Advantages Advantages Enjoyable, family viewing, you get emotionally drawn to the performers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Goes on for 3 months, time consuming

I know when Autumn has arrived as my television viewing suddenly has a regular structure. On Sunday evenings after the children have been put to bed, I watch American football while reading the paper. On Saturdays however, there is a more genteel programme on BBC1 to watch - Strictly Come Dancing. This year however, not only do I have the additional option of watching a daily half hour update in the BBC2 chat show 'Strictly Come Dancing - It Takes Two', but the weekly results show is shown on Sunday, meaning there is no day when I can't get my 'Strictly' fix. = THE CONCEPT OF THE SHOW = ... more

Advantages Advantages glitter, sequins, hilarious entertainment, beautiful to watch

Disadvantages Disadvantages results show is a bit dragged out.

Every September, I start to get a bit excited. Not just because it is time for the kids to go back to school, but because the nights start to draw in, and one of my favourite television programmes starts a new season. A few years ago, I would not have believed that I would be saying this, but we had my in-laws come to stay once, and they asked to watch it, and from then on I have been a bit hooked. I'm the sort of person who doesn't really bother that much about what is on the telly, but this is something I now watch rather religiously. The current season started a couple of weeks ago, and is ... more

Advantages Advantages Entertaining, family fun, interesting, good mix of celebrities.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None.

My parents and grandparents were all dancers and took lessons in ballroom and old time dancing for years. As a child, I spent many a happy evening or afternoon with my grandparents and lots of other people of their generation, watching them dance in various halls and sometimes trying myself. But I never took any lessons myself. When the first series of Strictly Come Dancing appeared on TV, I didn't really watch it. I didn't avoid it, but I just never ended up on that channel at that time. Over the next couple of series, I watched the odd programme or two, but this series is the first time I ... more

    Advantages Advantages Traditional TV

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Too much hype

So, the BBC are finally going up against the X Factor with 'Strictly' on Saturday nights, a commercial move that is not in their remit and one that has angered Simon Cowell. Like Cowells money-maker the BBC has dumped an older judge and replaced them with young totty. Experienced and aging choreographer Aileen Phillips is out and previous winner and eye-candy Alesha Dixon ( the BBC operate a 15% ethnic quota) is in, the type of younger girl the BBC are employing these days. It's cringing watching her judge the celebrities and gawd only knows what the professional dancers think of her. The ... more

Advantages Advantages Format that works, great dancing, colour and music

Disadvantages Disadvantages For ME: the main presenter, the celebrities who actually aren't.

It's nearly time for the weekly results show, causing me to reflect on why I watch this show. I'm not a fan of reality TV and I don't watch the X Factor and have only occasionally seen Britain's Got Talent. I didn't watch the first Strictly Come Dancing, back in 2004 either. I'm not sure which was the first I watched all the way through as there were probably a couple of series where I watched a few, when I had nothing else to do. Gradually I got hooked and I hate to miss it now despite.............. well, more of that later. First What is it? For anyone who hasn't seen it, the format is ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good family entertainment

Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit too long in it's present form, could do with some new dances

Strictly Come Dancing Series Saturday night - you're either in the Strictly camp or X-Factor. In our house the girls watch Strictly on BBC 1 and the boys watch X-Factor (ITV)and then we catch up on Sunday with whatever we haven't watched. What's It All About? For those people who have lived in a bubble for the last 6 years, Strictly Come Dancing is a dance competition, where professional dancers are teamed up with celebrities. It is presented by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly. The celebrities are made up of sports personalities, actors and actresses and presenters etc, both young and more mature ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good fun.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Miserable celebs.

I would just like to write a review on Strictly Come Dancing, which is one of those shows in which celebrities are partnered up with professional dancers in order to dance with them week by week and one gets voted off each week as we shall soon find out. There are normally twelve celebrities of one description or another, ranging from soap stars; through sports stars, to top politicians. The show starts off with six women and six men, and in the past they have been partnered up with their professional dance partner prior to the first live show taking place. However this year those who are ... more

Advantages Advantages DANCING - EXCELLENT FOR HEALTH

Disadvantages Disadvantages HARD WORK, NEEDS PERSISTANCE AND PATIENCE

Its a sad fact that Ballroom dancing is not so popular as it was in the 1950`s to 80`s so to see it brought back to the "Telly" again was a real treat. Here`s my thoughts on the programs so far. PRESENTERS Bringing Bruce Forsyth in as one of the presenters was predictable but considering he is a "Twinkletoes" himself very understandable. His two lady partners were as you would expect, Lovely Ladies but I would personally have liked to have seen Angela Rippon alongside him. She epitomises dancing and would not have been quite so overshadowed by Bruce. A superb dancer too ! YES, I do know who ... more

    Advantages Advantages Superb dancing.

Disadvantages Disadvantages The runner up should have won.

THE FINAL:- I must first point out that this review is on the Final Night, not the whoile series, as I feel a FINAL is a FINAL and should be judged as so. So having said that I feel that MATT WAS ROBBED. After the first three dances, my better half and I could not really decide who to vote for, and as there were two more dances it is only right not to vote. I thought up to this stage that three of the Judges (Len not included) may well have written their comments before the contest had even begun. As usual they seemed to ignore any foot work faults that Elisha made, only viewing her from the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages The Sunday show can be a bit repetitvie

I started watching Strictly Come Dancing a couple of series ago. I didn't think I would enjoy watching people dancing around but now I can't get enough! Every year I say that I am going to take a dancing class but never get round to it! This series has started off really strong and I think it is going to be a very close competition. I think the weakest people have now been eliminated and I am looking forward to the men and women joining together next week - I am sure it will be a fantastic show! Although many people say that Bruce Forsyth ruins the show, I completly disagree! At the end of the ... more
