I wish I was at Glastonbury tonight ....

Advantages: Available absolutely EVERYWHERE
Disadvantages: Can make you into a fuzzy brained idiot after a minor application....

...three shivering teenagers sharing a bulmers can behind the community school disco in the middle of winter? Is it the remnants of Diamond White that lie in the gutter outside the pub that showed the England game on its large-screen TV last night? One way or another cider needs an image makeover, as none of the things that we think of when we play word association with cider are positive things. Cider is like those STUPID lederhosen/pedal pushers/pink ...
...your Mother bought you when you were four and made you wear when you were out playing. We have all experienced it. It is just rather odd thing to be still doing it as an adult. I had always presumed that there MUST be grown-up cider drinkers out there as there are millions of gallons of the stuff drank every year and bottles and taps in most pubs I used to go into. Then four years ago, I met one of them, I liked him, I tried some cider, I liked ...

Advantages: Tastes good, cheap and gets you pretty pissed!
Disadvantages: You could start fancying your family !

...Cornwall than anywhere else! Bulmers was founded in Hereford in 1887 by Percy Bulmer, the son of a local clergyman and made 4000 gallons in the first year. In 2006 Bulmers makes 65% of the five million hectolitres of cider sold annually in the UK. Strongbow is the most popular of the ciders produced by Bulmers, but they do also produce Scrumpy Jack and Woodpecker. Strongbow is exported across Europe and Scandinavia, the USA, Asia Pacific, and the ...
...I - for one - like to support British manufacturers and farmers, and tend to look for British produce in the supermarket when I am shopping. So, it's good to be doing my bit for old blighty when I am getting mullered of a weekend as well! Unlike Wine, Champagne, and Whisky, Cider does not mature with age, so it is important to enjoy it sooner rather than later! In fact, the 2 litre bottle I bought advises that it should be consumed within 3-days ...

Get some cider inside her

Advantages: A change from lager, Not too expensive, Less humiliating than buing Diamond White
Disadvantages: Some people may find it a bit too sweet or gaseous, Not on tap in many pubs

What sort of images does the word "cider" conjure up for you? Jokes about country folk and sheep perhaps? Or how about teenagers drinking the stuff while sitting in bus shelters and trying to look cool? I know most of you (UK readers at least!) will surely have tried cider at some point in their lives; probably as something of a "soft" alcoholic drink and introduction to booze. Given that cider has such an image, it in not surprising that so many ...
...as they feel they have outgrown it and are vaguely embarrassed to order it down the pub - so quite a few people I have met have been shocked to find me quaffing it at the grand old age of 24! Cider, for the confused amongst you, is basically fermented apple juice - I think it is known as "hard cider" or "real cider" in the USA to distinguish it from the fruit juice. But there is a little more to it than just fruit and bacteria, as cider makers are ...

Served with Rat Droppings and Dust

Advantages: Refreshing
Disadvantages: Maybe a bit too sweet for some.

Feel bloated after lager? why not try cider. Out shopping this week, I decided to pick up some Strongbow cider. Not my normal choice but, after putting on a few pounds, lager just left me feeling even fatter. History ------- Well we all know the story of Mr Newton and the apple but, after visiting the Strongbow web site, I was taken a little further in the history of cider making and the story behind Mr Strongbow (Richard De Clare), an Irish adventurer ...
...cider during celebrations. This site is well worth a visit if only to see how we have changed from using ponies to steel machinery to make our cider. Made in England by HP Bulmer Ltd, this Australian cider is just one of many on our supermarket shelves today. Packaging ---------- Oh where do I start? These come in cans (yes I think you may have guessed that), and bottles. Now I do not have all the different packages with me and will tell you about ...

Russell Crowe

Advantages: Wide availability, cans/multipacks often competetively priced, nice taste.
Disadvantages: Differing strength on different pumps, therefore not always a nice pint.

I'll never forget the face of the woman behind the bar when my mate asked her for a pint of Russell Crowe. She didn't know if he was serious, drunk, mentally ill or otheriwise indisposed! All he wanted was a pint of Strongbow, but asked for it in some ridiculous rhyming slang that we'd invemted earlier that week. Strongbow, for me, will always be a summer drink. Sitting in the sun in one of the pubs down the Mumbles sipping an ice cold Bow is something ...
...It does seem to have developed a bit of a bad reputation, but Strongbow is one of the better ciders that is readily available on tap. A good pint of Bow has a nice crisp taste, is fairly dry but a little sweet, (not so sweet that its Woodpecker!) and slides coolly down the throat. Unfortunately, the majority of pints these days seem to be badly poured, and as aresult, many people that I know seem to have rejected the drink as being poor quality. ...

Advantages: No one will steal your drink
Disadvantages: ...No one will steal your drink

...the more premium Ciders like Bulmers and Magners, they have become fashionable drinks for some reason. With Kopparberg also on the up as a sweet lager, that again is slightly higher in price than perhaps people would be happy to part with for a single drink. So Strongbow, as a slightly cheaper drink, and ones that's been around for years, as a result becoming one of the drinks my parents and grandparents have been drinking for as long as I can remember. ...
...little logo with a crossbow man on it as the drinks mascot, it's a can that to the best of my knowledge hasn't changed in years. The drink, as all drinks I get in cans has to be poured into a glass for personal pleasure as drinking from cans is pretty much criminal, tainting the flavour (always making it taste metallic) and feeling too cold to drink inside the mouth anyway. The drink is a smooth amber colour, which did form a head that was soon to ...

