...ladies and gentlemen to Mistress Subaru Impreza STi Type UK - Prodrive.
Like the "experienced" woman, her looks are not to everyones liking, but there's just something bewitching about her, your just not sure. Somtimes she's a bit like the snake in The Jungle Book. From some angles she's stunning, and others are less flattering.
Taking things slowly everything seems to be OK, as you get to know one another. Relaxing in each others company, you ... ...cruise along making idle chit-chat, thinking all the rumours you've heard are untrue.
As the end of the night approaches, we start to see the first stretches of open road. She casual whispers in you ear - "Go on, you know you want to" Having abondoned all sensible thought process by this point, you suddenly become a bit firmer (with the throttle!).
She starts to make slightly louder noises in your ear. You are slightly excited at her prompt response, ...

Advantages: Unbelievable performance with room for the family Disadvantages: Noisy, uncomfortable, license loser
I've had two Subaru Imprezza Turbos now, a 2000 model (x-plate) and the newer-styled WRX from 2001 on a y-plate. Despite the newer model feeling slightly more tame than the old one and being a little easier to drive on a daily basis, one thing remained constant between both of them: you become a different person behind the wheel of this car.
Normal human beings, people who'll buy you a pint when they see you in the pub, stop to say hello to you ... ...and their luggage. The Subaru is a full-sized family saloon with an ample boot which can comfortably hold two sets of golf clubs. And even fully loaded, the thing can still move; with five full grown adults in the car it was still difficult to unnerve the car in the corners.
So here we have a car that is approaching Porsche or elderly Ferrari performance, that can fit your entire family, is Japanese (so is ultra-reliable) and costs just a smidgen ...

Advantages: stupidly quick, boosting (that sound), handling amazing, looks great, Disadvantages: on this model lack of ABS and Air con this is not standard though!
This was a 1996 Japanese import that spent its life as a Japanese street racing car. It was the race altered edition of the WRX STI. This meant it had no sunroof, no electrics in the front ie. windows and wing mirrors, no ABS and no air con. It did have a double din stereo and it did have a 5.5" straight through stainless steel exhaust. It was stupidly modified in the engine department and it did have creedy boost gauges. This car was brought from ... ...is a very rare car I have only ever seen 1 other like it. However, due to more imports coming into the country and the price for these beats being between 9-11k I thought I would write this review. This car kicked out 345bhp and went from 0-60mph in between 3.5 and 4 seconds. Don't believe me I have the evidence in the form of many scared friends who can testify. I had the car for a very short space of time. The garage who sold it to me tried to ...

SUBARU IMPREZA, say that to most teenage boys and they will drool longingly for they wish they could have one even near to them. I am lucky my father bought his about 2 years ago and we both have not tired of it yet. All i have to say to my friends is Impreza and they go and hide, crying for the day they can get one.
This however can be a down side as Impreza often goes before who is driving it, yes you can go quick, ludicrously quick if you want ... ...that. The boot is enormous we used to have a Range rover and the scoobies boot is bigger than that!Helpful as my dad is one of them sad old men who enjoy the most boring of persuits, fishing, as it swallows his kit (and thats no mean feat). However being a sad old man fishing all over the country who drives to all corners on business as well it would be handy if we had a refinery in our back garden as the car drinks like a fish.
For all those amateur ...

this is a great car for the price because it is fast reliable and spacious. this will be the best money ...

Advantages: Performance, handling, image and torque. Disadvantages: lack of interior comforts, styling (love or hate)
If speed is your thing then their are few choices that make sense on Britains roads. Sure there are alot of machines out there that absolutley fly when its sunny and dry but you could probably count on one hand the cars that can cope with average climate of pouring rain with brief periods of freezing ice and snow.
With permanent AWD and handling that could out turn a bobsled, the impreza is up at the top of that list. All the electronics that propel ... ...at speed all work to keep you out of those hedges and ditches.
On the motorway in 5th doing 70, plant your foot, wait a few seconds till you reach the boost and bang, your gone. Leaving most things 100 yards behind you with their ears ringing from the flat four boxer engine. Drop a gear and you'll cure that bad back with a lovely massage from a recaro seat pushing you to towards the lost licence zone.
Like most things, there are some sacrifices ...

