Advantages: Good rates, efficient service Disadvantages: Intenet service not available all the time
My standard life account is the simplest bank account I’ve ever had, and it pays excellent interest rates. It can be operated by Internet or by telephone, but I find the ‘phone fastest - a call to transfer money in or out rarely takes more than 2 minutes. The customer service is invariably excellent and the staff seem to know what they’re talking about (a pleasant change from some other banks run from call centres). The biggest benefit is that ... ...interest; great if you have a number of savers in your family.
Other banks have copied Standard Life’s ideas since they started up a couple of years ago, but even though there may be slightly better rates available elsewhere I’m sticking with them because they’re so speedy and efficient. ...

Advantages: Better than 'standard' bank rates Disadvantages: Not good enough in today's market
.... Standard Life Bank (SLB from now on!) offered a great deal on their Deposit Account - but it's not the gem it once was. I had sold my house and was renting whilst looking for a new one, so I was temporarily 'cash rich' and wanted a good home for the money. SLB were one of the first deposit accounts to offer 'instant access' AND a high rate of interest, stepped according to the value of the deposits held (There's also a 50-day account, which ... ...of the cash in my Standard Life account to pay into my Standard Life mortgage - which IS a good product. I was told that they couldn't transfer the money directly - so I had to transfer it to my current account (3 days), write a cheque and post it (1 day) and then wait for the clearance (6 days due to weekend). 10 days to move money from one hand to the other!! That wrote 'THE END' in very big letters!
So it's so long and thanks for all the fish ...

Advantages: Multiple accounts and account names Disadvantages: Internet functionality is limited
I like to use standard life for budgeting. If for example I pay my car insurance annually and it is for arguments sake £480. I will open an account in the name Car insurance and every month as soon as my pay hits my currnet account I have £40 taken out for the car insurance. I do the same when saving for holidays and on a quaterly basis I do it for electricity and phone. I know you can pay the utilities monthly but I would rather have it all in my ... ...saving this way is that I have no bad months when life ends because i have to cover 2 or 3 big bills as the money is their for it. Secondly I am getting an ok rate of interest on my money..certainly better than in my current account. Thirdly and most importantly I know once I have budgeted and the money has been put away for the car insurance and the utilities and holidays and gifts and emergencies ( I have a seperate account), that whatever is left ...

I had an account with standard life and was quite pleased at the time. I thought I would find it useful as somewhere to place funds which were not required and would earn a little interest meanwhile. However, the problem is that we all get so many invites that by taking them up we end up having more accounts thatn we need or can cope with. Ignoring how good or bad they are as bankers the fact is they are no longer attractive since their facilities ...

Standard Life Bank offers a variety of Services to its customers. One of them is their range of Savings Accounts. There is a Direct Access Savings Account, a 50 Day Notice Account, which gives you slightly more interest.
And then there are two ISAs: yet again a Direct Access and a 50 day notice Account. They can also provide businesses with a range of accounts.

Access to my account is via phone or the internet. I just transfer money from and to my current account whenever I like and whithin 5 working days the money will be tranferred. They send me a statement every three months (my choice) and they keep me updated when they have to change the interest rate. Banking just couldn't be ...

...have just found that the Standard Life Bank will allow my club to open an account to enable us to get more than the measley amount of interest that is offered by the high street banks and buiolding societies. By ringing them I was able to open a 4.6% interest deposit account that is linked to the clubs origonal cheque account, all this over the phone, and the lady who answered the phone was most helpful and we developed a business like rapport.