Golden Archers

Advantages: Nicer than beer
Disadvantages: More expensive than beer

...with the aforementioned Diamond White, Bulmers Original for the 'mature drinker' (apparently) and Woodpecker, let's be honest, for the kids, they seem to have the UK cider market pretty much sewn up. And speaking as a cider drinker, I believe we're in safe hands. The brand name comes from the nickname given to Norman nobleman Richard de Clare, who was a bit of a whiz at the longbow, by his troops. (Presumably they actually called him - Googles frantically ...

Hmm...have they misjudged their target market, or should I be on Bulmers Original For The Mature Drinker instead? No! Strongbow is tasty. And I should stop wittering and get on with describing the particular nuances of its tastiness. ...

Cheap as chips! and healthy, in moderation!!

Advantages: cheap and tasty
Disadvantages: bad hangovers

...the same company who manufacture bulmers and magners, although the taste is quite different. I think Strongbow is more fizzier than the Magners, and the colour is more golden than orange, it also tastes sharper. The apples used for Strongbow are a different variety - it uses bitter sweet apples and sweetners to give a dry/fresh taste. I couldn't drink this on a night out for several hours as it does give quite a bad hangover... I do recommend it ...

What a Refreshing Change

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

I vowed that I would never drink cider again. As a youngster, and as many of you probably have done yourself, its all part and parcel of growing up that when you are out with your friends you have a bottle of cider, normally the cheap white cider along the lines of in my day, White Lightening, White Knight and Graphite, and if you had a bit morer extra pocket money than the rest, then you might even be able to afford Diamond White. The amount of ...
...to touch the stuff ever again. However, now as a grown up, cider is probably one of my favourite and most refreshing drinks that i choose, in particular Strongbow, which is always nice, after a hard days graft to come home to an ice cold pint to unwind with. Strongbow normally is the main brand of cider that public houses tend to stock and is one of the best selling cider's in the UK. Manufactured by Bulmers, who were founded in 1887, Strongbow ...

Strongbow a toxophilites delight

Advantages: Refreshingly refreshing
Disadvantages: A strange headache in the morning

Judging by the shelf space given over to Cider in most supermarkets, it is obvious that the Great British public is on the lookout for something other than Lager. Strongbow cider is not the best, in my humble opinion, but is definately in the top five. Made with bittersweet apples the taste is not as dry as some (K,Diamond White) but does not have that sickly sweet flavour of others (Woodpecker). Served chilled it is most refreshing and has a crisp ...

Strongbow - the answer for students

Advantages: Relatively Cheap, an alternative to lager
Disadvantages: Too sweet for some peoples' taste

It's my freshers week at university. I sit down in the kitchen with one of my new flat mates. After chatting for a few minutes we get bored and decide to be real students and go to the off-licence. I opt for the traditional 'lager'. Having not been drinking for that long I hadn't really drunk anything else. I ask my friend what he's buying. 'Strongbow' he says, 'it's great'. That night I had a can of strongbow and I haven't looked back since. The ...
...it is strong and cheap. At the end of the day, students want to (a) get drunk, and (b) get drunk for as little money as possible. A pint of strongbow is 5.3%, which equates to 3 units. So it is a lot stronger than lager which is on average 2 units per pint (4%ish). However, it is often the same price as other pints in the pub and off-licence. The taste of strongbow is refreshing and personally is my favourite taste out of all the ciders available ...

Strongbow: Easily the best cider I've ever had

Advantages: Very appley, smooth taste, effective
Disadvantages: Can be a bit expensive in relation to other ciders

After originally trying the godawful yet ridiculously cheap Woodpecker, it's foul, bitter taste put me off cider for a good few years. Now, trying Strongbow has reopened that world, as it is everything a cider should be - crisp, refreshing, smooth and above all, very appley. Even after trying Magner's, I was somewhat disappointed with its unfocused taste which really reinforced how important a good appley taste is, as it also shows high apple content. ...
...a perfect summer's afternoon drink, knocking the barely alcoholic Pimm's out of the way. With a barbecue as well as at parties and a multitude of other places, Strongbow is smooth and drinkable with a refreshing fruity taste not found in other ciders. Above all, it quickly and quietly gets you very, very hammered! ...

Not Just For Those Scally Kids On The Corner

Advantages: crisp, lovely flavour easy to drink
Disadvantages: tastes terrible warm

I had long held the idea that cider in all of its forms was the drink of choice for those scally 12 year olds who harras you outside of the corner shop into buying them 'ciggies'. That all changed on my first night at university last year however when i had my first pint of Strongbow the undisputed king of cider! I wandered into the bar with my new corridor mates and was left with the almost impossible task of choosing form just Carling and Strongbow ...
...the horrid Carling I opted for a drink i now consider my favourite.....Stronngbow. I discovered that cider is much easier to drink than lager and goes down really well it has a slight tangy taste which kicks in after every sip but overall the taste of apples (which it is made of) is what you mainly experience. The taste can differ as dry cider is drier and sweet cider is sweeter (obviously), i much prefer the sweet stuff as it has a much fruiter ...

If you like things sweet this is for you!

Advantages: Good value for money
Disadvantages: soooooo sweet

Hear the word cider and the first connotation that will appear in your head will probably be a picture of young teenagers sitting in a bus shelter, getting off their heads and spitting on elderly people; but Strongbow is different. To start you should know that it is 02:42am and I do not have the bottle to hand so I will base my review on my opinions and past experiences rather than a chunk of facts and figures. Strongbow has lately become my drink ...
...disappear from my memory every week. It is very resonably priced (around 3.50 for a two litre bottle if I remember correctly although that could have been the price from a recent sale of this beverage). One thing I can remember from every friday night is the careful way in which I have to unscrew the cap, anticipating the explosion that Strongbow seems to pull off more spectacularly than any other alcoholic drink (so watch out!). Then you must pout ...
