The launches did not turn out great for Sony as initial figures were low, here are the figures below:

The launch was initially supposed to be as follows:

Storage is important nowadays in every media and PS3 has 40GB, 60GB & 80GB Versions of it. The 60GB and 80GB versions have memory slots as well which you can use to transfer between PS3 and any media. The slots that are available are:
USB: Front x 4, Rear ...

...a tough act to follow. Sony are clearly not worried as according to their marketing the PS3 is a "supercomputer" and is capable of "4D" graphics, with such bold claims I had to pick one up for myself and see if it was true!
Unboxing
The first thing you will notice about the PlayStation 3 box is that it's huge! The Xbox 360 had a rather large box but this is incredible being about 1.5x as big. The box design itself is worth a mention as it is pretty ... ...the box, being touted by Sony as the only "true" HD console this is really disappointing and requires you to go out and spend an extra £20 on a HDMI or component cable. Furthermore the Sixaxis wireless controller has no rumble, which you really miss especially in driving games and shooters, due to Sonys lawsuit with Immersion, thankfully this has been resolved and we've been promised a DualShock 3 but that means even more money but if you haven't ...

...the set date. And then Sony delivered the devastating news. The Playstation 3 would not arrive in Europe until March 2007. Oh yeah sure it was still going to be November 17th for America and Japan, but what about us all here in Europe!!!!!!!!
The reason why the date had been put back for another four months was "the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components ... ...tray this time. This time, Sony have designed a suck in disc slot. You insert the disc into the slot, and the PS3 will suck it in, press the button on the console, and it will come out, imagine a floppy drive tray, but much more stylish and sleek. I think that this is a great looking part of the console, and is much better than a flimbsy disc tray coming out of the console every time.
Another thing you will notice when using the console are the ...

...can also fail miserably. Sony have tried to go completely wireless with this console and I must admit that having a wireless controller is a massive bonus, but the downside is they're so expensive at around £35 a shot. Sony Playstation 3 (60 GB)
At last the pinnacle of next generation gaming is finally upon us. Or is it? Maybe so, but have we not seen all this already? Sony's new games console the Playstation 3 or more commonly known as the PS3 was finally released across the European Union and Australia as well as the other PAL region 2 compatible countries on Friday 23rd March. With up to 300,000 units available at launch it was unlikely that the PS3, which ... ...I think for once Sony got it right.
Microsoft have already scratched the surface in the next generation stakes as their console the Xbox 360 delivers awesome power as well as introducing high definition compatible graphics and reconstructing the Xbox Live structure to create a gaming community where you can now download demos, videos, music and classic games and if you are a Gold subscriber online multiplayer gaming. One of the slight bones of contention ...

...controllers. I cannot thank Sony enough for sticking with the tried and tested formula (especially after seeing the boomerang shaped prototype they were considering at the start). Playstation veterans will have had the bones in their hands evolve to use this controller, and I for one just wouldn't feel right having to adjust to another controller - it's like cheating. That, and I hate the Wii. I don't want to wave my arms around like an idiot playing ... ...plenty. Not sure if Sony offer an expansion pack, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did, or plan to. That about covers the software. Yes, more educated folk could tell you about the processor and graphics chips and whatnot. So, the hardware. I will start with my biggest criticism so far. The PS3 makes the original Xbox look tiny. It weighs ...

Having tried the xbox 360 for 5 months, finding it cr*p & getting my money back-due to numerous faults- I bought a ps3....
If the wii hadn't been out of stock everywhere within 35 miles of where I live, I would have got that- merely because I wanted a new console, I needed the excitement, and the ps3 was way out of my budget.
Thank the lords the wii was out of stock!

Getting the ps3 from m&s has one great advantage- the package might be limited- but- it comes with a two year warrenty. Always helpful.

...doubt the best part of Sony is the pads. Ergonomically they hit perfection with the PS2 pads so why would you change the way they look???
Of course on top of that we know they have made them wireless and six-axis controlled as well. *icing on the cake*

Advantages: Powerful - Good Looking - Easy to setup - Loads of games Disadvantages: Quite heavy and bulky - Slow install and download times
Pretty much all of the versions are the same - but this is for the 80GB version. This is my opinion but after having the 40GB version - I do feel that this system stays cooler than the 40GB version.
The console is very heavy - and it is quite bulky - but it doesn't really matter. It looks very stylish - but it is basically a fingerprint magnet - the marks can be wiped off - but it is a bit annoying.
Setup - When you first attempt to setup the console ... ...it can be complicated. If you are connecting to a HD TV - you basically just connect the cable to the TV and console - turn console and Tv on - then select HDMI on the TV - then run the setup - it will says a HDMI device has been detected - do you want to configure - say yes and then let it detect the settings - the screen will go blank - then it should say the maximum resolution - select yes to keep the settings and then sort the sound settings ...

...up from the PS2. Although Sony was late in releasing the PS3, it was worth the wait in the end, although I did consider getting an Xbox 360 instead. The Xbox 360 came out much earlier and allowed microsoft the oppurtunity to get more Xbox 360's out there before the PS3 was even out. Advantages: Good looking, Entertaining, Easy to use, lots of features. Disadvantages: on the expensive side, not as many 'exclusive' games as other consoles
Almost two years ago Sony brought out two more versions of the PS3 because simply they weren't selling enough of the 80GB version, so out came the 40GB and 60GB; two consoles cheaper than the first model with lots of useless features removed. Some time later and this has done Sony no good at all, the PS3 is still the worst selling console.
And I have no idea why....
Gaming - If you have a HD TV I would suggest you buy a HDMI cable because the console ... ...the gaming experience to a whole new level.
The Games collection may not be as big as that of the Xbox 360 but it has all the major titles and some okay exclusives like 'Metal Gear Solid 4'.
Most games are easy to just pick up and play and with the very light wireless controllers (so you don't have to sit to close to the TV) you can just relax in a nice comfy seat.
Popping in a game disc is a cool thing in it's self, it has a slot load drive which ...

The Sony Playstation 3 is a great console, due to the fact it has alot exciting new features from the previous sucessors. One of the main reasons the PS3 has done well in the war against other consoles is that the games available on the this platform are much vast. ...to access the regular internet. Sony just recently came out with Home, which is pretty much their family friendly version of the program Second Life. The only real problems i've experienced with this online is that it isn't as fast as Xbox Live and is also slow on downloads. The Playstation Network does suffer from a great deal of slowdown moments at times and you'll find that you're connection will jump up and down on some occasions but that's really ... ...much slower then Xbox Live, which is a real pain when the files are extremely large.
One of the biggest disadvantages that the PS3 has when compared to the 360 and Wii is the size of its game library. The PS3 thus far has the smallest gamelist out of all three systems but that isn't saying that the PS3's games aren't great. The PS3 has a good number of exclusives including Killzone 2, Resistance, Metal Gear Solid 4 and their new exclusive Infamous.
