A slave to the Starbucks Review with images

AdvantagesGreat coffee, realxing and well-maintained stores

DisadvantagesPricey and apparently, evil

"...evil the mighty corporation of Starbucks was. Saturating the market, torpedoing small retailers and aggressive expansion in expensive locations all made Starbucks – in my Marketing lecturer’s eyes at least – a bigger threat to human existence than rabid-cosmic-polar-ice-shift-storms. So I happily joined the anti-Starbucks parade, knowing no better. Nowadays, I can’t keep away from the places. They rock my world. ===“Better make it quick kiddo, in ..." Read review

Under the grips of Starbucks

AdvantagesAddictive, costly and taking over the world

Disadvantagesgood coffee, good service, good selection...

"...reveled in my hatred for Starbucks and everything they stood for. I despised them for their corporate branded image. I condemned them for their over the top prices. I recoiled at their growing popularity as one by one they popped up on most city street corners. I categorically refused to be sucked into the brand and for several years avoided every setting foot inside one. Last year whilst working in Glasgow, I allowed myself to be taken in and ..." Just a venti-decaf-skinny-macchiato to go please Diamond review Review with images

Advantagesdelicious coffee, huge variety, good food, comfy seating

Disadvantagesnot enough fair trade, very expensive, could be cleaner

"...more than 7000 branches of Starbucks worldwide, so they must be doing something right. Is it just that they make good coffee, I wonder? For much as they are maligned for their shaky ethics, they do make a mean cup of coffee. I can even stomach a skinny (low-fat) latte, and find it tastier than a regular coffee made elsewhere. Maybe it's more to do with choice and variety: We used to just be offered coffee, or maybe cappuchino if we were lucky. Now ..." Read review

TWO VENTI LATTES FOR DOOGEL PLEASE

AdvantagesThe variety and range of blends

DisadvantagesThe price

"The Starbucks invasion has come to Northern Ireland – albeit in the shape and form of 3 stores so far, although we do have one on the way and expecting the arrival of more imminently! There are two stores in Belfast city centre itself – Castle Lane, Cornmarket (a stand alone store), and in Castlecourt Shopping Centre. The first Starbucks to open its doors in the province back in August 2004 was at Junction One shopping village, in Antrim. ..." Read review

The Lair of the White Whale . . .

AdvantagesBest customer service going

DisadvantagesPricey, globalised

"...Psion Series 5 review) in Starbucks at 7.30 in the morning. So if I can't convey the atmosphere under these circumstances, there isn't much hope for me is there . . . Prices added 19/11/2001. Nitty Gritty ------------ Starbucks is an enormous American chain of coffee shops. As such they are the target of anti-globalisation campaigns, which may or may not be just. They aren't a restaurant chain, so this category is slightly misleading, but they ..." Read review

Relax with a mice cup of coffee

Advantages lots of choice

Disadvantages a bit pricey

"...A few months ago a Starbucks café opened in Hereford town centre and as I had watched the shop being refitted over the previous months, I was waiting for it to open so that I could go in and try the different kinds of coffee they sell. There is only this Starbucks café in Hereford and having read reviews about how good they were and also being a real coffee lover, I had to go in and try a cup. The first thing that caught my attention when I entered ..." Read review

Do Believe the Hype, But Not Too Much.

AdvantagesThe atmosphere, the ethics, the creativity, the aprons.

DisadvantagesAn inferior flavour to certain other coffee chains.

"Starbucks are one of the 'big three' coffee chains active in the UK, the others being Costa and Caffe Nero. Whilst the other two offer variations on the traditional Italian theme, Starbucks is unashamedly American about everything other than the names of the coffee they offer. Even the sizes are American. What is it about Starbucks which makes it a coffee shop everyone returns to? -- Ambience -- Starbucks coffee shops are invariably relaxed, ..." Read review

The Moby Dick connection

Advantagesdelicious food and drink, lots of stores.

Disadvantagespricey, often crowded.

"Starbucks is the most well known coffee shop. Like, ever. The first store opened in the 1970's. The name doesn't come from the expensive beverages sold in store but from Herman Melville’s famous novel-Moby Dick. (So famous that my spell checker failed to check the word Moby) Starbuck is a character in the novel that serves as first mate on the whaling ship Pequod, under the command of the insane Captain Ahab. Starbuck tries to put an end to Ahab's ..." Read review

Starbucks Review

AdvantagesGreat coffee, nice surroundings

DisadvantagesExpensive

"Starbucks is a global coffee house chain; in fact it's the biggest coffee house company in the world. It was founded in 1971 in Seattle, Washington, and now has over 15,000 stores in 44 countries. It enjoyed a huge expansion in the 1990's which included its first chain outside North America (Tokyo in 1996) and the first UK Starbucks in 1998. As well as coffee, Starbucks sell a wide variety of beverages including Hot Chocolate, Fruit Smoothies and ..." Read review

Starbucks - a somewhat welcome invasion of the world!

AdvantagesReliability, vegan paninis!!!!, convenience, good prices, always easy to find

DisadvantagesSlightly invasion-like

"...happened. There are a few Starbucks places in Dublin, but not enough to pose a threat to the lovely little cafés. And to be honest, since moving to London nearly a year ago, I have embraced the Starbucks phenomenon. There is one on almost every street corner, and to me this has become a good thing. Why? Well, you always know what you're going to get with Starbucks. You know the drinks, the food, etc will be the same in each one you go to. You know ..." Read review

The Coffee Capital of the High Street

AdvantagesA nice quiet peaceful coffee experience

DisadvantagesHigh proces for some coffees

"...Tesco's - everywhere there's oxygen. Starbucks - thankfully these are growing faster than you can drink your coffee !! I've been to Starbucks in Southampton, Swindon, Cardiff, Bristol and too many other places to mention and I've always been thoroughly impressed with the quality of the coffee and teas. The environment ----------------------- Don't expect chart hits and pop anthems. This is for serious coffee-lovers only. DO expect copies of ..." Read review

Bitter to the last gritty drop.

AdvantagesNothing that you can't find elsewhere.

DisadvantagesHorrendous prices, ignorant service, terrible products.

"...frankly - shocking visits to Starbucks I can say that it does hold true for them. -Shop- Okay, as I enter, I'm left in no doubt whatsoever that I have indeed entered a Starbucks cafe. This is because they have helpfully affixed their logo to pretty much everything here; they'd probably start stickering the customers if they sat still long enough. Under other considerations, however, it is unsurprising that this cafe makes great use of its ..." Read review

Starbucks

AdvantagesNice sized cups of tea

DisadvantagesPricey, no comfey seats, no trays

"Created in the 1970's, Starbucks must be one of the most famous world-wide coffee chain. It is quite comforting in a way to know that no matter where in the world you are going, there is a good chance that you will find a Starbucks - comforting if it is something that you are used to. In Inverness where I live there are 2 Starbucks stores, one is in the shopping centre in town, and the other is located within a Borders bookshop store in the town. ..." Read review
