A BIG missed opportunity. Sort it out Sony!!!

Advantages: 'Better than iPod' design. 'Better than iPod' look. Battery life (20-25 hours). The entire piece of hardware!
Disadvantages: The abysmal almost unusable software.

...they have a successful product. Sony however - seemed to have employed a bunch of schoolchildren to make their answer to iTunes - the connect player. This is a shame - because it seems like they've hired the world's best designers to make the MP3 player. LOOKS: So the NW-A3000 - is the answer to the iPod. The iPod beater. Well in terms of the unit itself, this is by FAR the best looking unit I have ever seen. It absolutely destroys the competition. ...
...point is - is that Sony have made a very versatile player without overwhelming the user with too many things to press - much like the iPod and most of the other players these days. VERSATILITY: The way in which you can organise your tracks is as good as iTunes - but you'll have problems with doing that, because of the prohibitive software - more on that later. The player plays music in the ATRAC3 format which is better quality in my opinion (as ...

An adequate media player.

Advantages: Sleek, Decent Capacity, Battery Life
Disadvantages: Price, Read speed

...I personally would recommend the Sony NWA3000 simply because it is a very good alternative to the iPOD in my opinion. There is more than enough space to store all your albums (be serious, 80GB is only good if you want films in your pocket). It looks fantastic (though you will want to clean it all the time - get a silicon case to stop the scratching) and is definitely a fashion item :) All in all, the price is a little over inflated, but for what ...

Very good, but is not without it's flaws

Advantages: Superp sound quality
Disadvantages: Sometimes crashes

Sony has truly created something great in this player, as in my opinion it blows the basic ipod out the water. Especially as these can now be bought for less than £130. I have always disliked ipods for many reasons (mostly unfounded!), and was frustrated that despite the ipods flaws (low battery life, flimsy and poor screen), no other company had seemed to really come up with anything that could compete with it. That is until this lil' gadget was ...
...Sonic Stage, supplied on the Sony website. I cannot recommend this program enough, as it is fantastic. Its simple to use, very fast and efficient. The unit has also crashed several times, but it's not too much bother as long as you have something small and pointy to jab the reset button with. Despite this flaw, it would seem this is nothing compared to the amount of problems my friends have had with their ipods. I have to admit that the ipod, and ...

...and reinstalling the software, but Sony saw fit leave almost all files on the system even after an uninstall, including registry values. I narrowed my problem down to corrupted registry values, and had to manually go through and delete them individually. When I re-installed after this, a new version of the software was found and installed, this works better than the original. Even though it now works, it still has a number of problems. Its very slow, ...
...of files seems to stress it out. It isnt very intuitive to use, its often hard to tell exactly what the software is currently doing, and getting it to do exactly what you want can be harder still, if not impossible. For example, if you want to rip a CD onto your walkman, you also have to save the ripped files onto your computer. For me, this is pointless as I already have my CD collection saved as ogg vorbis files, so naturally I just wanted to rip ...

...she was buying me a Sony player but was expecting the NW-HD5 so this came as a real surpise. This is my first foray into the world of MP3 players so can't compare with other items, but this is definitely worth getting from my experience so far. The unit is very easy to use. I haven't looked once at the instructions (which are a PDF file with the software rather than a manual). All you need is the quick start guide and common sense to navigate round ...
...is what you expect from Sony but you MUST remove the EU volume limiter or you will be very disappointed. The unit is supplied with the limiter ON and, even at full volume, it's just not that loud. However turn the limiter OFF and it becomes a different beast all together. As well as being louder the sound is much clearer and crisper. It is extremely easy to find the hack to turn the limiter off on the internet. You do not need to pay for the codes ...

...I've loved my previous Sony MP3 player but not so much I wouldn't lend it to my Aunty who was going on a long coach journey. The dear old girl was off to buy a CD walkman and cart the 9 CD's of her unabridged audiobook with her. "No Aunty!" Han crys. "Technologically not savvy - in just a few minutes the entire audiobook can be in this tiny little machine." So my Aunty leaves with my NW-HD5 20 GB MP3 player and doesn't want to part with it. We strike ...
...what the bug was that Sony needed to correct but would not recommend buying this gadget to someone without easy access to the internet. The Connect software managed to find all the music in Sonic Stage and transfer it across. It then allowed me to upload CD's into Connect whilst simultaneously transfering songs to the player itself. (The terminology for music transfer has also been standardised so that transfer is referred to as 'sync'ing). This ...

