How Low Can You Go (Customer Service not Price!!)

Advantages: Cheap Prices, Top Branded Footwear
Disadvantages: Poor Customer Service, Cheap and Tacky Clothing Range, Lonsdale

...service. === Who are Sports Soccer ? === Sports Soccer as their name suggests are a supplier of sporting equipment, clothing and accessories and are instantly recognisable by their distinctive Red White and Blue livery. You will generally find one in most major cities, and they operate very much at the lower end of the price scale. They are owned by Mike Ashley, who is also the owner of Newcastle United Football Club. === Who is their market ? ...
...market as other High Street Sports Stores including JJB Sports and JD Sports insofar as they sell all the top quality ranges including Nike, Adidas and Reebok for similar or slightly cheaper prices. Where they differ is in their sale of their own Donnay branded footwear which serves one principal purpose - it is cheap. The idea behind the store is to entice you in by looking at the better known brands, but then to get you to purchase their own cheaper ...

Prices that wont be beaten! But the Service will

Advantages: Huge selection, Fantastic Prices, Great Availability
Disadvantages: Service, Queues

...another one of those general sports store you come across in the town centres such as JJB, JD Sports etc. However, when you enter these stores there is one major difference, the one thing that sets it apart from the others. The price! You can purchase many many items at very reasonable prices and all of these are branded items such as the likes of Reebok, Adidas etc. For example I recently bought a new pair of Reebok trainers for work and paid £15 ...
...would expect from a major sports retailer. They have trainers, sports wear, casual wear, football shirts, coats, jackets, sports equipment. In fact there are not many things I can think off that you would want to find in a sports shop that they don’t have. They even stock ranges of things such as casual shirts as well as the usual sports type tops, in fact I just got a nice Lonsdale casual fleece jacket for only £15. However there is always a down ...

Sports Waste

Advantages: Cheap prices and large stores
Disadvantages: Generally ugly clothes

...now when a massive new Sports World (formerly known as Sports Soccer) opened in a new shopping park just outside of the usual shopping area in Cambridge, I was obliged to find out what it's like. This now not very newish Sports World isn't the only one Cambridge has to offer though, as there is also one in the centre of town - that's not too shabby in size either. What exactly do these shops have to offer? Well I'll be happy to let you know. With ...
...the time. Entering the new Sports World I immediately realised it would be almost impossible to bump into someone because that's just how big it is. As you enter the doors (and through the sneakily disguised security gate things, you know what I mean) there is a staircase straight in front of you. Got to start with the floor I'm on first though. It's not unusual to walk into a shop of Sports World nature and one of the first things you see being ...

THE ONE STOP SPORT SHOP

Advantages: good quality across the range, many top names at good prices
Disadvantages: too many queues, staff are largely morons

...This chain of Sports stores started life as Sport & Ski. Trading in Shopping Malls and stocking winter gear for the skier, in addition to general sports gear like T-Shirts, Polos, Sweats and Jackets. Also, there were always racks of trainers, football boots etc for both Adults and Children. This brought them a niche market. It was a shop you could kit little Johnny out for his new school with some respectable labels like Umbro,. Adidas and the now ...
...saw the stores re-branded as Sports Soccer, indicating the move towards trying to capture the huge Soccer ‘fashion’ market. You can get the latest kits here, plus sportswear with your club’s badge, logo, name or what have you. Unless, that is, you are a follower of a lesser club. You’ll not find many Crewe Alexandra branded shirts here, I guess. I assume the Chain must have the license for Donnay gear – or at least ...

Dunno about Soccer, I wanted to Sock Her

Advantages: Wide range of stock, large stores
Disadvantages: Staff have social skills comparable to a gerbil

...lose? So I ventured into Sports Soccer. This op is based on my experience today with the Milton Keynes branch. Others may be different, although frankly I rather doubt it. First impressions are important, and Sports Soccer certainly impresses. My local shopping centre features not one but TWO Sports Soccer stores – I plumped for the bigger one. The store advertises its presence with huge lit-up signs across its vast shop front, and baskets of footballs ...
...it’s big-name clothes you’re after, Sports Soccer is second only to JJB. It has huge stocks of all the big names – Adidas, Donnay, Nike, Donnay, Reebok, Donnay, you name it, they’ve got it, in a multitude of styles and colours. (I’m informed that Sports Soccer actually have some agreement with Donnay, which explains the prevalence of their slightly crappy gear in the stores.) The prices are pretty competitive too – I picked up two pairs of trousers ...

Inside info from a current employee

Advantages: Low prices, huge selection
Disadvantages: The queues can get long!

...have worked part time for Sports Soccer for a year and a month and I have to say I have enjoyed it. Since working there the store has had its bad times of no managers and it used to be like many of the stores that people have described on here (really disorganised) but now i have a new area manager and a new manager, who are both really good at their jobs. Luckily for me they recognised my hard work and they promoted me to part time supervisor/admin. ...
...can be used at any Sports Soccer store, so before you get annoyed, think, if you dont want the item you bought, there must be SOMETHING in the whole store that you or a relative might want. If your item is honestly faulty, that means a manufacturing fault, not that you don't like it, it will be shown to the manager and they will authorise a refund, as long as the customer has a receipt. So please don't get angry!! See, it's not that bad. We are quite ...

