    It was my mum's birthday a few months ago and no one could think of anything that she might want. Finally, i came up with the idea of all clubbing together and getting her a DVD player. (I am not taking credit for this, of course!). So we all put our money together; well my brother and i put a tenner each down and out came my dad's credit card! We had wanted to get a DVD player for ages but never got round to buying one. So this was a present not only that mum would love but one that we all could enjoy for years to come!     I bought this machine after my old Panasonic VCR started playing up, as was my 8 year old Sony DVD player. I have to say that it was a doddle to set up the connections and the machine itself. There are loads of connections on it in a variety of formats (scart, s-video, composite, component) which is great. The functions are wide and useful. Programming is easy, as is editing, re-naming, deleting, etc. My only disappointment with it is the playback quality. My old Sony DVD player produces a far better image on the TV.     Advantages Advantages Recording has never been so easy, with excellent picture and sound.quality.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Cooling fan can be heard at times during operation.

    When my 13 year old Sony Video recorder stopped working, I decided to upgrade to a recordable DVD machine. Connecting the player to the TV was easy as all the sockets are clearly labelled along with clear instructions, At first swithch on, the player automatically sets itself up with little imput from the user and all the settings can be altered later if needs be. Playing a pre-recorded disc is the same as an ordinary player. Recording a program can be done in various ways. The easiest way is to use a digital TV with 'smart-link'.     This recorder has been out on the market for a while now, but even today, I cannot think of anything which will improve it. It is relatively big and heavy, but dont let this put you off. All your recordings are automatically titled with the name of the program and date. Of course you can change this if you want. A clear menu shows you all the different programs on your disc - just scroll to the one you want to watch and click. Simple. The inputs on the front left of the recorder are great for recording straight off camcorders and other players, saves you having to route around at the back for ... more