A player of two halves.

Advantages: Great looking player, Durable, Everlasting (almost) battery!
Disadvantages: Very slow software.

I bought the Sony player almost solely on the promise of its battery length; 30 hours they claimed. Athough I was sceptical, anything over 15 hours would have been ample; certainly far more than anthing the iPod could offer. I must admit I was put off by many reviews saying how difficult the software was to use, but decided on buying anyway. Sound Quality. Excellent. To be honest, I don't have much to compare it to, but even with the standard headphones, ...

...am extremely pleased with the Sony NW-A3000 player and I would recommend it to others. First impression are important and this is a great looking piece of gadgetry. The colour is deep and doesnt scratch easily (still no visible marks except finger prints, even after over a year). ...sony product should, quite rightly, draw you towards this reasonably priced mp3 player and this brings with it a host of benefits such as good customer services and a range of appliances compatable with the product. However, the software which comes with this is terrible and even got to the point with me where it wouldn't even load on the computer. BUT don't let this deter you. Sony have realised this problem and supply a link on their website for ...

...Soft Wear the Sony comes with a USB connection so as soon as you get it all you have to do is install the soft wear and off you go. now there is 2 draw backs the first is that the soft wear every now and then goes wrong. but if you go to http://support.sony-europe.com/DNA/ConnectPlayer/connectplayer.asp?l=en (just paste that bit) then you can download soft wear for the CONNECT Player and it is an Auto Update. ...good thing as I know Sony is a good make so I am not complaining on that one. the accessories you can buy are speakers now at £29.99 which isn't bad as I paid £99 when they first came out and a charging cradle. I think this is just wonderful and everyone should have one, the fact that it holds loads of songs, and you dont have to remove them ...

Audiophile sound

Advantages: good sound quality, long battery life
Disadvantages: poor software, lack of features, dissapointing screen

The Sony Walkman NW-A3000 was my first ever MP3 player, as such I had nothing to compare it to. I found it very hard wearing, easy to use and very stylish. The best points about the player are mostly the quality and style that Sony deliver in terms of the build and look of the device. Also the sound quality is superb, it really is. Now for the negatives, and there is a whole lot of them. The screen is not colour, its a simple one colour text display. ...
...based upon the sound quality. Sony avoided all the high tech screens and features to concentrate in the quality and it really shows. If you can pick one up cheap then get one. One tip I will give you is not to fully load the player as it gets confused and crashes, also upgrade to the new software from the Sony website as it much much better. ...

...plus points. The Sony NW-A3000 is a 20GB capacity hard drive player, though once you take into account the firmware etc present this actually gives you 18GB to play around with for your music. One of the key advantages of the Sony system then relies in the ATRAC file compression system. This is a highly efficient form of compression & allows you to reduce your file sizes to about half that of mp3's whilst maintaining the same quality. Due to the ...
...are of a high quality Sony build. I have a different set simply due to a preference for design but for those who like the standard in ear headphone design these will be great. They also come with a short lead & an extension lead so you can either keep your walkman close to your head (in a breast pocket or arm strap) without having wire dangling everywhere, or you can keep it in a bag/trouser pocket & have the extension lead attached. The walkman ...

...complete battery nut and the Sony NWA3000 had the best on the market. It hardly needs charging and it can either be plugged into the wall or into a USB port so wherever you are you can have it fully charged and ready to go. And it's not a brick, most of the players with big batteries are bulky and heavy and really clumsy looking. The NWA3000 is sleek. Plus, it is beautiful. Photographs do this mp3 player no justice. It is made from a translucent, ...

...there was nothing on the Sony site addressing the problem - Don't expect the manual to help you out either. This problem is not so bad in the newer software "sonicstage" but it is still slow. Sony just haven't got the software for this device right yet. It requires mountains of patience and if you didn't know how to find the software and configure it yourself you would be absolutely stuck. It freezes, crashes, deletes things, changes things, wipes youre player and worst case scenario has corrupted the hdd on the mp3 player itself.
