I've had my WRX for nearly 2 years, and have made several modifications; some styling mods to change to the more eye-pleasing STI headlamps, grille, sideskirts and scoop, and an aftermarket exhaust, engine remap, air filter and strut brace. I'm still loving it.
Acceleration is nothing short of brutal. My friend who owns a bike and another with an RX8 were both amazed by the savage kick in the back it gives you when you put your foot to the floor., ... ...who think the car's all show, no go; the Impreza is all about acceleration rather than top end speed. Whilst the WRX came as standard with 215bhp in UK form, you can easily liberate between 270 and 280bhp simply by replacing the factory exhaust, air filter and having a remap - so for an extra, say £1200 you're looking at potential STI beating performance or keeping up with a lower end Evo but for far less outlay!

...second to none. A Subaru mechanic told me that nothing goes wrong with them. Clutches do tend to wear out, and can cost about £500 to replace with a decent nonSubaru clutch. 1st and 2nd gears can be stripped on older models if driven hard. The interior of the car is similar to 1970s Datsuns, however everything is adequate, and the seats are supportive and comfortable.
Ride and Handling, This is superb with pinpoint handling, immense grip, poise ... ...They are a very comfortable car to drive, very quiet and smooth, good for motorway cruising, as well as country lane bruising.
Running costs, Servicing is every 7500 miles, and can cost upto £300 for a 30000 mile service. Mine does 33mpg at a steady 70mph, but averages 23 mpg with mixed driving. Insurance can be quite reasonable, down to £400 if you are lucky. Mine is £600 per year. They hold their value fairly well. Tyres are about £500 to replace, ...

Wow! You haven’t lived until you have had a ride in one of these beasts! Take a look from the outside, and they look the most gorgeous of cars. The rear spoiler just finishes off the car nicely. Step inside, and the body hugging Recaro style seats look the part. This in itself is enough – but turn on the engine. There is one almighty, fierce grown, which is nothing compared to what is to come.

I have to admit to being a little surprised when I first got in one of these cars. From the outside, it is a super car – please invest in a rear spoiler, and a decent set of alloys. It makes the car look miles better (as I have said in other Imprezza reviews). For the money, it is a super car.
Usually, the smaller cars don’t really suit automatics. In fact, there are very few cars where I actually like the automatic transmission. It always tends ... ...put your foot down is often infuriating. However, in this car, the lag was hardly there. It really did loose hardly any of its power in the transition from manual to automatic. A super little car is you like automatics. Personally, I would stick with the manual version though – it’s far more fun! ...

This car everything that a lover of driving requires. Not for us the gentle cornering of a executive car. The Impreza makes every corner a joy to take. The AWD (all wheel drive) allows for road holding that only velcro tyres could make better.
The power of the Impreza is inspiring, you never feel that you have nothing left, this car delivers in all environments.

This has to be the definative salooon around. Apart from the huge air intake for the turbo on the front bonnet, no one would be able to guess that under the skin lies a ferocious monster. They look rather plain without any fancy body kits and llok like a standard car. That is apart from the WRC spoiler on the back that some of them have or the bonnet as mentioned before. If you have ever played Gran tourismo you will recognise this car as one of ... ...make an estate of this car that lloks like the sort of thing that grandad would take to the shops. Believe me, Grandad would need to be glued to the seat with some pretty strong glue because this is one mean car, built for driving and is truly a drivers car. It has all of the finesse of a saloon but the heart of fire breathing beast, built for the track. This is one of the most exciting cars I have driven on the road and would reccomend one to anyone ...

I nearly bought a brand new model of the above when they first came out. I opted for a manual 3 litre Laguna with loads of "toys" kidding myself the performance was similar (based on test driving the sport wagon WRX)
After 2 years, the urge did not go away and I bought one. Oh my god - the STi is a completely different beast.
The only critiscm really is the paper thin paint which chips so easily and the standard ride is awful on the motorway (it ... ...sort that and in addition to improving the already phenomenal handling lower the car by an inch and improve the looks.
Many users are very critical about the dealers. Actually when you look objectively, they are no worse in general to most car dealers - that is they couldn't really give a monkeys and are not as passionate about a £27K car as you are. There are however one or two excellent ones, luckily I have found one.

...heads were turned to my Subaru in preference to the black convertible BMW (lots of numbers etc) which had boarded at the same time.
I have changed the oil twice since purchasing, through choice, £50 a shot with filter and the cam belt which cost £250. My job requires lots of daily town driving and £45 usually lasts 2 weeks including fun weekend driving.
I'm rarely baited by boy racers but recently embarrased a Porche Boxster from a standing start, ...

...can be said about the Subaru Impreza that has not already been said! I have now had 4 of the 2.0Gl, and have all been amazing cars! The acceleration, handling, ride quality, build quality - its all superb.
My only complaint would be the lack of "extras" included on the standard 2.0GL. It is one of those cars which just cries out for a rear spoiler. Without a rear spoiler, I'm affraid it looks a little bland. Each Impreza I have, the first thing ... ...lifts the car. Just ask the dealer - they are also more than happy to help. A set of alloys is also worth investing in, or at the very least a fancy set of hub caps.
Inside, it is all you would expect for the money - better than most the same price. The key to the Impreza's success lies under the bonet, with that beast of an engine. The un-turbo 2.0 is amazingly nippy, and cracking fun to drive.
I recomend this car to everyone - but please consider ...

Having driven the Subaru (or "Scooby" to its fans), it's pretty difficult to go back into an ordinary car. The first impressions of it's abilities focus on it's devastating acceleration. While your appreciation of it's quickness never diminish, you come to realise that perhaps the best aspect of this car's performance is it's handling. This is never anything les than absolute grip. It will corner at astonishing speeds within breaking sweat. Cornering ... ...also a very forgiving car. Anybody will be able to drive it quickly and safely. It is is very easy car to drive in every way, including gear changes and being able to see out easily. On the road, it just sits on the road communicating all that is going on down below, but never does the ride become "crashy". The flat-four engine sounds like the real thing and goes on forever.
Downsides? Clearly the money has been spent on the engine and transmission, ...

I had one of these cars of which I bought second-hand for almost 3 years, and loved every moment of it! Unfortunately I had to sell it recently due to an unlucky engine fault, but hey was still a brilliant car!
The handling on these cars is faultless, the beauty unique. and theres nothing better than a car that not only looks and sounds fantastic, but also gives you the freedom to have some fun, whilst still having the ability to be a safe and reliable ... ...a family car I would go for the Legacy instead, but until then!)
Being a Japanese car you can always feel assured that the car is built well and will last even through the the very best torture.
They tend to be a little on the thirsty-side, and the insurance isn't exactly cheap, but if you can afford it, take all of the optional extras! especially the rear spoiler... I mean you can have a Scooby without a rear spoiler, I know someone who drives ...

this car is simply amazing. the looks the speed and the acceleration. when i drove this car it just wanted to do more and more for me which i didn't mind at all. People stare at you as you pass them at well over a hundred miles per hour down the motorway. The noise that this car makes is also one of the amazing things about it. It is so beefy at the bottom end and so high pitched when you are putting the revs to the max. What i think makes this scooby ...
