Cosy cottage, penthouse suite, or massive mansion

Advantages: Exciting fun expandable cages
Disadvantages: Hideously expensive

This review is all thanks to the newest member of our ever growing family, strawberry the hamster. I have been pleading for a hamster for ages and James finally caved in and off we went to the pet shop. Now I was planning to buy a budget cage, you know the kind with a plastic tray with wire walls and roof. James being the big baby that he is suggested that the kids would probably prefer to have rotastak (more like he would prefer it). So we plunged ...
...£30. I kept hamsters when I was younger and had rotastak then as well, as did my sister, so I have had a fair bit of experience with it, and I thought I would tell you all about it. Rotastak is a type of housing for syrian hamsters predominantly, although it can easily be adapted for mice, russian hamsters, and other small rodents. It is made by armitage pet care, and is available in most pet shops and from several websites on the net. Rotastak ...

Fun, but then there's the price

Advantages: Can be expanded limitlessly, more interesting than wire cages
Disadvantages: Extremely expensive, aimed at children who could be irresponsible

Rotastak cages have been around for an absolute age now, and I always wanted one for my hamster as a kid, but we stuck with a wire cage. However, roll on forward years and years, and this year I got two cute dwarf hamsters. And I immediately decided to get a Rotastak cage. Here's what I think of Rotastak. ~~~ Appearance ~~~ Let's begin with the appearance. The cages seem, mostly, to be marketed at children. This is the first criticism I have - ...
...them, and obviously, a pet hamster. And if a child is left to care for a hamster alone, they may not be quite responsible enough and neglect it, or fail to take care of it properly, resulting in the death of the hamster. The cages are mainly plastic, though some do have small wire sections on them, like the circular room, which has wire right at the very top. Otherwise, fresh air comes to the hamster through holes in the roof of each room. Each ...

The Pink Palace

Advantages: Entertaining, large amount of space
Disadvantages: Expensive, not exactly gerbil proof!

After years of my parents telling me I wasn't allowed another pet after I didn't take care of my budgie when I was 9, as soon as I moved out several months ago I decided that I wanted a pet as soon as possible. The rules of my contract for my flat are that I was not allowed any pets whatever. However, I decided I could probably get away with something small in a cage. I was having difficulty deciding between some kind of rodent, bird or fish (although ...
...tropical fish previously, so that was probably not the best idea). Anyway, I decided to just look around Pets At Home and see what they had. It was upon this trip where the Pink Palace caught my eye. Made by Rotastak (owned by Armitage), the Pink Palace is a cage made for either mice, hamsters or gerbils. I decided there and then that I was having this cage, and that I would get a pair ( what I would later find out to be a breeding pair) of gerbils. ...

House prices rise again

Advantages: Happy hamster
Disadvantages: costly, fiddly to assemble

Take our two teenagers, a girl and a boy, add to that a house full of pets and it was only a matter of time before they would want a pet of their own. So when our teenagers came with us to the pet shop we had a feeling that they would look to see what was on offer. Our normal twenty minute trip to pick up food for the pets turned into a two hour shopping trip where all manner of pets were discussed. Eventually they both decided on hamsters, then ...
...teenage girl was the first to select, being a girly girl all things pink are the order of the day. This was fast becoming an expensive day; we paid about £40 for her Rotastak cage alone. Then add bedding, food, treats oh and the hamster itself. But she was happy and the hamster would have hours of fun in her new home. What does it look like? Well for a start it is pink, really pink, very very pink. The ground floor (the largest area) is clear, ...

Rotastak Adventure

Advantages: Fun, versatile and colourful
Disadvantages: some attachments a little insecure

For my Daughter's 4th birthday we were completely at a loss as to what we should buy her. What on earth do you buy for a child who is thoroughly spoilt for choice with toys due to birthdays and Christmas combined with over enthusiastic grannies? So after long deliberation we settled on getting her her own first pet. The choices were between a goldfish and a hamster - I have a small house so put my foot down on dogs or ponies! So we decided on a ...
...look. There we spotted the rotastack adventure suite which contains your traditional rotastack pod - A metal and plastic cage with a platform at either end and tubing to allow the hamster/gerbil/mouse etc to climb up on the platforms. There was also the rotastak maxi-house which is a totally plastic, deep sided living area - the hamster can't scurry out past us when we open this one! There were tubes to connect the two living areas. Also included ...

