybe so, but have we not seen all this already?
Sony's new games console the Playstation 3 or more commonly known as the PS3 was finally released across the European Union and Australia as well as the other PAL region 2 compatible countries on Friday 23rd March. With up to 300,000 units available at launch it was unlikely that the PS3, which ...

...controllers. I cannot thank Sony enough for sticking with the tried and tested formula (especially after seeing the boomerang shaped prototype they were considering at the start). Playstation veterans will have had the bones in their hands evolve to use this controller, and I for one just wouldn't feel right having to adjust to another controller - it's like cheating. That, and I hate the Wii. I don't want to wave my arms around like an idiot playing ...

ps3 you got me! Review ofSony PlayStation 3 (PS3)by

Advantages: blu-ray player, HD player & console in one! Disadvantages: cost
Having tried the xbox 360 for 5 months, finding it cr*p & getting my money back-due to numerous faults- I bought a ps3....
If the wii hadn't been out of stock everywhere within 35 miles of where I live, I would have got that- merely because I wanted a new console, I needed the excitement, and the ps3 was way out of my budget.
Thank the lords the wii was out of stock!
WOW! Yes, I was super excited- we hate to be out of the technology loop ...

Advantages: Same Pads, versatile, Good looking! Disadvantages: Cost (but it IS worth it) Big name Games not here just yet
...doubt the best part of Sony is the pads. Ergonomically they hit perfection with the PS2 pads so why would you change the way they look???
Of course on top of that we know they have made them wireless and six-axis controlled as well. *icing on the cake*
If anyone is worried like i was, about the battery life of wireless pads, fear not. i charged the pads up by the USB cable on the day i got it and still havent had to recharge!! bonus!

I have also been impressed with the Bluray capabilities of the machine. I haven't seen the other HD format in action so can't compare - but the sound an picture are excellent, so much so that I always check whether a title is available on Bluray before renting/buying. Having said ...

Advantages: Powerfull, Strong feauture, Big back cataloge. Disadvantages: Expensive, big.
The Playstation 3 is the latest next generation console from Sony, and it certainly looks like one, its shiny black coating and silver writing give it an almost alien feeling, as if it has been left by some visiting spaceship. It is however big and heavy (over 7kg) yet you soon forget about that once it is its rightful place by your television as it fits in perfectly never looking out of place.
After turning the Playstation on for the first time, ...

...interfere with this new feature, Sony disabled the old "rumble" feature on the controllers. This helped make the game feel a little more real, but I would rather be able to control certain moves with the controller than have it just shake in my hand, anyways.
Response times were fantastic - you could switch weapons in the heat of combat, you could jump, roll, and move all over the place and the game doesn't slow down, even when there are quite ...

PS3 Console Review ofSony PlayStation 3 (PS3)by

Advantages: Amazing graphics and gaming capabilities, looks great Disadvantages: quite a high price
...technical specification, from the US sony website, are at the bottom)
The console looks superb, it is quite large but has a shiny black body and a sleek silver finish, the body is curved slightly and really looks good. However the body does easily attract dust and scratches so you will need to clean it regularly. The "PS" logo on the front (above the disk drive) can be rotated so that t is the right way up whether the console is horizontal or vertical. ...

Advantages: slick piece of hardware, great games, so much to do! Disadvantages: not cheap!
...it seems as though finally Sony have caught on to the fact that the outer design of the console is as important to a gamer as the leather interior is to a 2006 Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
Gone is that ugly block-like design and in comes a smooth surfaced console with curved edges just begging you to caress them. Much like it's predecessor, the PS3 can be placed vertically or horizontally on a surface but it really shouldn't be tucked away into a ...

Ok the playstation 3 is expensive weighing in at £425 however if you compare just the Basic Hardware with say XBox 360, you will be surprised how cost effective it is.
For example the XBox 360 Premium console, has 20 GB hard drive, headset, wireless controller, AV cable.
And costs around £279, if you can wait until 24th August 07 Microsoft have planned to release the Xbox 360 Elite
