Advantages Advantages Prices, Special offers, Friendly staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages Waiting... (often busy), Sometimes things aren't in stock so you need to wait a week

When I was at university, I found the slides projected on the screen at the front blurry so I sat closer to the front at every opportunity but it wasn't always possible and even when nearer the front, it wasn't always clear. I thought it was all the projectors being out of focus but eventually deducted that I needed glasses so off I went to look for an optician. Wandered into Vision Express but being a student, saw their prices and walked straight back out again! However, I remembered the "You should've gone to Spec Savers" TV adverts and their Buy One Get One Free offer so off I went to Spec ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Witing times, Staff

It’s a rare occasion these day’s to walk down your local High Street without passing a range of opticians, all offering new and intriguing offers including ‘buy one get one free’ and ‘Free contact lenses trial’. Personally I find it bewildering and choosing a new optician can become a bit of a chore. Specsavers opticians have been caring for people’s eyes since 1984, and they are now Britain’s leading Optician with over 500 stores and 16 Million customers. Specsavers aim is to give the public a good service at a reasonable and affordable rate ... more

~ MY LOCAL SPECSAVERS~ When I first went for an eye-test quite a few years ago now I did feel slightly nervous, how-ever the staff at my local branch made me feel welcome and ensured me there was nothing to worry about. During my visit here I saw approximately 2 different members of staff whom carried out different tests on my eyes. This included looking into lenses to focus on a balloon in the background of a picture. You are taken into a separate room when the main eye test is carried out and the lights will be dimmed. You will be asked to carry out a number of different things such as ... more

I went to Specsavers for an eye test and was given a prescription and then got glasses from them. I was happy enough with the service at this time, although I didn't get much time from the optician and he didn't realy explain when I should wear my glasses or what my prescription meant. I left happy that I had glasses that improved my distance vision but unsure as to when I should wear them. After a few months I went back to ask if I could wear them more often than just occassionally. I was told that I could wear them as much as I wanted to and that I should have been told at my first ... more

Like the rest of my family I suffer the misfortune of having to wear glasses. It's not that I dislike wearing my specs, in fact I've become quite attached to them and feel rather lost without them. I have had to wear them ever since I was thirteen so I've definitely got used to wearing them. For those that don't wear glasses it's like that feeling you get when you forget to put your watch on! However, what annoys me the most about having to wear glasses is the sheer amount of money it all costs. When I was younger my mum took me for my first couple of tests at Boots, however as neither of us ... more

I first realised i needed glasses when I started university, my nursing diploma was intense and I had to attend many lectures it was during these lectures that I realised that my sight was not what it should be. I used to sit fairly near the back of the class and found that I could not make out many of the words and ones that i could see were blury and somewhat unrecognisable. It was a this point that I decided to move nearer to the front but it did not matter where I sat the words did not become any clearer so it was at that point that i thought i defonatly needed to book myself into have my ... more

Advantages Advantages Large range of glasses, competitively priced, two for one.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too quick re testing, prone to errors

To look at me now, 6 foot tall and just under 13 stone (sorry, don't do metric) it's hard to believe I was only 3lb 10ozs when born very prematurely in the mid 1960's. I thought I'd got away pretty luckily however eye problems surfaced in my late twenties that were put down to my eye muscles not developing properly. This resulted in an operation on both eyes that subsequently failed and later I needed regular botox injections in the eyes to paralyse the muscles. Oh how I wished they'd kept some for my laughter lines! As a result of the above I've been a regular frequenter of opticians and have ... more

Background: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I didn't wear glasses until today... As far as I was concerned I didn't need glasses... I'd done fine without them. I'm 25, so surely too young to be affected because of my age, and surely if I needed glasses I'd have known before now?? Obviously not. I commented a couple of weeks ago something along the lines of 'isn't it difficult to read the TV listings on Sky?' only to be met with my partner insisting it was crystal clear... I'd also mentioned that the text displayed in the Tiger Woods PS2 game was a bit small and hard to read, again, to be met with the ... more
