Advantages Advantages Great teaching, good student resources, amazing prospects, excellent social life

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, some facilities are very dated

What made me choose it? I selected the University of Surrey to do International Hospitality Management (at the School of Management). The Battersea Polytechnic Institute was granted university status in 1966 by Royal Charter. “Yuk” I hear you say! “Polytechnic?” Don’t let that fool you; Surrey doesn’t have the centuries-old track reputation of Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick and many many more but has a proven track record in excellent teaching and graduate opportunities. Personally-speaking, the School of Management in my entry year of 2003 was the best-performing in the UK, and to this day, all ... more

Advantages Advantages It is a buzzing and close knit campus, great social life and amenities

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of lectures and poorly looked after accommodation

I started at Surrey University last October (2009) to do a BSC in Psychology. The grades to get into Surrey have just become higher so I had to get two As and a B at A-Level to do Psychology when in other universities it can be much lower with 2 Bs and a C. From this I thought it must be an excellent place in which to take my degree especially if they are doing a placement year. I had been to the Open Days for Exeter, Nottingham, Cardiff, Bristol and Surrey. Surrey was the University that straight when I drove onto the campus I thought this is the one. It has the most beautiful grounds with a ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice location, pretty campus (in places)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Disorganised, inefficient Uni, hills, Stag Hill Court planning

I started at the University of Surrey in September 2005 on a Law course. Due to circumstances at the time, I was not able to visit the University on an Open Day. My first thoughts as I was driven through the campus on my first day was that it looked clean and pleasant - there's lots of trees on the one side, a lake and some nice arty sculptures on the side - not to mention the presence of ducks and swans! Very pretty. My accommodation of choice was Stag Hill Court - the cheapest. It's basically lots of houses of 10 - 6 single rooms and two 'duplex' rooms, one of which I was in. Basically, one ... more

Advantages Advantages great location, nice campus, great placement opportunities, good graduate employment rate

Disadvantages Disadvantages high cost of living

I am embarking on my final year at Surrey Uni on the undergraduate BA Hons in Dance and Culture course. CAMPUS This University has just one campus, in Guildford, situated next to Guildford Cathedral and approximately a 10 minute walk from the town centre, train and bus station. The campus itself is quite small in comparison to other Universities, which I believe is one of its many advantages, with so many things on hand: a bank, a small convenience shop, a launderette, a health surgery, various bars/cafes/restaurants at affordable prices, a gym, a large library (housing the National Resource ... more

Advantages Advantages High reputation, good location, good social life, friendly

Disadvantages Disadvantages can't think of any, except the general cost of living in the South East

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the University where I was a student in the 70s with a group of students who are taught by me. The university is situated within easy reach of London, yet the city of Guildford is just a short walk away. The University has a growing reputation - now appearing in the "Division One" of UK universities. It specialises in Science, Engineering and Technology but has other smaller departments such as Hotel and Catering Management, Languages and Music. It tops ALL UK universities in its Graduate Employment - less Surrey students find themselves unemployed 6 ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice location, close to town, has almost everything, campus uni, good place in the rankings.Has improved rankings and quality/reputation in a lot of subjects,-esp. sciences.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still hasn't got rid of the 'polytechnic' image, guilford locals being a bit 'snobby'

I didn't particularly enjoy my time there but looking objectively, I can honestly say that it is a decent university. COURSES: Everything is very organised, most of the degree courses are modular and it will be quite easy to follow the syllabus and get yourself ahead and organised if that is how you like to work. I studied Chemistry and over the last few years the facilities and the quality of the course had improved dramatically, it used to be one of the less well off departments, but now it is one of the best, although obviusly, still lagging behind Oxbridge and that of other traditional ... more

Advantages Advantages Near London, large student union.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Prices in the area.

First they change the in name to UniS after a logo competition, then they build part of a boat as the new European Institute of Health and Medicine Studies...and next they let the same architect build a train to go with it as the new on site accomadation block...not that that's going to well...to start with they had leaks and hot water where it should be cold, still it's the first privately owned accomadation so at least that isn't the uni's fault. Don't get me wrong I actually do like it here at Surrey Uni, it just seems that a lot of things are happening now that didn't when I first came ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Reputation, Many activities & opportunities

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Reasonably Expensive

As i write this review i am currently nearing the last two weeks of my first year at this university, UniS. I am studying Retail Management. I looked at many university's around the UK, but for me this one seemed the nicest. not just catering ofr all of my course needs, but the friendly atmosphere, great suroundings etc. My course is ranked Number one for its degree in the UK, and to top it off we have just been built a new £18.5million management school building which is excellent due to all my course programms being in one building, not spread over around the campus. Anyway, i am not going ... more

    Advantages Advantages Location, atmosphere

    Disadvantages Disadvantages High living costs

I am a first year management studies student at the University of Surrey and am having a fantastic time. The course is both interesting and challenging. I would reccommend it to any person who possesss a variety of skills and has clear ambitions about what they wish to do in terms of a career. Me aside, the University is a great place. Surrey is one of the best campus University's in the South East. The campus has everything a student needs including sport facilities, shops, launderette, Union building and of course food outlets of great variety open almost all the time. THe library and ... more

Advantages Advantages Close to London but still cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Everywhere you walk you are on a hill

Surrey University (or UNIS as it wants to be know these days) has basically something for everyone. Firstly, the beer is fairly cheap, the newly refurbished union is always welcoming and the increasingly lively town of Guildford is only a ten minute walk away. You are only five minutes walk away from the mainline train station which has fast services to London. But walk into the green parkland part of the campus and you find peace and quiet. There is also the two sports centres with cricket, rugby, hockey and football pitches and the music centre, with practice rooms and it's choirs and bands ... more