Rugby Is it a sport

Advantages: Fair prices
Disadvantages: Store layout, poor staff training

...mall in Sheffield. Lots of sports shops to choose from, so you would think this would be an easy task. Sports Soccer is a shop which has competitive prices although the staff consists mainly of youngsters who have yet to learn basic social skills. The numbers of times that I have had to listen through their boring conversations with each other about their private lives. Usually, in between, they will tell me the total price of the items but they ...

I bet you had already guessed this one. Why am I doing this review under Sports Soccer? Because I then went to a different Sports Soccer store in Rotherham and they had a small selection of Rugby boots in lots of different sizes. At last a satisfied customer. The staff might ...

...new swimming costume. In Cardiff, Sports Soccer is situated just opposite the Capitol arcade, but if you're not from the area, you can usually find a branch of sports soccer in most relatively large towns. Anyway, back to my search for a swimming costume. Well, I'm afraid to say, that I took one look at Sports Soccer, presumed it was a sports shop catering for football equipment, and walked straight past. It wasn't until serveral months later, when ...
...They have all the usual sports brand names, but the thing they seem to have most of, and also at the best price, is Donnay gear. Donnay seem to make everything form roller blades to volley-balls to nice, tight, relatively smart girlie T-shirts, and everything in between. I bought one of said T-shirts for the huge price of three pounds, and I've worn it to death, only it hasn't died! The quality of donnay stuff seems excellent. Even their socks seem ...

How not to run a company

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: too many to list

My experience of Sports Soccer is similar to the opinion expressed in realeminem’s post. Sports Soccer employed me in the not too distant past, and they were truly the worst organization any individual could waste their time toiling for. The conditions and pay experienced by the majority of the staff paralleled the sweatshops in Asia where most of their stock was made. I was informed by one particularly bitter supervisor that the Donnay sportswear, ...
...explain why the service in Sports Soccer is so poor – In a short termed attempt to cut costs, staff are so demoralised and disorganised because no or little money is invested in proper systems of training or employee enhancement. As a result you have a workforce which despises the company and has the appearance of the living dead. I understand that my experience was limited to the conditions in one individual branch, however from reading the previous ...

...now proudly boasts a new sports wear shop in the name of Sports Soccer. It is located alongside the UGC cinema in the DIY industrial shopping area at Templefields. Being that this shop occupies an industrial ...

The first floor is more or less dedicated to teenage girls and ladies wear and the needy facility for us women of changing ...

...a review on my local Sports Soccer store in Plymouth, although I do think now that it is actually in fact called Sports World. So on first impressions, on walking in to the shop what do I think about it? Well, not a lot! If you have read my review on the Officers' Club, well this shop is even worse than that! For reasons that we shall now find out about. To start off with, I shall begin with the advantages: First off, this is an excellent shop that ...

From children's trainers up to adults top of the range mountain bikes that do everything but make you a cup of tea (OK a bit of an exageration but you know what I mean), you will find everything that you could so wish for. But now on to the disadvantages: This shop ...

INSIDE INFORMATION ABOUT SPORTS SOCCER

Advantages: CHEAP, AND A FUN PLACE TO WORK
Disadvantages: POOR PAY, MANAGERS DONT CARE ABOUT STAFF JUST PROFIT

I am a sports soccer employee and I wholly agree with your views of the shop 100%. I agree that the shop layout is very crampt, and the number of injuries that I have witnessed over the last few months that I have worked there where people have walked into stands and cut them selves etc. It is a serious health and safety problem. The part time staff (like me) who work 10 hour shifts on weekends and after school get treated like crap by full time ...

The management expects the part time staff to do jobs that they and the full time staff should be doing while they drink tea in the back so no wonder we talk about what went on last night and which customer we think is the fittest when the management laze about in the back having about 100000000 smoking breaks and still have there dinner breaks ...

When i finally got served i'd been there for over an hour. This is an excellent shop which is great for value but beware ...

Shopping for sportwear and accessories

Advantages: cheap, branded items, good quality
Disadvantages: long queue's, not much space to move

I've been in many sports shops and found there clothing and footwear to be quite expensive. Then i came across sports soccer and found it was really cheap compared to other sports shops. At sports soccer they sell sports wear obviously for men, women and children. Here are some of the things that they sell there:- trainers jackets sweaters t-shirts socks footballs sport equipment like tennis rackets etc and mnay more items The shop is fairly ...

Disadvantages: Mind-numingly tedious, signifies all the worst things about life

...the stuff to them. Sports Soccer is the sort of establishment that drags the life out of the surrounding places. It ranks up there with Asda, Woolworths, Dixons and PC World. In the same way that you can't walk in to a Dixons and buy a lightbulb, you can't walk in to a sports shop these days and buy sports equipment. My brother is a big squash player. Gets coaching, goes to a club (although he's not yet a fully signed-up member). Yet, finding squash ...
...towering behemoths like Sports Soccer. Perhaps I'm just pining for the days before big box retail and enormous great big shopping centres, back to a simpler day when you could go in to a sports shop and buy sports equipment. Clothing plays a part in sport, but one would think that it is the sole important part. It doesn't really matter whether one has the right equipment, as long as one looks cool while doing it. As far as Sports Soccer goes in ...