I bought my Impreza Turbo almost 2 years ago, and I can say I've enjoyed every minute of driving it. I decided to test drive the Impreza after it won the Top Gear JD Power survey 2 years on the trot. I've always driven fast cars, but wanted reliability, high residuals, and good dealer customer service. And thats what I got!
I was going to order a brand new Impreza Turbo, but after I had my test drive I bought the second hand one I had just driven. ... ...to be delivered - I wanted it then! I opted for the 5 door, which is more subtle than the 4 door, but has exactly the same performance.
So, if your thinking of buying a new car and the Impreza Turbo is on your list, ask yourself one question: which car in that list has 5 doors, can comfortabley seat 5 adults (or has enough room with the seats down for 10 full dustbin bags), incredible reliability, fantastic dealer backup, awesome looks, wonderful ...

Advantages: Spacious and fast Disadvantages: EVERYONE has one.
I am a true petrol head and had to have a scooby. I bought a used 93 WRX Turbo. The problem is due to the grey import market they are EVERYWHERE. If you want a car that is a bit different DONT get an Impreza. If you have to have one:...............
The driving position is very comfortable making it very easy to control when putting the car through its paces. With 4 wheel drive you stick to the road, however if you are not used to 4wd it can be an ... ...drive as they are less twitchy) The excelleration is rapid giving a great deal of whoohoo factor. Unfortunately scooby's are admired by most young boys and you are constantly harrassed by souped up corsa's revving their nuts off thinking they can race you. The engine, being a flat 4 type sounds wierd, some people love it, I thought it sounded like a sewing machine. Fuel consumption was not as bad as I had expected but as my last 2 cars were 2.5 turbos ...

Arggghhh i know but do it.
The BHP is increased to 265ps (from 225)and torque goes up to a massive 348nm...ok figures but that means a 0-60mph of 4.8 seconds(official prodrive figures)Bye bye Porsche boxter turbos!

...special edition produced to celebrate Subaru winning the Rally Championship or something. Only 300 were ever made/are available so it was quite good to come across with low mileage and no boy racer abuse!!
Performance wise, it packs a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine with a free Prodrive Performance Pack (PPP) as standard. *By popular request, here is some more information for you!*
People ask me about the steering weave, and if it really makes it difficult to control the car. Well the answer is no, it doesnt make it unbearable, in fact once you get used to after 2 or 3 trips around town you shouldnt worry about it too much. However, if you are breaking hard be sure to have a tight grip around the ...

I have owned a 2003 WRX from new and really like it, and am so glad I chose it over the more obvious choices at the time. There are cars with nicer and more modern interiors, the styling is not to everybody's taste and running costs are high - but the reason you buy this car is for the performance. Huge amounts of grip, great acceleration and a fabulous exhaust note too. I have been toying with changing my car for something more luxurious or stylish, ... ...back with a smile on my face. Apart from one (albeit major) problem that was fixed uner warranty it has never missed a beat either. Not for everyone, admittedly, but a great car nonetheless. And when you are unable to use the performance (which, lets face it is 90% of the time nowdays) it drives round town as easily as any normal family saloon. ...

After wanted a wrx for many years I finaly brought one six months ago-I have not been disapointed.
A few things you should know/expect....

But their are a couple of minor things you need to know, running costs are expensive as it drinks more then an alcaholic this is due to the car being perminent 4WD, the body work is quite thin in order to make the car lighter so every little dent really shows and I have been pulled over twice now by the police as they like to do checks on imprezas as they ...

i owned a 1998 subaru impreza 2000 turbo (uk spec) for about 2 years. first thing to say is Its FAST!!!. i bought my car standard (1 owner, low miles, FSH) and enjoyed it but if you are a lover of cars then get your wallet out and modify. I ended up with a "scooby clinic" full system exhaust, a scorpion decat, a HKS blow off valve and induction kit and it sounded like a beast. not too sure how legal it was but it got through an MOT : ).
