I have changed to this unit from a Samsung machine, the advantage is this has an analogue and digital freeview tuner, it also has the facility to pause live TV and record to the Hard Drive, or the DVD discs.

What a piece of kit this is, it is so simple to use and set up. It had lots of really good features and a long recording time on the hard disk. There are lots of different settings for recording quality and time but when you get down to the low end then the recording time might be high but the quality of the picture is not really watchable. We've used the Sony since summer '07 as our sole Freeview box and as a way of archiving TV series and films recorded via our Sky+ system. The only difference between the 870S and the 870B illustrated above is colour - the 870S is silver (to match the rest of our AV kit).

Advantages: has almost everything Disadvantages: can't record 2 channels
...and style of being a sony product. The epg is in a sky+ style and the recording function is very easy to use with one touch of a button. The downside is that you can only record one channel and watch that digital channel at once.
