Advantages Advantages My first choice for a sore throat

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Whenever I have a sore throat or blocked nose generally my first port of call before the doctors is to get a packet of strepsils as I find these generally the best/strongest over the counter medicine you can buy. According to an article I read Strepsils have been in production since 1958, and contain two active ingredients, namely amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol. These ingredients are mild antiseptics, which can kill bacteria associated with mouth and throat infections. The article goes on to say though that as indicated on the packet, research has not shown the presence of an ... more

Advantages Advantages Works well for a time

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive for what they are

Of late and in this cold weather I have been getting a lot of colds and flu and just bugs in general really. The other night I was at my mates house and as time went on my throat got sorer and sorer to the point it was not only killing me I was losing my voice really badly! I simply felt rough and knew I had a bit of a cold as it was. My mate had a box of these in lemon and honey flavour and me, well I had high hopes for these helping me out as I'd never tried them before and I was really very sore! The Packaging: The box is white and yellow and on the front of the box in black and yellow ... more

    Advantages Advantages taste nice

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

As you can tell by my reviews, I literally tried everything I could get my hands on to get rid of the cold that I had and this is yet another thing I bought. To be honest, whenever I get a cold I always buy Strepsils as when I'm finding it hard to breathe they always soothe my throat and make me feel I can get through the day and the best flavour for me is the Honey & Lemon lozenges. I bought a packet of 8 to start me off with and that's all I needed to buy as I had gotten rid of my cold by then but they come in various pack sizes. PACKAGING These Strepsils come in a rectangular shapes box ... more

Advantages Advantages great for sore throats

Disadvantages Disadvantages may be too big for little ones to suck on

From time to time I somehow develop a coarse sore throat, most often in winter months which are always a pain. For a slight sore throat I will buy the cheaper and more readily available packs of halls soothers from a corner shop but when I am feeling particularly run down I definitely opt for these packs of strepsils. Last time I got honey and lemon, with a box of 36 lozenges costing me about £3.50 from Boots which isn't half bad considering what they do in terms of pain relief! They are a circular yellow lozenge which contain 2 antiseptic ingredients: 1.2mg of 2,4-Dichlorobenzyl alcohol and 0 ... more

Advantages Advantages Taste and smell lovely, effective

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not very long lasting, a bit too moreish!!

I'm currently living at home with my Mum due to circumstances (I have recently had a beautiful baby and am not moving in with my boyfriend just yet). Unfortunately, due to my Mum working in a busy school, she often brings back a sore throat or cough, and due to my anemia (which causes low immunity) I often catch it within a day or two - not great! Last week my Mum was ill with a sore throat and cough, and mid-week, I began feeling quite ill as well - a sore throat, ear ache and I generally felt very un-well. I went to the doctor, who looked at me like an alien and reccomended that I simply ... more

Advantages Advantages Taste good, antiseptic action

Disadvantages Disadvantages Results too short lived

Whenever my other half gets Man Flu, the first thing he does is buy Strepsils (followed shortly afterward by booking the undertaker of course), always honey & lemon. The last time I had a sore throat from a cold, I used the rest of the pack since they were in the cupboard anyway. I love the taste of them and find them very soothing while you are sucking on them, but unfortunately it doesn't last, for me anyway. I find it hard to have a soothed throat for most of the day while keeping within the stated dose, I could eat them like tic tacs. They come in a little cardboard box which tells us the ... more

Strepsils Honey and Lemon. Recently having had a sore throat and cold I bought a packet of Strepsils honey and lemon from Asda. The packet that I bought contained 24 lozenges for £3. Strepsils have been around for as long as I can remember and are very reliable offering a soothing effect to those who have sore throats. They are fairly short acting and do not cure the sore throat but rather sooth the symptoms of dryness, soreness and minor irritation. Packaging. The strepsil lozenges are in a box and inside there are three sealed packs of 8 lozenges in a handy blister pack so that you can ... more

Advantages Advantages calm down throat infections

Disadvantages Disadvantages dont do much for pain usually

Over the past winter I have suffered a lot of different colds, coughs and flues. I think that working with children makes me more likely to come into contact with all the bugs and colds that are passed around. I normally just go to the shop and pick up whatever is cheapest or whichever brand of cough sweets is available cheapest, though I have found that Strepsils Honey and Lemon lozenges are probably one of the best cough sweets to pick up when I have a sore throat. Strepsils Honey and Lemon lozenges are used to treat a sore throat, they contain antiseptic ingredients to stop your throat ... more

Advantages Advantages Work fast and are really effective

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I have personally been using Strepsils Lozenges for many years and I continue to do so now. There seems to be a lot of different sorts of flavours to choose from now, far more than there ever used to be, in fact. I do think however, that out of all of the various flavours, perhaps my favourites are the honey and lemon ones as I think that these just seem to work better for me personally. My husband also agrees with me and we always choose these ones in preference to the other flavours. They are very widely available and I buy mine with the supermarket shop. They are in the same aisle as all ... more

Advantages Advantages Taste nice, work to soothe throat

Disadvantages Disadvantages Effects don't last the 2 hours between doses

When I have a sore throat and stuffed nose I tend to use some sort of liquid medicine such as Lemsip or Beechams teamed up with lockets or Halls soothers however when I was in my local Asda store last year I noticed that their Strepsils were on offer at half price and so decided to buy them instead of my usual Lockets. A packet of Strepsils is usually £2.80 for a 24 pack and £3 for a 36 pack obviously this makes the 36 pack much better value. Strepsils are available in a wide variety of flavours so there should be a flavour that will suit you, Honey & LemonOriginalWarmOrange Vitamin ... more
