Advantages Advantages Easy handling, comfortable ride. Very fun

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be intense

The Bandit has been about for some years, and there's a good reason for this. The bike does what it says on the tin, it rides and rides and rides. I've owned one for around a year now. I bought a 1998 Bandit 600SW, this was my first bike, passed my test a week and went out hunting. The bandit first started in the early nineties, which has led some people to say they are a bit long in the tooth. If this were true why would they after 15 years keep producing the 600cc and 1200cc bandits? The bandit competes with bikes like the Yamaha 600 Fazer and the Honda 600 Hornet. The three bikes all sit ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun, Economic, Reasonably priced

Disadvantages Disadvantages Wobbles over 100mph, Forks bottom out, Too high for people with short legs!!

Right then, before I start, I’ll make it clear that this is not my bike, although I do have a bike licence and I haven’t actually ridden it as my legs are too short! It is however my hubby’s bike and I have picked his brains etc. So combine this with the fact that I can actually ride (legally!) and hopefully my op should be pretty accurate! I will however write as though we both ride the bike etc (to make my life easier!) We had a Thundercat before this bike and the main reason for selling that was the sheer power and speed of the bike meant either loss of licence was ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap to buy and run

Disadvantages Disadvantages taller and heavier than some similar bikes

When I bought my Bandit I was looking for a bike that would be reasonably priced, cheap to run, easy to ride either solo or carrying a passenger and capable of covering reasonable distances. I can honestly say that in my opinion the 600 Bandit S lives up to all my expectations. I was mainly looking for the unfaired version, as I prefer the looks of the "naked" bike - a motorcycle should just be an engine, two wheels, a seat and a headlight! But when I first saw mine "in the flesh" I fell in love with it immediately - to the extent that I bought it without a test ride and paid the exact asking ... more

Advantages Advantages Smooth and energetic power delivery, starts even in the worst colds, comfort, neutral handling

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit tall for anyone under 5ft 8, rather weighty, age tends to be unkind

The Suzuki Bandit is the bike that started the middle weight revolution in the 90's; Where before, anyone wanting a sensible but fun commuter was stuck with an undesirably boring twin cylinder lump, Suzuki introduced a fun and extremely capable bike with a transverse 4 engine. Why has the bike become synonymous with biking? Context - So the readers are aware, this review is based on a very harshly used bike. I am so far the 9th owner of my 1999 GSF600SX (the early model; X merely meant a slightly uprated power plant and adjustable rear suspension) and it is clear that the 43,000 miles haven't ... more

Advantages Advantages Handling, engine, novice- and expert- friendly

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some dealers less than helpful

I bought my Suzuki Bandit 600S (i.e. with a fairing) when it was just over a year old. I was very impressed: for the price of a year old Honda CB500 (boring but reliable commuter) I picked up a 600 Bandit (drummingbunny's dream bike!). I can heartily recommend this bike to anyone except the hardcore power junkies. It pulls smoothly from just above tickover in any gear: it will comfortably cruise at 30 mph in top gear. The engine goes slightly off tune when it is nearing the end of a service interval but otherwise it has surprisingly clearly defined powerbands (it's like having two turbos ... more

Advantages Advantages Tons of fun, and great to tune

Disadvantages Disadvantages Eats tyres and brakes

I looked at a lot of bikes before choosing the Bandit 6. As a Motorbike Instructor I had a lot of criteria to fill - reliability, control, ease and cost of maintenance, and of course, the fun factor. The Bandit has all this in spades - the engine is bulletproof and responsive, there's plenty of feel in the ride, parts are easily available, and it's ideal for hooning about on the twisties on my days off. But what has surprised me the most about the B6 is it's response to tuning! The Yoshimura race can instantly made the bike more throttle responsive. The Ohlins progressive fork springs combined ... more

    5 Stars A Great Bike 25/01/2003
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Good looking, fast(ish), comfortable

Disadvantages Disadvantages No fairing, high tyre wear

I've had my Bandit 600N for 5 years now, bought it new for £3995. The Bandit is a great bike, I can't rate it highly enough. Physically it looks great and it's a good size for me as a 6 footer and that equates to easy riding and comfort about town and on back roads. Keep off the motorways though because without a fairing it is a tiring ride. Economy is about 50mpg and but tyre wear is high with rear BT45s only lasting 3500 miles and fronts about 7000 miles. Forget what some say about the engine being flat, there is enough torque for pottering around below 5000 rpm and a great rush over 9000 ... more

Advantages Advantages The original middle weight naked, good looks, comfort

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit of a porker, a dog when restricted to 33BHP

The bandit 600 unfaired was my first bike although my time with it was an extremely short. As I was 18 when I took my test I was restricted 33bhp so I had a restrictor fitted to the machine while I also invested in some crash mushrooms which against the black paintwork didn't appear too obvious. Such a lovely looking bike. I grew up on the back of my dads Kawasaki Zephyr 1100 so I always prefered unfaired bikes over faired. What a great moment pulling away from the dealership for the first time. Very comfortable and for a newbie U-turns etc were not to difficult although the bandit does weigh ... more

Advantages Advantages Good Response, Easy handling

    Disadvantages Disadvantages passenger riding style

I reciently bought a 2003 Bandit 600s. It is my second bike, but have been around bikes my entire life. My first being a cruiser lacked that sporty punch but was a good way to get used to riding on the road. Ok, Now for the reason you are reading this. The perks of the Bandit. It has a great response and powerful inline 4 motor. Since the exhaust, tranny, and motor(except for the carb) came from the GSX600F Katana, the 12k redline allows for three riding styles. You can cruise keeping low RPM's(after it is warm) running in the Power Band 4 to 8k is a nice sporty ride or if you want to add ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliable, maintenance free, comfy, easy to ride

Disadvantages Disadvantages have to work the engine & gears

O.K so it's an N I own and not an S, but it's the sme bike, but without the sporty bit on the front. mine has actually been modified, as in it has dual headlights (HIGHLY recommended), stainless steeel exhaust & pinnings and a scottoiler (again VERY recommended). I have found it extremely easy to ride, very energetic little bike. Comfortable if going the distance and yet still exciting enough for those little country road jaunts. You do have to work those gears, and keep the engine revs up though for anything resembling a quick getaway. I believe the 1200 engine is better than the 600 for that ... more