The Pink Palace.

Advantages: Easy to watch pet, Funky looking
Disadvantages: Hard to clean, not easy to put together.

Me not being the richest of people i couldnt afford the pink palace, which i was desparate for the accomadate my very spoilt hamster. So for my 14th birthday i begged my dad for it. Which he kindly got me. Once i had unwrapped it and taken it out of its box, i was puzzled, hundreds of little bits and bobs lay scattered all over the sitting room floor. Not being incredibly bright i asked my mum to piece it together for me, which she managed...not ...
...helpful, that is the writing being in a diffrent laungage and the pictures bleak. However, it was finally put together. My hamster lived in a old fashioned cage, big, hefty and not very eye catching. So i thought that it would be over the moon to see that it would finally be moving into a stylish palace. But it wasn't. Infact it tried to chew its way out several times, and seemed to spent all day and night in the large tube swirling around the outside. ...

Rotastak Cages, Mansions, Standard and extras

Advantages: Easily Expandable, Fun for you as well as your pet!
Disadvantages: Very expensive

...but it was just a standard one with wire mesh and walls and roof. I soon got bored of this cage and found it annoying as my hamster was always kicking sawdust all over my bedroom floor which was a nightmare to clean up! So, I decided to buy a rotastak one, I decided to go for Rotastak because I can have fun with the cage as well by constantly expanding it! I bought the Maxi Mansion cage for £49.99. I almost bought the standard cage but decided compared ...
...or not youve bought a standard or maxi pack, and they also normally have a bedroom, which is connected to the top of the living room by a couple of tubes which your pet can cimb up or down. The Rotastak cages also have a variety of holes in the roofs and the ceiling which, when theyre not in use can be plugged up with a bung that Rotastak provide with the cage, when you want to add another room these bungs are easily removed and the extra room can ...

Pink Palace Rotastak Cage

Advantages: Bright and spacious
Disadvantages: Fiddly to clean

I bought my daughter a hamster for her birthday along with one of the small Rotastak cages. We then discoverd that the cage wasn't really big enough for the hamster. Whilst in our local garden centre I came across the Pink Palace cage. It was also half price so cost me £25 (£5 less than the original cage I bought). Of course, as soon as my daughter opened the present she wanted it assembled. The cage itself wasn't a problem, the spiral tube was what ...
...(which obviously stops them coming apart at a later date) but this did mean they were very hard to put together in the first place. The cage probably took me about 40 minutes to put together in the end (which doesn't seem too bad but feels like an eternity when you have an 8 year old nagging you to be quick). The end result though is quite pleasing. I have one very happy daughter and hamster. The cage is made from a good quality plastic with metal ...

tunnel of love

Advantages: Creates an exciting natural home
Disadvantages: need to check everything is connected all the time

Hamsters in the wild live in an underground maze of tunnels and burrows in the dessert so they are protected from the heat during the day and the cold at night and also hungry predators looking for a meal. The Rotastak system provides your pet with a natural habitat with units for burrows and tubes that connect to rooms made out of clear plastic to enable you to watch your pet explore and exercise. Some animals may gnaw at the ends of the tubes ...
...tubes, these units are also suitable for mice and gerbils although mice and dwarf hamsters will need ladders to enable them to ascend the tubes. You can add new units on and such additions include Space stations: to join two cages together Carry case: to take your pet away or to the vet in Roundabout: where the bottom rotate to exercise your pet Dinning room: with a pull our feeding draw Maze Unit: another exercise addition Burrow Basement:to ...

Gerbils paradise

Advantages: Really fun for rodents
Disadvantages: expensive, hard to put together!

The cage im reveiwing today is the Rotastak creepy castle cage. I decided to get my gerbil Scruff a new cage because i was told that in the wild gerbils live in the desert and make tunnels under the sand and that they love to burrow. The cage he had was no way big enough for him to burrow, so i went on e bay and brought him a brand new Creepy castle cage for £30 ( which was a bargin as they retail at £55). When the cage came it took me and my sister ...
...anti gnawing rings that you put on the tubes were really hard to fit on and the instructions were not very clear. The cage itself (once assembled) is fantastic for hamsters, mice, gerbils. The creepy castle has one big maxi unit, two of the round shape homes, two bed compartments, and a carrybox which can be unatatched from the cage so that it can be used to take your furry friend to the vet etc. I fill the carrybox with sand for my gerbil so he ...

