Advantages Advantages Small, lightweight, ideal for travel, capacity to store many books

Disadvantages Disadvantages Availability of reader, availability of books

It was my husband, a huge fan of both literature and technology that first made me aware of the e-book and in particular of the Sony Reader. Unlike me, he tends to think hard about his purchases in advance and so there were many conversations (well not really conversations as that would assume my participation) around the virtues of this product before he actually decided to take the plunge and get one. I am by no means a prolific reader and my literary tastes are not as high brow as his, but I do appreciate books. I like to see books lined up on a shelf and I am fascinated by old books in ... more

Advantages Advantages Lightweight, easy to use, excellent battery life

Disadvantages Disadvantages You will be interrupted from reading to answer a lot of questions!

I'm sure by now a lot of you will be familiar with eBook readers, an electronic device designed to, for all intents and purposes, act just like a real book. And I'm sure a lot of you think the idea is absolutely ludicrous, that there is no need to make something such as a book, which obviously has stood the test of time just fine as it is, electronic. Well a couple of months ago I decided to splash out on one, having managed to pick up the old model (pictured, only mine is a sexy red!) on sale from John Lewis for £150, as the new touch-screen version was coming out. The new version, I should ... more

Advantages Advantages light, easy to use, environmentally friendly, saves space on my bookshelf

Disadvantages Disadvantages no backlight, no new book smell.

For those who don’t know I write Erotic Romance as Victoria Blisse, this also means I sometimes read it. I write reviews and sometimes I just read for pleasure. The problem with that is that my house is stuffed to the gills with all kinds of books and I’m not a fan of reading on a computer, it’s not comfortable. Enter the Sony E-reader, purchased with my royalty money. At the time I picked my baby up for a very reasonable £149 from Play.com, it was on offer at the time and a very good offer too. You’re looking at £234 to buy it now. It’s the size of a small, thin book and it weighs about the ... more

Advantages Advantages Battery life, ease of use, very light, looks good, does exactly what is needed

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ebook market still very new, customers outside US not able to access google books

I am extremely prone to the impulse buy and when I saw the PRS-505 on sale in September I could not help myself and spent quite a substantial amount of money on it. Have I ever regretted this? Not for a second! If you don't read books often I think it is fair to say that spending £150+ on a device to read books when you still need to purchase the actual books is not going to be the wisest decision. However if you are like me and read at least 1-2 hours per day and often commute then I feel you should read on and discover why I simply cannot see myself going back to traditional methods. When I ... more

**** Sony E Reader **** I really enjoy reading but somehow my suitcase always ends up really heavy so when i saw that my local Waterstones had some in stock i decided to purchase one.At 199 quid its not cheap but i felt i could easily spend that on buying the books alone. **What is it?** Basically it is an electronic device that you can store books on.The memory size you get with it holds up to 160 books but there is also slots for you to add extra memory if needed, not that you would need it. **Pros** One of the best things about this is that you do not have to carry loads of books around with ... more

There was a time when Sony was one of the most trusted and successful electrical brands on the planet. But it seems that with this product they have let themselves down considerably. What is it? The purpose of this device is to provide you with e-books that you can read on the go, and from the 6 inch screen. But i'm afraid i'm going to have to throw the book at Sony (sorry bad pun). This product is in fact completely pointless - why spend the best part of £200 on an electronic device that is harder to read than a real book? Is it Worth my Dosh? Simply put - no. To add to the fact that it is ... more

Advantages Advantages Lightweight, portable, wide choice of books available for anytime/anywhere reading.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No colour pages for illustrated books; no ac adapter or back light shipped with product.

I love a gadget and therefore was fascinated when I first came across this product in-store and knew I had to have it! I am the a fair-weather reader and end up exceeding my baggage allowance due to the number of books I have packed for my holiday. So the Sony Portable Reader seemed to be an ideal solution. I opted for the touch screen version which has a 6" touch screen and comes in smooth aluminium in a choice of three colours. It also comes with a protective case. Setting the reader up was relatively straightforward, although it didn't come with an AC adapter and had to be connected to my ... more

I love reading, I normally go through about 5 books a month, so when I saw this advertised I thought to myself, I need one of these. The screen is very nice on the eyes. Moving around the gadget is easy too, you can bookmark your page, jump pages and general feel to the Sony Ereader is nice. Battery life lasts for around 6500 page turns which is plenty, unless your reading the bible. This product is ideal for commuting and flights etc. You can basically carry thousands of books around with you flicking between each one or you can just read one at a time. Its up to you. Problems. 1. Well the ... more

I love the Sony E reader because since I found this gadget it has made life sitting on a bay for hours on end whle Im in my Lorry a pleasure and no longer a chore. I love the idea of the e reader by Sony, hundreds of books all in one place and all available with the push of a button. I have books all over the cab and they always get filthy and dog eared. I always lose my page when I have to put them down because the red light on the bay changes to green and they want their bay back. Another thing with a paper book is that if you take it into a waiting room , every one can see what your reading ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks good, small, lightweight, good capacity, easy to use.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Time it takes to charge from a computer.

I have just returned from a cruise holiday to the Venice. Normally I would take 5 books with me as I tend to read one every 3 or 4 days. It's either that or rely on the on-board library. This time, however, I had with me my Sony PRS-505 which I had loaded with James Patterson, Ian Rankine and Patricia Cornwell books (64 in all). One of the main problems during the cruise was having to stop reading on a fairly regular basis to answer questions about the reader. Even the waiters serving drinks would stop and have a chat about it. It was a complete success from every aspect and helped my wife and ... more
