Ok, but how the heck do you rate Gas and Electric. The supplier either supplies it or they don't right?! Well, there are two lil secrets.     Advantages Advantages Hard to think of any

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Could end up in Hot Water

    It is not very often I have to deal with people who are completely un co-operative and refuse to listen to reason but today Southern Electric went straight to the top of the list. Let me tell you a story. I have a friend who is Swedish but lives in this country and Southern Electric are her suppliers. For several years she had paid £ 40 per month for her electricity with no problems whatsoever. When a friend informed her that it sounded a bit high for a small cottage she contacted Southern Electric who agreed with her and reduced it to £ 30 - which she has continued to pay ever since.     Advantages Advantages A great supplier with some very friendly and understandable customer services

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none unless you want to moan about the price of gas and electriclity, (i know i do)

    I have been a Southern Electric customer for a while now, for both my gas and my electricity, and, to be perfectly honest I have never been so happy, power supply company wise, although I would be happier if all gas and electric was free. Anyway, I have used quite a few companies over the years, the one prior to Southern Electric was the dreaded British Gas, who I had nothing but hassle with, especially when I had the misfortune of talking to their customer service department, what a nightmare that was.     When we first bought our home there was only one choice for gas and one for electric. For us they were British Gas and East Midlands Electricity. Then about the time the monopoly was lifted, we had a fall out with British Gas and moved our billing to East Midlands Electricity; who are now Powergen. Now these days when a utilities company comes cold calling I usually send them packing as I’m pretty sick of them.     Advantages Advantages pay as you go and no shock bills

    Disadvantages Disadvantages have to take key to shop but then go to the shop sometime anyway

    We are on Southern Electric but we never have a bill. A few years ago we swopped over to having a key. This means that we pay for the electricity before we use it. We do this by taking the key to the local shop and handing it over the counter. They put it in a machine and put on the key however much money we want. A bit like a swipe card for your mobile phone. We then take it home put it in our meter and hey presto we have electricity for that amount. Bet you are asking what if the shops shut or we forget. Well then we go on emergency. This means we have £5 worth of electricity that we can use ... more

    I have been with Southern Electric now for 3 years since moving into a property that unfortunately, has storeage heaters. I decided to go to them because the people we bought the property off recommended them. I was very impressed at the time at how quickly I got through to the Customer Services and set up an account. I had never had storeage heaters before and wasn't sure of how they worked on the Economy 7 tariff. The customer services representative was very helpful and explained how Economy 7 worked and the advantages and disadvantages and also arranged for some literature to be sent out ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages SHOCKING BILLS!, Poor Customer Service!

    I have been living at this house for over 5 years now and we have always paid roughly £200 a quarter for electricity - to Southern Electric. We paid less than this in our old house. There are 4 people in our household. In November 2008 we recieved a shocking bill for over £1,800. I phoned their Customer Service and they said that our meter had been read in 2005 and now again in 2008 and they had been estimating our bill in those 3 years. Apparently they estimated it low.     1 Star Quick review of Southern Electric by sunsail 14/07/2008
    Have had a boiler and central heating policy for 14 months now. Which has included 2 services. The first service had to wait several days for parts and then the most recent service has left us without hot water for 7 days now and still no confirmation as to when parts will a. arrive and b. be fitted. We have to phone to find up what is happeneing and are left on hold. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

    Disadvantages Disadvantages poor service, inconsistent figures, stressful, useless, unauthorised debits from account

    Where do I start? March this year I receive an estimated gas and electric bill, this prompted me to call southern electric with "actual readings". This is where the confusion starts, the advisor states we owe lower, I agree with a smile on my face! I say I will pay half this month and the other half next month, the advisor agrees.....they took the whole lot! A few days later I find out when I am declined on a transaction, not happy, I call southern electric, very unhelpfully, they say they need seven days to investigate this and recommend I consult my bank!     Southern Electric is one of the electricity company that I would recommend. They offer cheap electricity and with the Economy 7 tariff, many activities such as heating that consumed lots of electrity could be done during the off peak hour in order to keep the electricity bill low. Also, they provides a wide range of value added service (at a cost) that will keep you sleep well. They are able to provide electrician to fix any electrical problems 24 hours a day.