Measure your hamster first!

Advantages: A natural environment for hamsters
Disadvantages: Not so good for larger animals, or babies

I bought loads and loads of second hand rotastak stuff for my hamsters so I could keep them in my room at University. The trouble I found with normal cages is that they are noisy if your hamsters have a penchant for keeping you awake with constantly gnawing the bars! Rotastak was the option which had minimal bars, and I assumed that they'd be quieter. Well they weren't. Despite Rotastak cages having less bars, my female hamster zoomed in on the ones ...
...parts of the 3 storey cage clatter as she does it! My other, larger, male hamster became very upset. I think it's because he couldn't climb the bars and do his "monkey bar" tricks that he used to do in the traditional cage he so loves, and he's also a lot bigger than the girl, and can't climb the Rotastak tubes to get from level to level very easily. He just wasn't happy with it, so I moved him back into a normal cage. Yesterday I bought another ...

Rotastak cage, Nice to look at but has a few problems

Advantages: Attractive, Fun
Disadvantages: Fiddly, Problems with water bottle and wheel and Expensive

The Rotastak Pink Palace cage is wonderfully bright, interesting to look at and is perfect for any little girls small animal. The cage itself is made of very thick plastic which is hardwearing and doesn't scratch easily. I initially bought this product because it looked as though my hamster would have a lot of fun with the tubes and the different sections. I will begin with the main advantages of the cage. The tubes are tons of fun for the animal ...
...and they don't even have to be attached at all. It comes with several plugs which you can use on the exposed holes if you wish to remove the tubes from the cage. It comes with a feeding bowl made of very thick plastic, an exercise wheel and a water bottle. It is an excellent starter kit and there are many attachments and units you can add to it to make it more exciting. If you have cats which may attack small animals in the generic wire cages this ...

Great, expandable caging...

Advantages: Looks great, fun for hamster, easy to clean and maintain.
Disadvantages: Takes up a lot of room, less security and expensive.

Originally, I had a bog-standard metal wire hamster cage with plastic bottom but my friend donated me a few bits and pieces of Rotastak caging that I decided to expand. QUALITY The cages are great quality and are heavy-duty plastic. Several times i dropped the caging and it never broke! The fittings for the caging are sometimes a little off. The plugs have to be secured with metal wiring which I found was easily bent and not very reliable! PRICE ...
...very expensive although it is possible to buy them a lot cheaper online. AVAILABILITY Rotastak cages are available in every pet shop I have ever visited and are very popular online. CLEANLINESS The cages are easy to keep clean, I used to throw it all in the bath with some animal-friendly dienfectant and take the shower to it! It worked brilliant. After about a year I did find the bottom became a little stained although I guess this is all than ...

It's Pink - Will Hammy like it!

Advantages: Colourful, Bright, Keep the little ones quite for hours.
Disadvantages: Pricey, a little awkward to clean out, A bit enclosed.

 ROTASTAK  Rotastak is owned by Armitage’s a pet company with over 100 years experience. Armitage’s make the famous doggy choc drops the ones you see every Christmas in the doggy Christmas stockings. They also sell the Gussie range for fish and various items for cats and dogs. ...a lot of comments from customers informing me their hamsters don't like to use the 'double circular tubes' - may be this is something to do with the height? The mice however shimmy up with no problems. This 3 tier cage includes a top tower or sleeping compartment, 2nd level contains the wheel and this area is also suitable for keeping a dish of food there. The bottom level is very spacious and you could even add a little litter tray there as most ...

Rotastak Deluxe Starter Home

Advantages: Easily expandable
Disadvantages: Can be a little pricey

I used to keep hamsters a lot when i was younger.....and now i have a house of my own i decided it would be nice to have an additional furry friend in the family. The wide range of cages avaliable on the market seemed a little daunting at first. I was determined not to overspend on the many varieties of luxury mansions calling me from the shelves. Eventually i found this rotastak starter kit. A perfct size to get started....allowing you to add extensions ...
...the cost a little :-) I paid £24.95 for this cage, from pets at home. I am pleased with it, and my little hamster horace seems happay as well. The cages are easy to put together and take apart for cleaning etc. The wheel is unexpectably quiet, meaning horace can run to his hearts content whilst the rest of us are sleeping. A well recommended brand, although can be a little pricey if you start with the larger cages. ...
