...for who can say if Sony backed out when Nintendo did(the PSX was originally a project between Nintendo and Sony before old Ninty decided it wanted to stick to cartridges) would we have a new set of next generation consoles? Would some companies even still be in business?

...course we can't. Sony have tried their utmost to maintain the view that the games will keep on coming in Playstation 1 format for the foreseeable future. Great lengths have been gone to so that this message is received loud and clear. The new redesigned smaller, cuter PS1 was released around the same time as the PS2 and backwards compatibility means that Playstation 1 games will mot become obsolete entirely, but what about the console? Sure Sony ... ...provide a clear warning to Sony that for the PS2 to be a big success they will not be able to rely on sequels such as Ridge Racer although newer games such as GT3 and Metal Gear 2 will undoubtedly be huge sellers. Looking at the Playstation's successor the PS2 I am sure that no one could really predict that it will continue Sony's stranglehold of the console market at the present time. Advantages: A catalogue of thousands of games, prices that just won't stop falling, supported by nearly all major developers and publishers. Disadvantages: Pushed to the back of Sony's priorities, software piracy, the sequels of the sequels have sequels.

The Sony PlayStation was the first console I ever bought. An inspiring first sentence, I know. I stumbled into the console market blind, unsure what the difference between a Saturn and a PlayStation was, I thought they were the same thing. I had played on each a few times and could see very little difference, bar the fact that the Saturn was uglier. My choice of the PlayStation was the result of a coin-toss, how ... ...finding cheap third-party accessories; although Sony do make the best quality stuff. You can get light guns, memory cards, steering wheels, mice, and very many unnecessary and useless things. The pad is the most important aspect of anything there so it's vital that you have two pads that suit your hands comfortably. I'd recommend the official PlayStation pad, it's about £20 but it's well worth the extra cash, besides, one is provided with extra PlayStation ...

I can honestly say I don’t know a single friend who hasn’t got this console, or who hasn’t had it. It was the first major console to use a CD based game instead of the usually proffered cartridge, and I suppose it could be said due this console, brought about the beginning to the end of Sega’s once very powerful rain in the gaming business. Other console ... ...was the mega drives attempt, not exactly great and then there was the Sega Saturn, Playstations only real rival at its release, but this failed miserably with the news of sony’s console and seem to knock the stuffing out of Sega.
Now come on who would have thought all those years back, some 5 years ago the original playstaion would still be thriving to this day. Due to its 32bit power the Playstation allowed games to be played in fully 3D, ...

...seem to think it's just Sony trying to flog a dead horse, it's actually quite a clever idea by Sony. It's turned out to be a cheap alternative for the flagship console, that is the PS2. The PSone is a gaming console that is essencially the original Playstation, that was released back in the mid 90's, recased into a footprint around half the size of the original. I'm not joking - this baby is small! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it for the ... ...not only does it play playstation games that are written onto CDs, but can also play your music CDs too! There's room for two controllers, or if you want to buy a multitap, you can plug 4 in - game permitting. You can also buy an LCD screen to plug in the top of it for around £80, which means you don't need to have a tv when you're taking it out and about (you'll need a power socket though!) I think that's a cracking little idea - doubt it'll catch ...

...N64 and its analogue stick Sony did the only decent thing and made an analogue pad too.
So now you can choose, D-Pad or joystick, it’s up to you as most games cope with either, but some are best suited to certain ones. Add to that a rumble feature to make the games feel real and you have a good, ergonomic pad. I can also tell you from experience that they last, I’m still on my original two 5 years later and they are great.
Longevity.
... ...5 years on, a remodelling and some new gizmos aside the PSX is still alive and kicking. It will fade away now as we have PS2, but not until it’s young brother is much cheaper. Great games are still produced, ISS2 for example and the older games can be bought for next to nothing. It’s still doing the business.

Sony brought out the PS five years ago: their first offering in the games console market in the face if stiff opposite from the Fathers of the Genre, Sega & Nintendo. And yet Sony beat them both. Millions of PS owners can't be wrong.
Buy with confidence. There is a vast choice of games for all tastes and at very good prices; you can also buy loads of add-ons, steering wheels, analogue joy sticks, even internet ports now.
Although ... ...it doesn't nessarily mean the games is any good. Once you've the novelty of smooth graphics is over all your bothered about is how good the game is to play - in most cases PS games have decent graphics but are very playable.
I've had the PS for four years and I've seen other consoles come & go. The PS will soon be eclipsed because that's what progress is all about. But for me the PS is perhaps THE console of all time. Go out and buy and let the ...

Sony seem to still be supporting this product and most game developers are still bringing out new titles, it’s especially good for a console if you can get a mock 1 or 2 seeming as they still have all the ports (newer models don’t have the external IO parallel port, which stops people from using add-ons such as cheat cartridges), Unfortunally Sony stopped the making of such ports because of piracy etc, but if you look ... ...the instructions on how to fix them manually.
The Latest playstation (PS1) although small and compact and able to take a small Monitor, i do not like, it's rubbish and takes all the fun out of getting accessories for your playstation, it's not worth the money or time, just buy a second hand playstation and if ur lucky you can get it as cheap as i did and as good quality, The games are really cheap £5 - £15 nowadays and with games such as tekken ...

...spent my savings on a Sony Playstation for £135 and the latest game - "Tekken 3" for £45.
I thought that as the Playstation was built simply for games all the games would run faster on it. In fact a lot run better on most PC's: Such as "Tomb Raider III" which runs better on the family PC. It also costs less on PC than on playstation, as do most games!
I think that if you have a PC it is a lot cheaper to simply buy PC compatible games and not to ... ...was simply taken in by all the advertising, and didn't realise how much you would get for your money.
Obviously with any games you get bored and want new ones, and when new games cost up to £44.99, whereas perhaps £25 on PC, I couldn't afford to keep buying games - so all in all it was a bad investment as I only bought two games and it cost me nearly £250 - £135 for Playstation and controllers, £45 "Tekken 3", £40 "Tomb Raider III", £10 memory card.
